So I started a play through with HDTP and shifter and using the dxfix, and I played till the Hong Kong part, now every time I open up the save, then play for 30 seconds it ALWAYS immediately freezes after, even in safe mode, no matter what I do. Also the dxfix isn't changing the resolution for me anymore. Anyone else get this? e; 'new game' seems to run fine I deleted some older saves, still freezes. Also the resolution fix only works on deusex.exe but not hdtp.exe and it freezes in both Ryaf fucked around with this message at 20:16 on Jul 12, 2010 |

Is it possible to destroy the UC the first time you enter VersaLife? There is a data cube with the code to destroy it the first time you go in. If so, what happens?

On your first trip to Versalife, the UC area is behind an INF/INF door. (as is the back way). Not sure if you can input the code if you remember it from a previous playthrough, or how the game handles that. I know there are a few places where the game will not accept the code if you didn't find it out for real, one being the Luminous Path entrance.

Off the top of your heads, does anyone remember where you can find silencers and laser sight mods in the vanilla game? I know there's a laser sight in the bunker thingy on liberty island but outside of that I can never remember where I find these mods, I always just kind of stumble across them and forget to make a mental note. But they're very nice to have. Does anyone remember any memorable ones?

It's in the second floor of the armory guarded by the two giant robots. Did anyone else like hacking into the armory computer and turning only one of the bots friendly, just so you could just watch them duke it out? I know I did.

There's a laser sight in the flooded canal road tunnel in the rubble in the right end of the tunnel (as far from where the aug upgrade is as you can get) There's a silencer in the truck near where jock picks you up at the end of the gas station mission

There's also a silencer on board the Wall Cloud before you go below decks. Before this playthrough, I never knew that you could go in the security towers at the airfield. How many times have I played this game and not figured that out?

If anyone wants to hoard old save files like I do, if you 7zip the Deus Ex save folder the result is only ~5% of the original size.

Yep, I only discovered earlier this year that the sub-basement of the NSF HQ in Hell's Kitchen had an aug canister on the _first_ visit. As for the above, there's no hardcoded difference between computers and security consoles. You can give a computer a camera control panel if you like.

Good lord this is the best game I've played on a PC. Playing vanilla, I've upgraded ballistic protection to 4 and aggressive defense to 2. I've mastered lowtech and computers. I...can't imagine playing this any other way. Well, unless I were to grab that UNATCO troops assault rifle on liberty Island and put every upgrade in the game on it. Or maybe max out cloak and run silent, put all the upgrades on a sawed-off, and become a shotgun ninja. Or maybe master pistols early and play like a super spy. Oh lord, the possibilities.

^ One of us! One of us! Try playing through as a sniper. At max skill with a fully modded sniper rifle you can take out security cameras, turrets, even alarm panels unless I'm mistaken. It's pretty hilarious taking out all the security measures before you even get close and leaving the guards with no backup.

I can't play Deus Ex as anything other than a stealth game, with maxed-out electronics, lockpicking and computers. Whenever I try a different build I always encounter something which I think 'hey, if only I had...' and end up restarting. :I

I used to play it as variations on a stealth/non-lethal kind of game (and did the first time through -- mostly because that's how you play the beginning if you want to live), and then after a few times I decided that when the MJ12 troops swarmed me after meeting with Stanton Dowd, I'd just hold my ground instead of running. I flipped on power legs, ballistic armor and regeneration, and hacked them all to death with the dragon's tooth, and suddenly I realized that you could also play the game that way. So I restarted and killed every single person I saw, and got a whole pile of new conversations and it felt like a different game.

This is without a doubt my favorite game ever made. The amount of possibilities are amazing, the first time I went through I played it like a Shooter, and put all my points into Running, Assault Rifles, and I think Sniper Rifles, and totally ignored the story since I was 14, but it taught me many valuable lessons, like how to stealth past the hard parts of games, and also how to deal with hilariously bad Recoil ( I trained myself on the first island how to kill people easily with an Assault Rifle even though I had NO POINTS into it. Yeah. ) Then I went back again when I was older and wiser, and actually played a Stealthy fucker with tons of Tranqs who could open any door he wanted, and it was just as fun, perhaps even more so. This time I actually took the time to savor the story, like a fine wine, and found even more love for this great gem as I realized HOLY gently caress PEOPLE LIKE YOU MORE IF YOU DON'T MURDER ALL THEIR FRIENDS. And finally, I woke up on my birthday this year to notice Deus Ex was released the very day I turned ten years old, and Steam was being such a nice friend and offering me my favorite game for $1.00, so I had to pick it up, and play it again, and this time I'm going through as Robocop, and batoning everything that disagrees with my socialist agenda down. The only negative thing this game did was force me to become super OCD over Savegames. I only had a 7 gig HDD for the longest time, so a game that had such huge Savegames had me constantly entering a new area, and deleting half my old saves so I could free up space for a new one. It bothers me because of games like Kings Bounty or HoMM5 where you need to keep that massive pile of savegames just in case Bobo the Magicians army outnumbers you 10-1, and you need to go back to the near start to build faster, or find more unit production places, or something, and I just keep deleting them and only leaving myself with the three most recent saves. I really didn't hate Invisible War as much as most people seemed to. I mean it was no Deus Ex, but it was still so much better then most of the games that released around that time, so I really didn't mind. Also the JC ending blew my mind as to how everything tied together. I also liked how they actually managed to make everyone unlikable near the end, so the choice was basically who do you hate the least. The first game was awesome, but they really set up a specific faction to be liked, and another to be hated. Can't wait for Deus Ex 3, the one main thing that made me dislike Invisible War was the distinct lack of options on how to handle situations, and the fact they took a serious grimdark cyberpunk setting, and turned it into a happy glowy lab setting game. It really didn't fit the first games setting at all, and the graphics didn't help either. 3 looks like its really gone back to the original games setting of grimdark everythings going to poo poo, and nobody knows why style, which I like.
