For those of you who are in Chicago Dirtyphonics will be playing at The Portage Theater this Friday the 9th $5 ladies / $10 guys after 10 pm. I guess they originally were playing in Milwaukee but for some reason decided to play in Chicago instead.

Alternatively, Rob Swire posted a few seconds of his Witchcraft remix on his Twitter:

It sounds more like The Island Part 2, which, while not nearly as drum-and-bassy as Netsky's, it's more the kind of upgrade I was expecting, and it definitely delivers.

Now this is something I can listen to, nice. Do you know when it will be released?

e: nevermind, says July 18 right on the soundcloud page.

Old Town Road to EGOT

Here's a BBC 1 radio rip of the full remix:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2MQH22U0l0

The DJ (Zane Lowe? I don't listen to BBC1, but that's the guy who has debuted all their other big tracks recently) talking over it is pretty annoying, but it is a radio rip after all.

Absolutely destroys the gently caress out of both the original and the Netsky mix, and it sounds more like something that belongs on Hold Your Colour, which is definitely a good thing.

Also, I'm now aware of the title "drumstep". I never knew what to call tracks like The Island Part 2 and the second half of Sub Focus' album, since they weren't quite drum-n-bass but weren't quite dubstep either. But that moniker makes sense, and I kinda feel like a dumbass for being unaware of it before. It's so obvious :shobon:

The DJ is annoying as gently caress, but at least they have radio shows of that nature over there. The best we have here in Kansas is "Liquid Buzz" which is every Saturday from 10 PM to 2 AM, and it's mostly just a bunch of lovely trance.

Interesting remix, I'm not sure what I think about it - I think I'd have to hear a high quality version, but I think I like it. Definitely better than the Netsky remix, though.

Not really. I guess you don't like liquid? That song pretty much owns. If you hate "boring liquid" you probably shouldn't listen to this mix. Everyone else should.

And now for something that isn't related to pendulum...

Cyantific & Wilkinson has released a remix of Kid Adrift's Oxytocin that has one of the sickest synth drops I've heard in a long time. it's freely available on his website

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OfjME5ar74

I don't really like the vocals at all, though. It sounds like Jonathan Davis from Korn is singing emo lyrics, but the original is pretty emo as well.

What's cool about the original is that it was directed by none other than High Contrast:

No, I do like me some liquid (if High Contrast, Logistics and the like is what you call liquid, I'm not that good with subgenres). The thing is, he butchered my favourite song on the album in a way I don't like. I'll have a listen to the mix and see what the buzz is all about :)

'Drumstep' is a bit of a silly title if you ask me. It's just half-time drum and bass. Also, Sub Focus doesn't have a single half-time track on his album. Which tracks were you thinking of?

Tracks like "Could This Be Real" and "Move Higher".

I guess they are more electro/house, but they sound kinda different than electro/house I've heard in the past, so I guess I thought they were something else.

Bassy house. I don't want to come across as harsh, but there's nothing d&b/halfstep etc about either of those tracks. :)

Yeah, Anae hit it.

When I kept hearing the term "drumstep", I was thinking stuff like Amit's album on Commercial Suicide. Still fast tempo BPM, but more space between the songs elements, and drum patterns that were three kicks and then a snare, for the main hits.

Also, some early Moving Fusion on Ram had this style to it, but didn't pick up. Actually, I think one of the Ram Trilogy tunes on the second or third EP they did.

My old roommate was 1/3rd of RDS, he's got some new stuff coming out under the SGNL moniker.

And I got to check out Zion's Gate a few summers ago, but unfortunately I had family with me and didn't get to really dig through their crates :(

I mentioned earlier in the thread about Evan from RDS, he's going by Hybris now, just had a single on Critical's new Modulations label, and his newer stuff is getting support from Alix Perez, Rockwell, Sabre, Bailey and a few other big names. He's got a couple other things lined up.

Bryan/SGNL has been working on a lot of different stuff, a lot of non-dnb, but a couple Autonomic-type of things at 170. He's got an album coming out on Spherix's new label.

Didn't really know D-Struct, he only lived in DC for a few months, but from what Bryan has said, he's up in Seattle and I've seen a few recent releases with his name on OnSet Audio.

Hospital has released something brilliant (again)!

That's right, vox from some of the best Hospital tracks in one download. It's like they took a list of some of my favorite tracks and put them all on one disc and said here have fun with the audio tracks. The latest podcast has a few exclusive mashups, and some of the original tracks. Also related to Hospital, Danny Bird's second LP should be out 27th of Sept.

Now something a bit more heavy.

Alix Perez has a new EP out soon, here's what to expect from it.

Alix Perez - Menacing Ways

Alix Perez Feat Foreign Beggars - Dark Days

Edit: Oh yeah, B-Complex's single with Beautiful Lies VIP and Little Oranges releases on Hospital on the 26th of this month.

I had to drop it, too much going on this summer (vacation, guests in town, also got in to grad school a couple weeks ago). Might resurrect Break The Science as a monthly podcast once things settle for me.

However, I will be on Expansion Broadcast (https://www.expansionbroadcast.com) next Friday (July 30th), and I'm working on one or two mixes (probably not dnb for those) for some DC-area blogs. EXBC has several older dnb and dubstep sets of mine, too.
