Yes, to get on it, I have to straight-leg kick my right foot up and put it on the seat, then hop forward a couple times to get my right leg over to the other side - but my little ridiculous 'mounting dance' is over and I'm actually on it, I'm very comfortably on the balls of both feet. Dude, just grab the bars, stand on the left peg with the left foot, and swing the right leg over the bike as if you're mounting a horse. Its a lot easier.

I'm 5'11 with a 30 inch inseam and i have a DRZ with a seat that's raised about 2 inches and I can still get on it and comfortably get a foot down...seat height isn't everything, considering that the seats are narrow and the suspension sags significantly under your weight.

"I wonder if this might be my next bike?" Episode 23. I love sport tourers but I need to come to terms with my body and its desire for actual upright seating. The SV-GS thread got me thinking hard about GSes again, I'm interested in 955 Tigers but other than that there are not many adventure style bikes that tickle the pickle. Until this: Cagiva Grand Canyon More pics here, click on the pic for next: http://www.finn.no/finn/mc/used/viewimage?finnkode=22942267 Woof! This is what the Multistradas should have been going for. Almost 30% cheaper than a same year BMW GS.

I've been thinking of selling my Peg, trouble is I can't find anything in my budget that I would want to replace it with. Not that there aren't bikes that I want, there just don't seem to be any for sale at the moment in the colours/configurations I want.

Ola posted:Unless I do weekend and holiday shifts on a corporate escort / cocksucking service, a new Multi is out of the question. How long did you have it for? Any quirks? More words please! Uhh, well...my first mistake was not taking it out of urban mode. Besides that? It wheelies nicely, even with 100hp at the rear wheel, it jumps good, it hops curbs ok, the traction control is invasive when it's turned up (urban mode defaults to 7, with 8 being the highest), but the ultra adjustable mechanical suspension is awesome, the bike handles great, as you'd expect from ohlins. Hides it's weight very well. The ABS won't let you stoppie, but was pretty good besides that. Still sounds like you're disassembling the front end with a hammer, you feel it cycle hard at the lever, but it does stop you. It's got every farkle known to freaking mankind, just toss the fob in the compartment for it, and press down on the kill switch to start the bike's electronics, flip it up to run, and then hit the starter to get the bike going. Very trick. I couldn't play with the electronics much because I was chasing 2 KTMs through seattle, keep up or be lost in an unfamiliar city, but it was a great crash course in what the bike is capable of, which is just about anything. Reminded me of my ZZR1200 in that it was a great bike just not for me. I'll post up more thoughts on it when I write up my f'ing huge ride report. If I'd REALLY wanted one, I probably could have financed it, but I was honestly happier on my DRZ than on the new multi. It's a great bike, it's got a thousand and one features, it's got every toy you could ever dream of, it sounds wonderful, but in the end, it got kicked pretty firmly out of the "must own" territory. If I only had to live with one bike for the rest of my life and could never buy anything else, it'd probably be about the best choice on the market, but that's not a problem I have. I hope the salesperson didn't notice the faint smell of burning rubber when I returned it. Turns out the TC does let you slide a little bit but it absolutely kills your drive if you overdo it. I'd be curious to try it again in sport mode with the TC turned down and see exactly how slideways I could get it before it forced me back into line. I just toured 1350 miles on a 400cc single, don't me over 75hp. ~55HP in the KTM690s is insane. 75 a lightweight twin should be fine. It's already up on an SV650. drat, I would not have the balls to demo a bike in that manner. Sounds like a blast, but I'll be fat, rich, content and middle aged before I drop such amounts on a bike when there's so many great bikes available for cheap. About the 75 hp, it's a Duc twin so it should be punchy but the Grand Canyon is not light weight, it weighs the same as my GSX. Thankfully, the guys at Cagiva thought the same thing so guess what they did? (maybe you all know this, but I was fairly clueless about the Cagiva ADV range apart from the fugly Elefant) Stuck a Suzuki 1000c V-twin in a new chassis that looks just as good! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0rl24H260c There it is, search over. This is the bike I want.

Ok, you're right about my silly attitude to the HP numbers. Particularly when I checked just how cheap I can import a Gran Canyon from Germany. The same engine in the Duc 900SS makes only 80hp and I don't think it's known as a slouch. And if the police has thought me anything this year, absolute straight line power isn't all that useful. Linedance: drat straight I would! Retarded Pimp: I think by "1000 hp drag bike" they mean "hehe let's start it without pipes".

I wasn't sure I had the balls to demo a bike in that manner. Then I was like "Well, this is fun!", and the rest just fell into line. Then again, it seems that I get struck by the crazy when I end up on other people's bikes anyways. Don't lend me your motorcycles. But yeah, that's the problem...with 20k I could buy a street sumo, a trackbike, and go racing for at least 2-3 weekends. I think I've seen one cagiva over here before...

With that motor in it, how's it compare to the big Strom, other than looking about ten times better? I'm hoping the frame is stronger/kit is better/bike is lighter, kind of thing.

I tihnk it's slightly lighter. Obvious hold up is that Cagiva is not going very well so spare parts might be an issue, but that again means lower second hand prices.

Ola posted:"I wonder if this might be my next bike?" Episode 23. The desmo engines aren't too hard to work on, except on a Gran Canyon. If you plan on doing belts or valves, also plan on partially removing that exhaust and other parts of the bike. Yeah, I've been reading all the threads on advrider and that vertical cylinder is a real bitch. I don't think you have to drop the engine, but you have to move the rear shock out of the way and to do that you need to remove the rear wheel. It's got to have some faults right? Otherwise it wouldn't be Italian.

It's a motorcycle, actually. It's based on a 1930 K.J. Henderson and was built for a WWI fighter pilot who became very interested in streamlining. It's a one-off, and the owner thinks it's worth seven figures.
