Hey guess who just reinstalled the game after reading this thread I'm going to try this nameless mod out after playing through this again for old times sake.

Something always bugged me about the last trip to Hell's Kitchen you make in the game. When you go and talk to Stanton Dowd, some punk guy runs up behind you and aims his gun during the conversation. When the conversation is over, he opens fire. Beforehand you can find him wandering around in the alley behind the 'Ton Hotel where he just says stuff like "yo what's up." Who is that guy and what's his beef anyway?

If you get close to Osgood's he'll run to catch up near you, then "play it cool" and walk aimlessly in slow circles.

So I decided that I might as well do a Deus Ex neat moment video as well... but all I got is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vva_IvXYg4g Things looked a lot less dark in-game. Recording with Fraps, if that helps. What should I change here?

With the whole unconscious = just another type of corpse you could toss people through windows and have them fall incredible heights (if it was in the same map) and they'd survive. It was pretty funny, but I can't say I regret Biomod fixing that.tokyosexwale posted:I just bought the original Deus Ex and the sequeal off of Steam due to the mid-week deal but I can't get it to run. Out of safemode it runs like it's skipping a bunch a frames and is real jittery and jumps forward if I move at all. When I run it it safe mode it goes really slow and most of the audio cuts out. When I try to set the affinity to just 1 processor through ctrl + alt + delete it just crashes the game. Did you try reading the OP? Basic Beater posted:List o' Mods*:

I always thought that the mugger was some kind of undercover cop. A few of the people around hell's kitchen were talking about a guy mascarading as your uncle trying to find you, and any time that guy finds me while I'm sneaking around I get mobbed by a group of riot police or UNATCO.

Does anyone have any idea of what console commands to use, to change the single player character model from JC to say a child model? I'd be pissing myself being able to play through the entire game as a child model. Go in and go in and go in and go in like the US Marshall, and his three daughters and we lose the vaccine? Get pills against my orders!

The one thing in this game that's ever bothered me is in the cemetery. If you go into the caretaker's house and destroy the beacon/communicator/MJ12 thing you can go talk to the caretaker afterwards and he doesn't care and JC doesn't even bother to ask him why this thing's hidden in his house. Then you're taken completely by surprise when the troops show up out of nowhere

The Shifter mod sometimes makes things unintentionally hilarious. Want extra skill points every now and then? If you see a cat, walk over it then kill it. You provoked the cat without killing it so it went hostile, and because you killed a hostile you get ten skill points. DEATH TO CATS.

Since I first played the game a year or so ago, I've gone through probably 2 or 3 times, and I've never had any bum come up and point a gun at me during my talk with Dowd, or heard anybody posing as my uncle (actually, maybe I HAVE heard that last one...). He'll only show up if you don't kill Joe Greene and you talk to Jordan Shea (the Underworld bartender) before seeing Dowd. If You kill Greene and avoid Shea (I guess she's a UNATCO informant or something), you won't get ambushed by MJ12's hired thug.

I'm probably on my 3rdish playthrough and it's the first time I saw the bum. I've definitely SEEN him around, which is interesting, but this final playthrough I came around to Osgoods through a back alley (and not from the cemetery) and noticed Dowd kept getting shot at no matter how many times I reloaded my save. Went to check out who it was and saw a man in blue--I had assumed it was a cop like the one in front of the cemetery, but he was mad bumish.

GoldenNugget posted:With nonlethal gas weapons like pepper spray and gas, you need to be quick. Pepper spray, you need to run up to someone and gas them in the face until they have their hands on their face. You then need to use a baton on their backside and they'll get KO. Gas grenades are more useful since it makes them immediately cover their faces. I think eventually they passout or you can do what I do which is run into the gas and wack them in the back (you'll take a tiny bit of damage). Then, the baton should take out most guys. Back of head isn't always necessary (I think their health goes down gradually after they're sprayed). Men in Black require a spray, prod, then baton. And you can actually loot their unconscious bodies. I say this every Deus Ex thread, but pepper spray will absolutely carry JCD's rear end for more than half the game. It's definitely my most often-used ranged weapon and takes only one inventory slot.

Hogburto posted:Pepper spray works at like 10' and all it takes is one puff of cloud to work, so you should be able to incapacitate at least 200 guys with one cartridge. Seconding this, if only for the tradition of making life more difficult on myself by pepper spraying that sassy child by the dock in Battery Park. Every. Time. The "child in pain / strange cat howl" sound effect is worth the price of admission to not getting civilians to cooperate with your investigation.

Pepper spray is almost essential for a nonlethal run. I just wish it was a liiiitle longer range, but I understand why it's not.

^^^^ Speaking of things being a "liiiittle" more of something, I wish the tranquilizer darts took just a little less time to work, just 1 or 2 seconds quicker would be great, since 90% of the time when I get somebody, they'll become alert and have enough time to set off an alarm or find a few buddies and let them know I exist. So I'm not sure where this sudden love of the pepper spray comes from. In my experience, it has a range of like 6 inches, will ALWAYS fog yourself, and whoever you spray it at will notice and run away/around it before the puff ever reaches them, unless you are literally in their face and they aren't moving when you spray it.

I never used pepper spray in my nonlethal run but I guess it was because I was using it wrong with the whole run up to someone while spraying and then baton them. Maybe I have to try sneaking up on them rather than be aggresive with it. But then I think I'd rather just straight up baton them. I remember being able to use the prod to KO MIBs and MJ12 commandos (the dudes with the rocket launcher arms) really drat easily. I think it was one or two prods to the butt while unalerted. And I think tranqs KO instantly if you get a headshot but it's been a while since I've tried.
