I thought Varg had hung up his mace, like Ghaal. I read an interview where he said he had decided since leaving prison to live a quiet life on a Norwegian farm with his French lady and kid. Interesting to see he is back in the game.

Really good atmospheric black metal from a friend of mine and a fellow goon who would like to remain anonymous: Petrychor - http://www.myspace.com/petrychor You can download higher quality formats here: http://petrychor.bandcamp.com/ It has the intensity and fullness of sound similar to things like Walknut, Enmerkar, and Drudkh, but retains a strong sense of clarity as well.

^I'm really digging this. Thanks. I'm really picky about black metal. I don't like a ton of it, but the stuff that I do like, I tend to just love, and the stuff that I love tends to be stuff like this that is atmospheric but still fairly brutal and not glacially slow.

I immediately knew what I was going to get and I immediately fell in love with it in the first 3 seconds of that part. Very very good! I really hope it keeps up the intensity throughout the whole album. edit: The second song just kicked in and it's just as good. I'm really getting a "Summoning" vibe from it with how the drums are. Who else is loving excited about Finntroll's new album Nifelvind coming out Feb 22nd in EU/March 9th in US? If you haven't checked it out already, two of the songs are on their myspace page (Solsagan and Under Bergets Rot). I also plan on seeing them live with Moonsorrow and Swallow the Sun on the Finnish Metal USA tour

Varg Vikernes posted:Well, "mulatto" is more like it. He isn't "black". Anyway, I don't feel anything. The president in the USA is and has always been just a puppet for the true masters of the USA. Whether this puppet is white or black, yellow or brown, Democrat or Republican, or whatever, doesn't matter. The true rulers of the USA are the individuals working in the background, oh and by the way; they certainly all have the same ethnicity...

The tone is amazing and I really enjoy the playing style (andy mckee was exacting what I was thinking, only without all the slaps/finger style). The 3rd track was a bit too noodly for me, but it still is a good track. The production of the EP is kinda weird, in that everything maxed all the gently caress out except the drums and vocals, but I kinda dig it because it's like you're getting a giant dinner platter all at once and you start to realize all the ingredients that went into it and it all comes out perfect. edit: your friend definitely should own up and let us pester him into putting out more stuff.

I dont mind the Ov Hell debut now that I just listened. Im hearing it along the lines of Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam. EDIT: Really feeling 'Post Modern Sadist', but I dont feel the 'Between Two Worlds' connection, the guitars on Ov Hell's Debut are absolutely not as sophisticated as Abbath's. It's a mix of I's Between Two Worlds and Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam for obvious reasons but I don't think I'm going to like this one as much as I do those albums. I'm not in the "ew it's that guy from that commercial band" camp, but I just don't like Thoresen's vocals. I don't find his voice appealing and he doesn't do anything with it that catches my interest.
