This is genuinely making me scared for Phillipe. What's gonna happen when others figure out that he is Five? (and has been for like 50 years?)

DeNeuve only got puzzled when he saw Philippe's mom. Maybe he thinks they're not biologically related? I dunno, I'm kind of torn between whether DeNeuve is a kindly type who Onstad unintentionally turned into a dead-eyed horror, or whether he really is as sketchy as he appears to be.

DeNeuve knew too much about Philippe's home life. I wager we're heading toward a terrible, terrible revelation about the little otter's father.

Maybe Philippe's "mom" is actually his grandmother and she's been concealing the tragic deaths of his parents from him.Skadi posted:Forget that, what are those blue nubs on the wheel? Bling? It looks like one of those grippy covers, but with blue LEDS on it for some reason.

It seems many people here are like me and are in such a hurry to see what happens that they don't pay enough attention to the details. Panel 8, April 2, 2010: Voice on phone, talking to Teodor: Our driver is two blocks away, with Mr. DeNeuve, awaiting your authorization of these changes.

Sgs-Cruz posted:It seems many people here are like me and are in such a hurry to see what happens that they don't pay enough attention to the details. Spot on, you are correct. Thanks. Looking at the next strip, he's clearly sitting on the same bench-style back seat as Phillipe, and you can see an object in front of him that is more likely the headrest of the drivers seat than it is a steering wheel Ok I'm just retarded and it all makes sense. And yes, he's concerned about how a very old lady can have a five year old, and is about to discover that Phillipe is Five Years Old and this is a true thing forever. glug fucked around with this message at 15:05 on Apr 10, 2010 |

He may call her "Mom", and regard her as such, but I have serious doubts that she gave birth to him. Granted, I haven't been reading Achewood for as long as you guys have so it's jarring to see this little old lady be presented as the actual factual birth mother of a five year old. She has a string (of pearls?) to keep from losing her glasses! That's pretty typical of Little Old Ladies.

You need to go back and read the archives. I am so familiarized with this woman it was heartwarming to see them see eachother after so long. But also sad, because she is nearly backwards insane.

The one thing I don't get about this whole arc is why Ray didn't send Philippe home when he made it big. I think I know why, considering this very same storyline. Ray probably didn't want to just give the kid the money, but thought he should earn it, because, in the same way that Ray provided competition for Philippe, Ray didn't want Philippe to think the world would just give him stuff. However, I still think that's a jerk way of rationalizing "He's too cute to not have around".

If we're being all about realism up in this bitch about cartoon cats, then I want to know how they got the manufacture/handling/shipping assets and personnel ready to create all the things Philippe invented for the catalogs, or if T is just straight up conning that stupid people who ordered out of their money.
