The Remote Viewer posted:I hate whoever suggested Monster is about date rape. That's all I can hear now, and it's turned a fun song about a bad boy into something much darker. I've been thinking about it too...but the date rape thing just doesn't seem to jive with some of the lyrics. Specifically the spoken intro (Don't call me Gaga...) and the subway train encounter (French kissed on a subway train...). Were it not for those to parts I would be down with the date rape interpretation. The spoken intro seems to really kind of throw out the idea that the subject was drugged. Incidentally I think it's kind of cool that Poker Face also has the low voiced "Muh-muh-muh-muh" in it as well. I was actually hoping it was thematic somehow but since Poker Face was released before Monster it just seems a bit coincidental. Monster posted:Don’t call me GaGa

I would have bought it when it came out but an uncensored version of the album just became available in the US like a week ago, and only on iTunes at that (and one song is still censored).

The Remote Viewer posted:'Teeth' apparently still has the word 'bitch' censored in it. I have the iTunes censored version, and I also get "bit" instead of "bitch"--but the song also clearly opens with, "Don't want your money (want your money) (that poo poo's ugly)." I don't understand how this works

I have a handful of friends that like Lady Gaga because she doesn't sound like an idiot in interviews and she has this whole philosophical self-aware glam-rock modonna-esque thing. She calls her music "soulless electronic pop." http://www.newsweek.com/id/223509 I'm not really sold. Is lovely music still lovely music if its really a thought-out winking critique of modern pop culture? I think yes.

Edit: More importantly, I don't think that "a thought-out winking critique of modern pop culture" accurately describes it. Nova Bizzare fucked around with this message at 07:34 on Feb 8, 2010 |

The Remote Viewer posted:I hate whoever suggested Monster is about date rape. That's all I can hear now, and it's turned a fun song about a bad boy into something much darker. Monster is yet another parable for Gaga's entry into the world of pop music. I've noticed that in her songs, perceived references to men are usually metephors. Like if you heard Bad Romance on the radio you'd think "oh yeah, she's singin to some dude" but listening to it in context with the rest of her work you realize it's a love/hate letter to the recording industry. Monster is no different. The "Monster" in the song is Fame, personified as an alluring dude. It's kind of date-rapey, but it's more about the equal parts danger and allure of absolute stardom, which is basically what the whole album is about, hence "Fame Monster". Another interesting thing to consider is she endearingly refers to her fans as "little monsters", so maybe it's less about the allure of fame and more the intoxication of having thousands of people be in love with you. also this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18VqtBifjPo

I felt extremely disturbed after reading just a few of the threads over there, I can't even begin to imagine what it's like being the subject of some of these insane posts. For example: Insane Lady Gaga Fan posted:Hey Gaga my love, Now I've developed some kind of strange Lady Gaga addiction, but drat I can't even imagine being in the frame of mind that a lot of these people seem to be in. It sounds like she's their sole reason for living and getting up every day and it's kind of frightening, frankly.

Acts like Lady Gaga tend to inspire strange amounts of devotion. It doesn't really seem to matter what the music is actually like, it seems to be based around larger than life personas.

For some reason it makes me think of Fever Ray, or The Knife- and The Knife have a new project in the works, though I'm not sure if that'd make for better evidence for or against. Looks really loving cool, though, whoever it is.

Another "unreleased" Lady Gaga track, Filthy Pop, has been posted on FameMonsterTV's YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrdC3qxn4vw She sounds so much like Gwen Stefani in this track, and parts of it are strikingly similar to Summer Boy. Also found these: No Way Second Time Around Fashion (There seems to be some big to-do between Gaga fans and Heidi fans about exactly whose song this is...) Mr. Flunchy posted:Alexander McQueen is dead He reportedly committed suicide.

Gaga recorded it first. When I saw her in Boston, it was one of only 5 shows I think where she played that song. edit: Also Gaga gave her song Fever to Adam Lambert even though she recorded it first and fun fact: Telephone was originally written by Gaga and she gave it to Britney Spears to use on Circus, but she didn't have room on the album. I know too much about a pop superstar.

I wonder if Britney recorded a version of "Telephone" or if it the decision not to include was made first? I would love to hear a Britney version just to see if the song stood on its own or if it is indeed magical Gaga power that makes it fun. I also wonder if it was written with Britney in mind because it really seems to suit her stylistically (I didn't like this song the first time I heard the intro because of it's pouty Britney vibe, the rest of the song won me over though).
