If you saw more than 4 distinctly different wrestling moves in a main event in the late 90's it was because Triple H was in the main event.

It's why he was my favorite at the time. The dude could actually loving wrestle. Rock and Austin were entertaining when they cut promos but apart from that what were they good for? Punching and hitting their signature moves.

Exactly, which is why I said he hasn't done anything interesting since 2000. I remember thinking he was great in 98, 99, and 2000. But after that, he was so boring I stopped watching wrestling until 2006-7-ish.

Not really. the 1 partner being superior thing was most prevalent in the rockers. The 2nd closest we got was the hart foundation because bret would get his poo poo kicked in half the match against major teams (demolition, the legion of doom, the powers of pain to name a few examples)

How did the Hart Foundation split up anyways? I just recall them doing singles matches without much of an angle behind it, and then Anvil became part of the "New Foundation." IIRC Anvil didn't actually turn heel until like three years later; it was like the most delayed tag-team "breakup" of all time.

The Rock 'N Roll Express had Ricky Morton, the most famous example of babyface-in-peril, and his googly-eyed buddy Robert waiting for the hot tag. It was pretty much accepted that Morton was the better wrestler, hence his program with Flair.

Something I've always wondered about pro wrestling, was if whether or not there was any semblance of concern over AIDS and other blood borne pathogens like Hepatitis and what have you. I would like to presume that the WWE's welness policy incorporates the testing for these sort of infections, given the nature of the work these folks are doing. Given that in (heterosexual, at least) pornography, they're always frequently testing talent, so I'm wondering how this issue is approached or handled, if at all, in pro wrestling since they're exposed to similar risks.

I know that I for sure, would definately be hesitant about working with someone who was planning to blade and bleed all over me for twenty minutes+. I can never seem to get an answer on this issue, does anyone know anything about this sort of thing?

There was a scary incident that took place before the Wellness Policy was enacted...

quote:

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Cowboy Bob Orton had hepatitis as a teenager and had actually forgotten he had it because it was 35 years ago. Apparently he was just sick for a couple weeks then never thought about it again. Randy also had no idea.

Bob was recently tested by a WWE doctor who is friends with The Undertaker and was alarmed when he was bleeding all over him in the Hell In A Cell. Bob then got another test was was told he was fine, which is what he initially thought as he has had tons of blood baths, always drank, and never made anyone else sick before. He is blaming the doctor for alarming everyone about it when there was really nothing to worry about.

Taker was alerted and was furious at Johnny “Ace” Laurinaitis, who knew the results of the test and didn’t tell Taker. Johnny Ace had to go to a house show and personally talk things out with a very unhappy Undertaker.

Well its nice to know that the WWE wellness program is inclusive of those worries, but I was sort of wondering what the general view was in pro wrestling as a whole. Its hard to imagine that its something even the indy guys don't think about. I'm sure they don't give a gently caress in Japan, because well, Japan just doesn't give a gently caress.

Haha yeah, I had heard of the Undertaker story. He was absolutely livid when he found out, as, of course, one would be.

Well, there was the Brisco's. Jack trained Jerry and would win World Championships and such before going back to tag with his retarded, less talented brother. Everyone knew Jerry was the weak link, but he wasn't a Janetty.

There was really no popular term for it, but there were other examples. Rock and Roll Express was mentioned.

I mean, in some circles, to the point that WWE acknowledged it in the Miz/Morrison feud, Marty Jannetty has become a byword for the member of a tag team who, after a split, goes nowhere and is nothing but deadweight compared to their partner, HBK in this case.

Your memory was right, there was no angle behind it. They wrestled the Nasty Boys at WM7 and after that Bret just started doing singles matches on the syndicated shows with no explanation of what happened to the team.

To be fair I have never seen stand-up punch tradeoffs like the Rock and Austin used to do on each other.

Anyway, a person saying Triple H bores them is fine. When it becomes a matter of Triple H being objectively evil is when the obvious smark bullshit starts. There's only a tiny minority of people who think like that here, if any, but most forums are sick with them.

Shawn Michaels has said on the record that he's comfortable enough with Triple H in the ring that no matter what happens, he knows Triple H will just carry the match with no problems if he has to. Ric Flair loves Triple H, for many reasons, not the least of which is that he respects the business and those who came before him, something that very few wrestlers seem to do these days. From evidence it would seem that he'll at least try to wrestle through any pain. He eats and breathes wrestling, it's all he really cares about, and he's continued to do it non-stop well into the age that other wrestlers start to take it easy on themselves. He's popular, scary-looking, and people seem to overlook that he's a pretty good talker. These are the reasons why he has been trusted to be the go-to main event guy for ten years.

We don't need your money!
HHH cares about the sport probably more than any other wrestler on the roster right now. He goes for the title when it is needed and stays away from it when hes not needed. He tries to put a lot of talent over when it seems they are serious. Hes worked with a lot of the guest hosts to try and make them as exciting as possible if they are in front of the crowd.

If you dislike HHH theres nothing wrong with that. If you hate HHH youre just frothing at the mouth.

I think a lot of people just never accepted the fact that the HHH of 2010 is different from the HHH of 2004 who loved 35 minute promos, long title reigns, and squashing the entire roster.

Same with the people who still hate Cena because of how annoying his 2005-2007 run was

The answer is wrestlers are often stupid people who make unsafe personal decisions. It's one thing to blade in WWE where you have some medical testing, but blading in the indies is far more dangerous. The general response I've read from 80s guys is "We didn't think about it." Some athletic commissions have wrestling licenses and require different medical testing but they're pretty much bullshit.

That isn't what Jannetty means, that's called playing Ricky Morton. The Jannetty is the member of a tag team with two talented guys who is completely eclipsed in talent after the break-up. They're generally talented but never reach their potential.
