Yep. Same hours, lower pay, and they bill me out at normal associate rates.

From what you've said previously, it doesn't sound like you want to be in a firm forever anyway, so this seems like a pretty good deal even if the pay is lower. At least you don't have to worry about putting on an appearance of being partnership material, and it's easier to find a job when you have a job.

Oh, gently caress it. My grades are awesome, my CV is middling. I will get two clerkships in summer at good or mid-tier firms, and then re-apply to Allen and Overy (the only firm I've cared about) and get it. I'm just that good.

Years from now, I will die alone with a pile of money and a single copy of my hosed up cover letter, tears of blood streaking it, upset at the idea I could've made more money.

Oh well, three errors out of twenty-five applications. There's always next winter. :(

I'm sure there are always spelling and grammatical errors that people don't pick up on and won't get you auto-rejected, but something like spelling the firm's name wrong is probably not one of them.

And thanks everyone for the Congrats. I'm still excited to be employed even if it does sadly involve the law

Yeah I'm pretty sure that even if you reapply, they might be like "Hey it's that guy who spelled our firm name wrong last time" and summarily round-file your resume

Probably right. Just having my post-app meltdown in this thread. I have reviewed all my other letters and answers to the silly questions they ask (How does a big firm retain its competitive edge post-GFC? as an example). This is the only application with a major error; of the others one had an 80 entered instead of a 78 in a non-law subject, the third had the place where I heard about them entered as a careers fair where they did not have a stall, but only provided an information pamphlet.

But it's good to be told I'm dumb for things I know I'm dumb for because it's too embarrassing to mention these oversights to law friends. :(

Didn't you say you're in the top 10 or so at UWA? If so, I don't see why you'd have a problem getting a top-tier clerkship, whether it's at A&O or somewhere else. I wouldn't worry too much.

should have listened to you, Defleshed. The missus made me go to some place called "bakin' & eggs" up in the norther part of the city, and they serve the typical american bacon. I specifically asked, "does your bacon consist of burnt pieces of bark that taste dreadful?" and not only did they deny this, but they then agreed with my description of how bacon should be, and said that I would be served such quality meat. All lies; the bacon was a somewhat thicker than usual, but just as narrow, strip of charred bark.

In other news, I'm reading Courtroom 302 and I'm p sure I did the appeal for one of the characters who crops up. The author is a rank outsider who doesn't appear to understand or appreciate a lot of what goes on about him, but he does a fair job of rekindling warm memories of working there (26th, not 302 specifically). Wish he would stop trying to insert his own, journo-quality opinions into everything, though.

I know the chef at B&E and I have eaten there more times than I can count. I really don't know what kind of bacon you're expecting. I mean, come on, B&E has something like five types of bacon to choose from, you couldn't find one to your liking? Do the brits eat their bacon raw?

They tried to pull that "different types of bacon" rubbish on me; I don't want to hear all the stupid flavourings or methods of smoking they use, I just want a piece of bacon that is actually worthy of that name. Also, B&E was packed full of noisy dickheads, it took fifty minutes to get a seat, and they don't know how to make a cup of tea. Pro-tip: if you're a breakfast place and it takes fifty minutes to get a seat, just close your doors/shoot yourself

Nah I resigned after she attacked me and I got yelled at for it.

Long story short: She was incompetent and didn't do anything (I mean literally in the office for 3-4 hours a week), upper management offered me her job. The day she was supposed to be fired, she got put on probation instead BUT I was told they didn't want me to leave and that I didn't have to take any poo poo from her. I didn't take any poo poo from her, gave some of my own, she flew off the handle and charged me like a bull with rabies. I dodged her but she still made contact (I could have laid her out but no one would believe she charged a 6'2, 220lb dude).

CEO came to the office, told me I was acting like a child and wanted me to sit down with her and "work things out". I declined the working of things out and resigned.

8 days later she got fired.

You could say we both lost but she made about 3x what I did so I'm claiming victory.
