Successfully predicted nine of the last five recessions

quote:

"I'm 63 and Im Tired"

by Robert A. Hall

I'm 63. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes." Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.

I'm tired of being told how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood Entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the economy of Zimbabwe , the freedom of the press of China , the crime and violence of Mexico , the tolerance for Christian people of Iran , and the freedom of speech of Venezuela .

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that "race doesn't matter" in the post-racial world of Obama, when it's all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of U.S. Senators from Illinois.

I think it's very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government.

I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful; that thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America , while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I drat sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I'm tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I'm tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers," especially the ones who aren't working, but are living on welfare or crime. What's next? Calling drug dealers, "Undocumented Pharmacists"? And, no, I'm not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic, and it's been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I'm willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak English, doesn't have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military.... Those are the citizens we need.

I'm tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are? Not even close. So here's the deal. I'll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims, who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we'll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I'm tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan. And I'm tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship. I live in Illinois , where the "Illinois Combine" of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years. Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama's cabinet.

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I'm tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn't have that in 1970, but we didn't know we were "poor." The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I'm real tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I'm drat tired. But I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter.

A semester of college and this guy has two houses? gently caress him.

I have a Master's and I'll be living in a basement apartment for the rest of my life. I'm 24 and I'm tired, rear end in a top hat.

Maybe if the boomers didn't gently caress the whole world up, economically, environmentally and culturally, half those problems wouldn't exist.

You're tired and America has all these problems. Wow, what a shame you never had a chance in your five terms in the state senate to do anything about it. Abloo abloo abloo.

Sorry, but if I get one more boomer telling me what wrong with our society I will flip.

Okay, maybe. I read it as "I wasn't working so I went to college" like a lot of people are doing now.

It's just that most people his age got everything that I and most of my peers will never have with absolutely no education. Niether of my parents graduated high school and I will never have what they have. This is mostly the case with people their age.

That would sort of make sense for a self-proclaimed 63 year old. Instead he said:

quote:

I think it's very cool that

Which no 63 year old says outside of a comedy movie trailer right before they say they gotta go keeps it real in the hood and we get a record scratch and awkward silence

*cool peer pokes Robert A. Hall with his cane*

For every person old enough to have served in Vietnam I've ever talked to, freak is like, far-out, groovy man, not an insult a dope-smoker would use on someone (it'd be more like something they'd take pride in.) Its obviously a 20-something Republican making up a story (shocking I am shocked) to advance their own views, who isn't clever enough to alter their language/grammar to be appropriate for a person of that age... because literally no 63 year old person in history has ever given a gently caress what "cool people" think about them having never tried marijuana

Are you aware that words may have multiple meanings, or meanings that change in tone over time? And the difference between saying someone would not use a word based on what that would mean in the time & place they came from, versus claiming someone would never use a word altogether? You either failed to read my statement properly, or you have an extremely limited knowledge of the way language works.

Nah, it's a verbatim recitation of a stupid post on a guy's blog about an earlier version of the bill that no longer exists. I went through and debunked half of these myself six months ago.

Dear Editorial Staff:
I know you won’t publish this since it does not fit your agenda, but at least one of you will read through it and know what the American people, including you, are about to have happen TO them.

It's funny because I remember seeing an op-ed piece in The Columbus Dispatch that was this article albeit in an edited and written in a regular form, though the author claimed that his "lawyer friend" or some such had gone through the bill, found all these things and sent the author an e-mail detailing all of them. I remember being so shocked that someone would cite these things with actual "quotes" as to where they were that I actually downloaded both the House and Senate bills at the time and combed through both on every page that was listed and none of the citations were there. I remember being all :psyduck: that someone would send such an obvious fabrication that could be easily refuted with 5 minutes of work, but I guess the author was banking on no one actually looking up the source when he sent in his FWD:FWD:FWD:FWD revision.

This was back in December though and The Dispatch website only has a 30-day archive for letters and 7 for Op-ed pieces. :(

Come to think of it, most of the Letters to the Editor in The Dispatch are pretty loving terrible. Maybe we should have a Crazy Editorial thread.

Edit: According to the property data on the PDFs of the bills I downloaded it was actually in late November.

Yes, yes they are.

Do you remember if this was a Sunday edition of the Dispatch? If so I may have it lying around in my recycling pile.

Well the property data says November 30th which was a Monday, but it's totally possible it was from the Sunday November 29th edition. Don't really remember though. :(

What was the 'destroyers' comment? I'm just curious to know how someone would even go about trying to refute someone with such a lack of ability for critical thought.

He posted links about hospitals in Greece, Egypt, and India and schools/universities in Greece before Christianity.

Back before the election, my father sent out the "Obama is a Muslim" chain letter email. I politely responded to him (and the people he'd sent it to) with another email refuting each one of the false points, and had links to Snopes and other sites to back up my views on the subject. I ended the email with "I don't care who you vote for, but please check your facts before sending out blatant lies about people."

A few days later, I got this email from my younger brother, whom I've not spoken with in three or four years.

quote:

"YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. GET OFF YOUR rear end AND GET A LIFE. THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN A drat COMPUTER. GO OUTSIDE OR SOMETHING. YOU ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING SMARTASS TO SAY. DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHAT MY DAD SENDS ME OR ANY OTHER FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF HIS.IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH WHAT HE SENDS YOU TAKE IT UP WITH HIM LEAVE EVERYONE ELSE OUT OF IT. ALL OF HIS EMAIL HAS TO BE BULLSHIT BECAUSE IT SAID IT WAS ON THE NET. GROW UP AND QUIT BEING A DICKHEAD. HOPE YOU CAN FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO PLAY KIDDY GAMES WITH."

Later that afternoon, I got this email from my father:

quote:

"I have a few responses to your reply to the e-mail concerning Muslims. No one has to check facts to post ANYTHING on the net or in news papers or anywhere else. This is America and we have FREEDOM OF SPEECH. I know, I spent 4 years in the military to insure we keep it....... HOW ABOUT YOU???? All in all I have only one thing to say. Kiss My rear end. (also, MrBill sounds like a fag)"

After getting over my astonishment that my father would send something like that to his son, I pretty much wrote both of them off and have decided that speaking to them about anything at all would be a waste of time.

At least my mother is a sane, balanced, logical individual.

No offense taken. My father was a self-centered abusive alcoholic rear end, and my mother divorced him when I was 9 (as soon as she was sure she could raise us on her own). Even my half-brother and half-sister (from his marriage before my mom) have a similar opinion and refer to him as "the sperm donor" and not "dad".

Last I heard, he'd had part of his stomach removed due to complications from chronic alcoholism. When the call finally comes that he's passed away, I don't know if I'm going to care - after all, he never cared about me once he could stop paying child support.

Conversely, my mom kicks rear end.

Your father seems to have confused a legal requirement to be accurate on the web or in email (there is none for the most part) and the requirement to be accurate so that people will respect his opinion.

It's funny because I remember a friend telling me during the Bush era that snopes was conservative. That's how you know they're trustworthy.
