Finished up the rematch against Wiltershaw earlier, it was another good game, in the early stages it was in my favour but my troops soon got bogged down into defensive positions and surrounded, and thusly slaughtered.

My list this time was more of a long ranged, heavy infantry affair. And I will admit after looking over things again I actually had 1 more Moblot on the field than I should have...I can't read numbers apparently :eng99:

My list consisted of:
1x Tank Hunter Lieutenant
1x Tank Hunter Autocannon
2x Kazak Veterans
3x Moblots (should of been 2)
1x Foxtrot Ranger Boarding Shotgun

I need to take some pics for our next battle to give a much better report but I'll try and abstract it with words a bit.

The first few turns consisted of us both advancing and doing lots of movement, my foxtrot ranger placed a mine at the top of the map in an effort to deny the enemy a chance to flank from that direction. The first blood was to the Foxtrot Ranger with a suicidal charge from cover, he fired his shotgun in a tightly packed group of 4 enemy Fussiliers. Killing 2 out right and heavily wounding the other 2. I got lucky and both the dead were the doctors for the group, and one was even the lieutenant. My Autocannon set up suppressive fire, targeting an alley in which stood the only other enemy doctor, his new lieutenant and another trooper.

The next turn saw the deployment of Wiltershaws Drop troops, but some bad rolling sent them wildly off target. In the end it turned out well for him as one landed on a roof behind my forces which put me on the defensive since they were wielding chain rifles and I'd seen what they could do in our previous conflict! I also lost a Veteran to some Heavy machine gun fire, he had been left guarding my flank so this meant I had to do some serious shuffling to cover everything.

To sum up, my Autogunner proceeded to spend the next 3 or 4 turns suppressing the alley way, keeping the 3 enemies within pinned down. Mean while everyone else was picked off one by one by Wiltershaws fast moving, outflanking HMG. The Autogunner finally had the good sense to die after being hit by a HMG for the 4th time in one turn (a mix of lots of modifiers and some decent armour kept him going...so luck mostly). I called it quits after that since all that remained was my Lieutenant and a Moblot (probably the extra one ).

It was a good game, and I really enjoyed playing a small but tough force. My opening gambit put it in my favour but some paranoia caused me to go on the defensive losing me the game...I needed to stay offensive since where I got paralysed was a cross roads so there were too many angles to cover. I am unsure if pinning those 3 units with my auto cannon was a good move, might have been better to run the risk of missing for the chance of killing them with a reaction shot. Still it was well played and well recovered by Wiltershaw...looking for to the re-re-match :haw:

Should be 12-3 PM. I work at 4:30, so looking to give myself a buffer window. And I'm only doing GMT since it's fairly universal.

Well, the only reason I'm guaranteeing myself Sunday is my birthday. Don't begrudge the dating and married goons their day. I just choose to not observe the holiday.

Can one of you guys who play monpoc a lot give me a rundown of the factions and how they play?

I'm gonna be lazy on you, PV, and steal some stuff out of the rulebooks. First of all, you need to know that there are Agendas and their are Factions. Things are typically compatible cross faction within the same Agenda. So to start, the six agendas:

Protectors are the good guys. They
try to defend a way of life even if it means
demolishing a few buildings in the process.

Radicals are only interested in an
ideal, and civilization takes a back seat
when it comes to advancing their goals.

Fiends are pure evil, through and
through. They destroy because they
enjoy inflicting pain and suffering.

Destro yers are motivated by wanton
destruction. It’s nothing personal—just
don’t get in their way.

Invaders want what Earth has to
offer, and they’ll stop at nothing to get it.

Collaborators have their own
objectives. Sometimes they work for
the good of humanity, but other times
humanity is just a stepping-stone.

Then, you have factions, six from Rise, and six from Now.

Among the Rise factions, I'm familiar with GUARD, the giant robots and protectors of the set. They've got some good all around units that work REALLY well together for combined attacks, and their monsters for the most part help the units as much as take care of things on their own.

The Collaborators from Rise are the Shadowsun Syndicate, a triad like organization that also produces giant ninjas. They're the 'fast' faction, capable of making huge advances, have some solid stealth abilities, and can really do some damage when their various tools are brought to bear correctly.

The fiends are the lord of Cthul, and let me tell you, they can be a pain in the rear end. Between models than can be crushed to heal your monster, and abilities on your monsters that let you heal yourself, you're gonna play an attrition game, setting up situations in your favor.

The invaders are the Martian Menace, and their monsters really play like a big unit, for the most part. By working in groups, they do a lot of collateral damage, as they definitely don't benefit leaving buildings standing for their opponent to control.

I unfortunately have never played with the Terrasaurs or Planet Eaters to give a solid explanation of their play style, but the Terrasaurs are written as the all go no quit faction, and I've heard the Planet Eaters described as supermen lists that put all their faith in a monster, and the units are intended to distract and harry.

Hopefully someone else can explain the new factions better than I could. Though looking at the new Savage Swarm, they seem to be a cross between the Shadowsun with their speed and the Monsters are definitely the meat and potatoes.

Let's do the space-time warp again!

I like the look of the escorts, most of them are different enough while keeping the fleets concept in mind. I still need to get some Aquans, but they were having all those casting issues and I am broke, so it hasn't happened yet. Possibly after we get the move done.

Nah, the local Shadowsun player was Raiden.

But I've looked at Mega Maxim, he's a drat sweet model, and if I turned from Guard, I'd definitely look to pick him up.

RE FSA: The Sorylian escort looks like a spark plug. I'm not sure if that's cool or retarded.

The ironclads are Shroud Mages, the glowy green ones are Bone Griffons, and the catamaran-esque one is a Thaniras Elves ship.

Zor Raiden is fun, but Mega Maxim is a BASTARD. Getting blasted for 4-6 damage with no power dice can be really nasty.

Depends on 'later'. I work at 4:30, but I'd love to try out some Mega Mantacon with swarm.

I was actually trying it the other day during a teaching game, and screwed up and set up my units wrong on turn one. So much flying. No Ground Control. God, I'm a spoiled GUARD player.

Void is, as I understand it, first edition Urban War only with some godawful models. Urban War takes the basic ruleset and makes it better in every way.
