Holy poo poo guys, was Seinfeld filmed in widescreen? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_S1Bmh3QSK4 Someone's gotta screencap the DVD version of S3, e01, "The Note", and see if there's actually extra information in that HDTV version.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't, and the image is actually cropped at the top and bottom in HD.

Also, adding that 'easy-to-beat!' voice track was a terrible idea and I'm glad it went away.

Lately my local rerunner has been airing Seinfeld in "widescreen" which has basically translated to it's still broacast in the same space as Standard Definition but it looks wide. Why?

Click here for the full 642x778 image. It's cropped, but there's a few extra inches of horizontal seinfeld as well.

I read somewhere that they actually did have some extra information beyond the 4:3 gate that they recut and used, but they still had to trim the top and bottom to fit 16:9. So there probably IS extra information in the HD 16:9 broadcasts, but it's not going to be significant, and you're losing a bit of information on the top and bottom.

The best part of seinfeld is how you can read an episode's script online and it'll play out exactly right in your head, with the voices and everything. I'm not sure if it works with other shows if you watch them enough, but it owns.

Of all the side characters Jackie Chiles Has to be my favorite. The funniest one though is when he's suing the tobacco company because Kramer aged 50 years in a few days, the greatest of Jackie's public humiliations.

I remember when they had the clip show episode and they showed the filming of the scene where Kramer's face is all hosed up because of the tobacco smoke. I wonder how many takes it took for Jerry to say "your face looks like an old catcher's mitt" without cracking up. They showed him doing it at least 4 times.

I think they mentioned that it was the first time Jerry had seen the makeup, which is awesome. Also, sidenote: I finally caught the final episode of last season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Probably my favourite season, it was so perfect. I mean, HD isn't doing any of the actors any favours(except Julia who is aging backwards or something) but it was just amazing, and the whole season was way more heartfelt than I expected from Larry David. I also loved how they gave the "Seinfeld" scenes room to breath. Even though it was Curb they knew what people wanted to see.
