If anyone is losing interest in Carolla's podcast, I highly recommend WTF with Marc Maron. I started to lose interest in the new format with Teresa reading the news and celebrity gossip taking up almost an hour per show so I decided to check out the WTF Podcast. I was avoiding it because I never liked Maron's stand-up, but he's a loving awesome interviewer. I wouldn't even call them interviews, most of the time I feel like I'm eavesdropping on people having intriguing discussions. Definitely check it out if you're at all interested in two people having in-depth conversations about doing stand-up, living life, and taking poops (Wait for it...POW!).

I agree, the interview sections are great. But the intro sections where Maron is just so pathetically down on himself about every goddamned thing in the universe are 1000x worse than Carolla on his worst day

Turning the light on the darkest places, you and I know we got to face this now. We got to face this now.

Just listened to the Ginger Lynn ep from 7/03 and man that was hilarious. They took like 3 calls and Adam and Drew were high-fiving throughout the entire episode. Drew totally got into it too.

Quick question for those of your who have seen Adam live: it looks like he's doing 5 shows over 3 days in Tempe soon. Does he normally hang out after the night's last show for autographs and all that?

So I listened to the 7-20 Loveline episode with Adam, and I liked what I heard from Mike. I think the "Psycho Mike" name is extremely obnoxious, but otherwise he didn't come off quite as desperate to be liked as I thought he did on the previous one or two episodes of his that I heard. It probably helped that it was Adam in the studio and not any other guest, but still, who knows. Maybe he'll come into his own. As long as he's better than Stryker, I'm happy.

Adam >>>>>>>> Psycho Mike > Stryker > Riki.

I actually sort of liked having Psycho Mike on, he at least kept Adam under control and treated him more like a guest so he wasn't acting like a big shot host screaming "GOTTA GET IT ON".

Today I listened to several episodes from 2002, including the Insane Clown Posse episode. Goddamn, Violent J is an rear end in a top hat. I see what Strange Matter meant when he said that Violent J is "simultaneously the best and worst guest ever," because he does have a great presence, and he engaged nearly all the callers in some capacity, but holy poo poo does he open his mouth too much. He insults everyone needlessly to the point where it becomes grating, and near the end of the episode he took this extremely creepy call where he tried to get one of the callers (a woman with oversized nipples) to meet up with him at his hotel for sex. Anderson censored out the bit where he gives her the address of his hotel; he also had his hands full with this episode, as there were entire segments of text that he had to cut out.

I also listened to Andrew WK's episode (2002-24-29), which I recommend. Andrew was one of the guests "got it" more than most, and was surprisingly knowledgeable. He gets really into the show and actually requests listeners with certain issues (pornography addiction and young birth control users) to call in because he's interested in learning about them. He's also a lot more gracious than I expected him to be. Go figure that these very different guests would meet 6 years later as Andrew trolled the hell out of the "Gathering of the Juggalos."

In a show from I think late 2004 a guy calls in and does a hilarious Adam impersonation that they let go on for quite a while, I forgot to save the date, anyone know which show its from? He calls in again a few months later when Seth Green is guest and does a bogus call plus some more impressions and gets to take a call.

By the way has there ever been a time where a caller has taken a call that has gone well?

Depends on your definition of 'well'.

This guy knew how to roll with it, and was a great sport. I'd even go so far to say that he's most likely not an idiot like most, which is bordering on atypical for Loveline callers. 1 time in 25+ years isn't a great record.

More to your point, there was a great caller I wish I could find again. He was some younger guy in the navy, living on an aircraft carrier. Adam got talking to him about what the carrier ran on fuel-wise and this exchange came up...

Adam: Is it a nuclear engine?
Caller: Huh?
Adam: Does it run on nuclear power? Is it coal, steam, solar, what powers it?
Caller: Oh, it runs on steam.
Adam: Right, but what generates that heat?
Caller: Fire.
Adam: Look retard, I know fire is hot. Where does the fire come from?
Caller: A flame, we just light it like a match.
Adam: WHAT DO YOU LIGHT WITH A MATCH???
Caller: The fire. It burns and makes steam out of the water to power....
Adam: STOP. STOP. STOP. Now listen. I understand the mechanics of how fire burns and water and steam and turbines and all that. All I want to know is where the fire comes from. What is burning to make the fire that runs your ship? Don't say fire, don't say steam, don't say a flame, now what is it???
Caller: Fuel.
Adam: :suicide:
Drew: Adam, you should have seen this coming. You know how hard it is for our callers.

edit - To answer your other question, I remember the guy you're talking about, but don't remember when it was. I'll see if I can find it though.

Also, Theo was real cool, but I don't think he ever called in with a problem. He just wrote and sang songs for them.

Along the same lines, there's Tom, who calls in because he learned to play the Taboo 2 Theme Song on his guitar, so he and Adam sang it together. Great radio.

The song about Teresa giving up her behymen, set to the tune of Credence's "Looking Out My Backdoor" is hilarious. I'd never heard it before.

If you didn't hear it, after they played it she claimed her husband didn't know about her foray into the realm of buttsex, and that since he was an avid podcast listener, he probably would learn soon. Awesome.

December 16, 2004 Theo calls in and does his Loveline Christmas song (about 33 minutes in). I don't think it's ever been played again, so this is the only place to listen to it. It's really good too.

I actually kind of like Mike. Sure, he's no Corolla, but I kind of like him. Definitely better than Stryker by leaps and bounds. That's not hard, but still.

I was listening around the time Mike was officially added to the show and I do remember some brief discussion between him and Drew on how dumb and played out the "Psycho Mike" name was and he kind of wanted to get rid of it, but I guess it just stuck around for what ever reason.
