That's exactly what it is, i.e. morbid curiosity. People are fascinated by those outside the accepted values of normal for society. The multitude of shows simply means TLC saw how much people watched one show about midgets and wondered how much they'd watch two shows about midgets and so on.

I was without cable for many years. I used to really like watching TLC back when it had cooking shows and home improvement shows (remember the Furniture Guys?). Then I got cable and again, and TLC sure has turned into a sideshow.

Yup, same reason there's TLC is the freak show network.

So uh, I noticed I have another Natgeo network now. NatGeo Wild. I don't know if this replaced another channel or not, or if I legitimately have a new one. Too bad they still give all these damned dog shows on the regular NatGeo.

The Hillstrants doing Geico commercials? Makes about as much sense as Sig selling frozen salmon burgers in grocery stores (which were okay, but not something I'd pay that much for again).

Has Mike Rowe always narrated Swamp Loggers? I'm also surprised Keith didn't go into one of his trademark ballistic moments after he found out about the bait & switch. Trident posted:I hope they weren't serious about throwing the Jakes in the water to swap back, that seems unnecessarily and dangerously dumb. Right at the start of the episode the two boats seemed to be circling around someone in the water in a Survival suit and things were getting very dangerous (someone shouting "he is going to get sucked into the prop!". Then the episode ended without them expanding on that at all, so who knows really. It really felt pointless for them to air that at the start and not follow up on it in the same episode. I also think the Northwestern Jake might not want to go back because of his comments during the episode about feeling like a real deckhand on Phil's boat.

Generalized pain tolerance isn't something that can be effectively tested ever due to both the scope, dimorphism and inherent ethical quandries, much less by a serialized hourlong television show.

I just caught up on Deadliest Catch and I gotta say that next season will be weird for me. With Phil gone, that pretty much leaves 1 captain I like and that's Sig, although the Kodiak skipper seems OK. I tired of Keith pretty much immediately and I'm now done with the captains from the Time Bandit. They're just complete pricks about anything and everything, carrying the most retarded grudges and acting as white trash as is humanly possible. I'm sure the show will be fine but not sure how much I'm going to enjoy it with only Sig to look forward to(and I love his blow ups).
