I recently "discovered" two bands that I think are pretty good, and I figured I'd share 'em with this thread (although you guys have probably heard of them already).

Broadcast the Nightmare is one, and I like their instrumentation, but the vocals are kinda meh.

Also, I like Within the Ruins as well. Tractor Pull owns:

Wow, that's great news. I've had their EP for awhile now...it kicks some serious rear end. Glad to see they're finally getting some recognition.

gently caress yes. I've had that EP for quite a while now, and I've been waiting for a full album ever since the day I originally heard it. They are one of the only bands I know of that I can listen to for another taste of what I like out of The Absence.

Within the Ruins just put up a video of pre-production on their new album. A lot of it is just them dicking around but the few clips of new songs on there are awesome. Nobody grooves like WTR.

i really dont know what to say. the beginning sounded like some black metal tremolo or something and i was kind of excited. enter cookie cutter core riff. ;/. you shouldn't even really post this here for evaluation without a drummer because who knows he could save it. i think your guitarists need to practice more, though.

edit: a couple of those riffs in that Within The Ruins video made me remember I need to practice more

I mean, you said what you said. We're trying to blend black metal with core breakdowns, so I'm glad you picked up on that....

We've got a drummer lined up for next week, and like I said, only our second practice. I figured if there was ever a place for snarky commentary, SA would be the place!

In other "holy poo poo, people I know are getting big" news, some Fort Collins people, Arcanium, get to tour with Bullet for my Valentine. Oh, and they just got done touring with Megadeth and Suicide Silence, the bastards.

They aren't really "core," (more just straight metal) but I thought it deserved a mention.

I got a hold of "Resurrected" by Built Upon Frustration. Didn't think it would be good as The Book of Mourning, but I think it's even better. Track it down if you like dumb, heavy-as-poo poo hardcore.

You should probably just listen to the song and ignore the video.

Yeah for real. I've been raving about their debut album since it came out. I think it gets better with every listen. Probably one of my favorite metal albums ever. If you're not into Dillinger-esque nonsense music then you probably won't like it though, which is understandable as its a lot to take in.

Everyone should check out Terakai too.

They're like a more melodic Architects, but nothing I say can really do them justice. Can't wait for their album to come out.

I just went to the Atticus Metal Tour last night and the opening band was Stray from the Path. I had never heard of them before but they blew my mind and I'm currently really digging their sound. What's the general consensus of them around here? I feel like more people should hear about them.

I really, really enjoyed Depths, but they don't seem to be everyone's cup of tea. "Every song is literally 100% breakdowns" seems to be the prevailing complaint. They are completely skipping Austin while touring San Antonio is my main complaint. That and they don't even have a guitarist listed on their Myspace page right now can't bode well either.
