I think that's why public support cooled for things like space flight, but I was trying to make a different point.

This thread needs more Eagles. Screwing around at the hush house before a burner run, thought this was a pretty sweet angle. VTEC's kicking in, yo! My baby. I loved this jet, it might have been useless in a real war (2-seat training varient) but drat if I didn't love that jet like a child! Easily my favorite picture of me, I got called in to do a launch at 0300 one day and didn't know the base paper was there photographing me. It made the front page a few days later and being a reletively new airman, I was thrilled. I have the full-sized file and its been my wallpaper ever since. I work on F-22's now and while it is a sexy aircraft (I just noticed today that the tips of the wings droop ever so slightly and its very aesthetically pleasing), but there's a special place in my heart for the F-15. Some crusty old chief told me once that you fall in love with the first jet you crew and like any first love, nothing ever really replaces it. I went to the Air Force museum at Wright-Patt a few months back and it was amazing. I'll have to get around to uploading the pictures I took.

Anything with an obscenely large piston engine. I had the chance to see about a dozen Spitfires flying in formation a couple of years ago, and the sound of that many Merlins and Griffons running simultaneously was absolutely breathtaking.

Every year there's an air show in at the Chino Airport. I was working at Staples at the time and had forgotten about the air show. Shortly after noon the entire building shook, like three times, had no idea what the gently caress, until I walked outside and saw the 4 F16s flying in formation over the store. Also there is a sweet yellow flying wing that is kept at the Air Museum at Chino that flys.

Reading up on this made me realize how cut-throat multi-billion dollar defense contracts must be, and what incredible havoc can be wreaked with just one paid-off mechanic. What an amazing aircraft to have failed utterly. The wikipedia said that one of them crashed due to an overspeed in a stall recovery because they were too low drag(?)... Sucks that we didn't build more B-2 bombers to pay his family back. Dude got screwed.

I was watching a show the other day about stunt aircraft and how they can pull upwards of 13g. I think the most I've ever seen a fighter capable of is ~9g. Is this done because of the weight of the fighter vs. stunt plane or because the pilots in a stunt plane are only subjected to that force for a very short time?

~9g is right on the edge of what the human body can take with a g-suit. 13g is defiantly pushing it, although if the maneuver is short enough you can probably get away with it.
