I made this post in the 80s thread, but for a ton of New Wave/ Synthpop type music check out these two playlists I found on youtube. Erasure, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, New Order, Human League, ABC, OMD, Soft Cell, some others,

I have a music request of my own as well. Looking at SA, and stuff about music in general online, there is a lot of "GOOD MUSIC TM" or "here's some obscure band you should be listening to" but I'm not really interested that at the moment. Where can I go to get current on the music that drunk girls at clubs are listening to? That stuff sounds great when I'm drunk or high though I have no desire to listen to it on anything but Friday and Saturday nights, but every other day of the week I am listening to a bunch of poo poo for myself.

Early Skip James recordings have a sound very similar to this.

Just get some early delta blues. Stuff from the late 20's and 30's.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for some metal bands? I really liked those metalocalypse albums (the second more than the first) and I bought an Amon Amarth cd and that was good too. I really know very little about music in general other than "this song, I like it" so hopefully I haven't just admitted to liking Metal Nickleback or something :ohdear:

You're looking for pretty much the entirety of melodic death metal. Some of the big bands in that genre are At the Gates, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Edge of Sanity, and Amorphis. Also be sure to grab Heartwork by Carcass.

You're fine. Amon Amarth is decently respected, and people only have a problem with liking Dethklok if you don't like any other extreme metal, you only like it because it's part of the show, and you ignore all other death metal; that doesn't describe you.

Well there's always Deathcab For Cutie, the singers other band, though it's not electronic.

Also Owl City sounds a lot like The Postal Service, I don't think they're as good but it's the same sound.

Also Dntell if you just want instrumental electronic is the other guy from the postal service.

What are some bands/albums with a similar sound to Placebo's Meds? I've listened to all their other albums (including Battle for the Sun) and while I've enjoyed them for some reason none of them measure up to that album. I think it's mostly the album's atmosphere - it hooks you in and instantly you're not doing anything else but listening to it. I want that kind of sound that's really intense and involving.

This might be a bit of an odd request as I'm not looking for bands per se, but rather individual songs of no specific nature. I just discovered Rotary Connection when a friend put on Want You To Know and I loved it. It has quickly become my go to song for when I want to listen to something that'll make me happy. There are a few songs that I listen to when I want something that just makes me feel good and I suppose the other prominent one is the Jackson Five's ABC (don't know if I need to link that as I doubt there is anybody who hasn't heard it.)

So what I am looking for are suggestions or for songs that make you happy. Just songs that cheer you right the gently caress up whenever you hear them.

Thanks.

Get "Alligator" (their third album) and "High Violet" (their fifth and latest album). "Boxer" is their fourth album.

Bands similar to The National? Tindersticks. They're a British band. Get their first two albums (both self-titled). If you need more direction from there, look at the All Music Guide.

This one never fails to make me smile, even when I'm sad about what the song is about. A lot of Zombies tunes, esp. from Odyssey and Oracle, are topically sad but still make me smile for some reason.

Also that one the other guy posted is awesome, that's one of my new favourite videos.

Looking for Reggae/Ragga/Dancehall/Reggae Fusion/Whatever that is in the vein of this song by Major Lazer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwlpObaMNuU

I find this type of rapping, ragga rhyming or whatever to be pretty drat entertaining and fun, but I am unable to locate songs that are similar to it whatsoever. My main problem is the artist "Future Trouble" is pretty unknown, and the songs I have been able to find by them are pretty bad (they make fart noises with their mouths and such). The producers got it right on this song however, and I would appreciate if anyone can help me find more music like this. Thanks!

So I think someone recommended Maudlin of the Well to me here ages ago (not sure if it was even in this thread), and I've since fallen in love with Bath and Leaving Your Body Map. Any bands out there similar to this? I'm basically looking for experimental/avant-garde metal that incorporates a lot of styles and uses unusual instrumentation, but is actually listenable. To elaborate on that last point, I tried listening to Toby Driver's newer band, Kayo Dot, and it's a bit too out there for me. I prefer something with a more defined song structure, something that isn't too all over the place or "arty" (for lack of a better word). Don't care how pretentious it is though, if that wasn't already implied by liking MotW. :v:

You basically need to go out and grab four or five old youth crew hardcore comps because "broin' out" is basically the milestone of that stuff. Gorilla Biscuits, Turning Point, Side by Side, Chain of Strength, stuff like that. Most of those bands were straightedge but limited the preaching to a couple songs per album, and the other topics generally in the posi wheelhouse are almost all directly related to bein' a bro to your bros. And if you haven't heard "Bro Hymn" by Pennywise, it will probably blow your mind.

No, he wants the wave of NYCHC after 8 youth crew. Youth Crew has too many songs about not doing drugs and staying positive. Meanwhile, Just about every song on Demonstrating My Style mentions how important "family" and "brothers" are in order to obtain "unity". Also, they hate girls. Just don't be too put off when you finally listen to Hatebreed and they start talking about wiping tears out of their eyes.
