I'm sure this is a pretty popular request for recommendations, but any ideas of bands similar to Deelay Ceelay, Ratatat, or Ronald Jenkees? Any sort of that Instrumental synthie goodness!

The new trailer for Tron: Legacy recently came out, and a fair amount of discussion has centered on the incredible music in the trailer. Specifically: a lot of us are getting hardons regarding the glitching sounds at the end of it. A genre came up: Glitch Music Anyone know of a decent starting point?

I like old school DNTEL a lot (the guy who made the music for Postal Service), I'm not sure if that would be considered glitch or not. A lot of it sure sounds like it. Newer DNTEL is this gay kind of acoustic-electro poo poo though.

I know this is a long shot, but I've been wanting to get in Bhangra music, which is basically Punjabi pop music. Its so upbeat sounding and danceable. Being a dumb white girl, I don't know where to start. I have an Indian friend I've asked, but he's been no help as he likes rap. Any suggestions?

I love M83. I find myself chilling with them and listening to Lower Your Eyelids to Die With the Sun to fall to sleep at night. I find most of their music relaxing. What other groups would I like?

What other groups would I like? M83 has come up a few times in here, and though they are an electronic act they borrow a lot from the shoegaze genre, especially the more dreamy/floaty shoegaze like Slowdive (as opposed to noisier stuff like MBV, Ride etc.). Also, look into post-rock ish stuff if you haven't already (sigur ros, explosions in the sky, mogwai).

I'm in need of some black metal. I've just finished properly listening to Immortal's Sons of Northern Darkness for the first time and I loved it. I don't really care for camped up black metal of Dimmu Borgir or Cradle of Filth but Immortal's slow icy passages, synth breakdowns and washed out guitars are all good.

Sons of Northern Darkness is great but is really clear and crisp for a black metal album. A couple that have a similar sound are Immortal's All Shall Fall (2009)(obviously), Gorgoroth's Quantos Possunt Ad Satanitatem Trahunt (2009), and Dissection's Reinkaos (2006)(which isn't technically black metal but has a similar production). You can try working backward chronologically on those bands and see if you like that. Also, here's three general black metal recommendations. Mayhem: De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (1994) Dimmu Borgir: Stormblast (1996)(this is before they suck, even if it seems gay at first stick with it because it is awesome) (p.s. do not listen to the 2005 remake) Emperor: In the Nightside Eclipse (1994) If you like that stuff come to the black metal thread http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2685887 and ask for more! (sorry about the parentheses)

I'm looking for some sunny folk-ish stuff that brings forth images of adolescence in a dusty southern/Texan smalltown in spring/summer, sitting by the pond at sunset, not worrying about a thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KCg_QEHtkY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EawSJUF6Lng https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45Io4sla61E Something like these songs, maybe a bit more slow and down tempo.

Im after some more Scandinavian/European electro or something to that effect. Examples being The Knife, Royksopp, Zeigiest \/\/ Have a quick look at the song Haze by a abdn called Ephrat. Unfortunatley none of the other songs they have have a female vocalist. Its pretty proggy tho. A LOVELY LAD fucked around with this message at 20:45 on Mar 17, 2010 |

I would love to find some female fronted music with really progressive tones. The best way I can explain it is like Tool but with female vocals. I've been recommended to Epica, Within Temptation and the bands like that but I can't seem to find anything like I'm describing. If I can help narrow it down, please let me know. My last.fm profile may help. Ignore the ton of J-Pop. I've been on a kick lately. You might want to also ignore the number of plays per band. I'm adding bands I listen to even if its just radio singles and such. edit: Ayreon is cool but not what I'm looking for VVVV Rush is awesome but Geddy Lee is not what I like to imagine as a hot chick Irritated Goat fucked around with this message at 15:04 on Mar 19, 2010 |

^ The lead singer of Rush kinda sounds like a womanA LOVELY LAD posted:Im after some more Scandinavian/European electro or something to that effect. Examples being The Knife, Royksopp, Zeigiest umm... Erlend Oye and Trentemoller are probably the most like those artists, but all over the genre map here's some more: Jaga Jazzist, Apoptygma Berzerk, Eric Prydz & The Swedish House Mafia (Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso & Axwell) Basshunter, The Field, Texas Faggott, mum and Bjork. If Dutch, German or Belgian are close enough also try Ulrich Schnauss, Isolee, Legowelt, Kraftwerk, DJ Hell, Alter Ego, Apparat, Modeselektor, Ian Pooley, Don Diablo, Laidback Luke, Soulwax, Ferry Corsten and Sander Van Doorn. If you like those last two there's a ton of loving trance that comes out of Scandinavia tho I'm not too versed in it myself, also a lot of that on the mainland but more tending towards minimal techno and progressive house. If you like those two genres I can give you a laundry list cause probably the majority of good artists that make them are from northern europe, PM me if you want more kundalini rinsing fucked around with this message at 22:23 on Mar 17, 2010 |

I recently heard (or actually, I'm listening to it now) the collaboration between Burial and Four Tet, namely the track Moth. It's absolutely amazing, like hearing a party next door through the walls. What's the genre called, and can anyone recommend some more? I've heard both Burial and Four Tet solo albums, and while they're great in their own way, it's nothing like the collaboration.

I'd call it minimal / progressive house even though you're right, neither of Burial nor Four Tet's solo works sounds anything like it. Check out Nathan Fake, The Field, Jesse Somfay, Marc Romboy & Stephan Bodzin, and Kollektiv Turmstrasse.

I think I've asked this before but I don't think anyone had any recs, so trying again as it's been a while and maybe new people are reading -- I'm looking for more stuff like Chicane. I've heard stuff like Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, DJ Shah, Sunlounger, BT, Tiesto, so on so forth. None have really scratched that itch. I'm not sure exactly what defines the sound I want -- BT is a little more aggressive than I'm looking for, Sunlounger is a little too chilled, Armin van Buuren and Tiesto are a little too boring. Pretty sure I want vocals for most of it, and relaxed music but still something with a decent beat. Anyone?

I've been really enjoying listening to Fats Waller's "Ain't Misbehavin'" album recently, I want more stride piano like it. I don't really like jazz type stuff when it gets all noodley and wanky, and I like there being a whole band rather than just piano or what have you. I tried listening to some Scott Joplin but it turned out to be just piano and it was kind of boring. tl;dr, more stuff like Fats Waller Paperhouse fucked around with this message at 17:55 on Mar 20, 2010 |

Yeah, Chicane is pretty drat amazing if you ask me, but I think he's also fairly unique. Kind of chilled out but still danceable? I'm sure you've already heard of him, but you can try some of deadmau5's stuff (and on that note, Kaskade). Some people loathe him and I guess I can see why but gently caress it, I still think he's awesome. Even if they don't exactly fit the bill, there's also Adam K & Soha and Dinka (really the whole Anjunabeats label is worth checking out). You might like them.
