Does anyone know what the deal is with "Factory Made"? It seems identical to "How It's Made". And there are some other shows that seem like the same idea too. (I get Science HD, which shows these about 50% of the time overnight.) Another interesting comparison is the various moving shows and the various "big things" shows. Usually whatever is a rebranded UK documentary is the best. Impossible Moves and Big, BIgger, Biggest are both great (and clearly have a bigger budget than the average docu.) smackfu fucked around with this message at 04:38 on Jan 24, 2010 |

I caught Motor City Motors tonight after swearing it off weeks ago, and come to find out my opinion of it hasn't changed. Case in point, tonight the brothers split into two teams to built some sort of motorcycle/boat hybrids. One that was basically an intact motorcycle with detachable pontoons that, somehow, worked perfectly on both terrains. The other one was motorcycle parts shoved into a boat shell. On land it moved at something like 10mph and once it hit the water, it instantly choked and sank.

God, how many episodes of Overhaulin' is Discovery going to burn through during the daytime before putting on something different? I swear their schedule for the last month has been Cash Cab in the morning, followed by six hours of Overhaulin', followed by Cash Cab reruns in the afternoon.

I'd actually be willing to bet his blood being 80% Red Bull is probably more of a factor than one would think. e: you also make it sound like things are beyond repair with the coma. They operated on him and put him into a coma to reduce the swelling around his brain post-op. The idea is the barbiturates they use to induce the coma slow down the blood flow and metabolism of the brain meaning the blood vessels narrow which lessens the pressure which then prevents swelling. Once he gets a little better they'll bring him out of it. All reports are that his surgery went well and he's doing OK(as good as can be expected right now). Don't get spooked by the coma stuff. His fishing days are pretty much done, though, unless he feels like dying. If he had the stroke out at sea and not when they were offloading, he'd likely have been dead on arrival. So does this mean Murray will be back as temp skipper, or will one of his sons actually start captaining more frequently?

I thought Murray retired last season, but if the Wizard brought Lenny back for one more I don't see why Murray wouldn't volunteer in a time of crisis.

I'm not quite sure how Deadliest Catch will be without Captain Phil. He and his sons had an interesting relationship play out on the show and not having Dear Ole dad in there is kind of . Here's to a speedy recovery for Phil and hopefully he'll retire to his home and not put his health at risk anymore. Oh, and not drink/smoke/etc anymore either.

FlamingLiberal posted:Does anyone know anything about when Mythbusters is coming back with new episodes? Mythbusters keeps an extremely odd season schedule, airing basically all year with a month or two break every so often (usually around February and again in July). Last year they didn't air anything from January until April. I'd expect to see it back in a month or two, since I think Discovery just aired the last episode they had "in the can" a few weeks ago.

Howe and Howe Tech would be an interesting show if these two brothers didn't act like children (or, if the producers didn't decide to show them acting like children). The stuff they build looks to be genuinely cool stuff. It's just a complete turn-off to see the infighting and mistakes. If I had a contract with these guys, I might be having second thoughts after watching that show.

There's so much screaming and hi-fives and hamming it up at every explosion that it was nice to see something genuine. (Might have been the bus jump remote control)

They could seriously use a full time designer - or at least someone who could dedicate more time to it than the one brother can. We actually have the same problem where I work - we do so much engineering on the fly that when it comes time to duplicate anything we've built, we're trying to remember exactly how we built it in the first place. On another note, did Motor City Motors get canceled? It didn't record this week because it wasn't in the guide anymore according to my Tivo, although next week's episode still is. I'm sort of surprised they'd cancel it since there were apparently 13 episodes filmed. Seems like they'd at least run them out if they were already done, so the ratings must have been horrible.
