I sent Universal an inquiry about it, and they sent me an email. You print that out, write out some info on it, then send that with the top flap of the Season 1 blu-ray to some PO Box. I got mine about three weeks later.

I'm pretty sure this link is what I used to contact them.

I just sent you my BSG Blu-Rays! I also sent in my entire DVD and Blu-Ray collection so that those cases can be upgraded to Blu-Ray style Criterion cases. Thank you BMK for the upgrade. I can't wait to get them back!

Oscilloscope always likes to do cool art and stuff on their packages. All of their cases are like that.

It still sucks. The only other individual movie I have out of hundreds that doesn't come in a normal case (other than digibooks) is Close Encounters, and that was released in 2007 so at least there's an excuse. I guess it's a small gripe in the grand scheme of things though, especially considering the caliber of the movie.

So, a film by the name of Outlander came out on Blu-Ray today. I had never heard of it before, but it appears to star James Caviezel as an alien who crash-lands on earth and helps a bunch of vikings kill another alien. Now, this seems like a pretty high concept to me, but reviews are mixed: 39% on RottenTomatoes, 6.4 on imdb. What do you say, goons? A fun little romp, or just more trash?

I watched it several months ago, and although it's not the worst movie I have ever seen I don't think I could justify buying it on Bluray. There were some parts that I liked a lot but for the most part it's just a B quality scifi film.

My recommendation is to try and get it off amazon for really cheap or wait until it's really cheap. Basically I wouldn't pay full price but if I picked it up for cheap I would be ok with it.

Is it one of the double-sided discs? If I recall, there was some defective ones.

That was the third movie, and the problem was fixed before the discs hit store shelves.

Wal-Mart had a "just the discs" release for a short time for $30. I cannot recommend this release enough... great film (regardless if you're into the culture or music), great presentation, and hours of extra performances.

Thanks for the heads up. Been wanting to pick that up for ages and $27 is definitely a price I can't pass on.

WB/BBC are releasing Wonders of the Solar System on 9/7, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is getting a new release on 7/27. The only differences seem to be that the new disc has an additional commentary track and a different audio codec (TrueHD versus uncompressed PCM - weird decision).

So Crouching Tiger is finally being released as a stand alone? I've been waiting for quite a while to own it on blu.

It was already released as a standalone a couple of months ago, which makes this new release a bit puzzling.

Wait, in the US? Amazon doesn't have any copies in stock, you have to buy from a 3rd party.

Edit: And Best Buy lists it as a pre-order.

I watched the it on the recommendation of a goon whose opinions I trust implicitly, and I don't think I've ever seen such a remarkable turnaround from "nearly unwatchable" to "remarkably awesome" in my life. It becomes an entirely different show after the pilot, and then again after the 4th or 5th episode, and both times for the better.

Check it out.

Aren't all full seasons of shows on blu-ray around there in MSRP?

All the retailers just end up selling them around $50-$70 anyways and calling it a "massive discount".
