So I've got a question, I'm currently reading through Dark Force Rising right now and there's a part where they discuss the Empire sending troops to a city and that the force they send consists of mostly standard army troops and some stormtroopers. I always thought Stormtroopers were the standard troops in the Imperial Army? Can someone clear this up for me?

I accept it because the Rebel soldiers are shittier blaster fodder. It is insane though that some of them are far off recloned versions descended from the Clonetroopers who are just plain a million times more professional and efficient than them.

Just as the marines of 40K could probably absolutely smash a stalemated trench war, Thrawn showing up in the right place could, as you said, really outgun his opponents. I'm saying, on a galactic level, these people are irrelevant and insignificant. They would have no effect on long term galactic developments, yet they are portrayed as the most important actors in the galaxy. As I said, it's poor writers trying to stretch reality to allow their subjects to be really important and epic and galaxy spanning instead of what they should be; a regional blip. Its probably due to the fact some marketing dude over at Lucasbooks or whatever saying that they have to be there and be part of the major action. Probably cause he thinks people would be scared if they opened a Star Wars book and it didn't have Han or Luke in it and go "I thought this was Star Wars." Little do they know that people who still read SW books I would say 9/10 times have read the books that came before it and don't need the big three.

Torael_7 posted:The short version from the three books is a lot of convoluted subtlety and intrigue between "Kuat of Kuat" (the leader) and others who want his position and may or may not want to also stay aligned with the Empire. Boba Fett gets tangled up in all of this. At the end of the trilogy, Kuat of Kuat, who would rather see the shipyards burn than let someone else control them, is trying to blow them up. However, Fett, who wants answers, confronts him on the bridge of a mostly-finished Star Destroyer, through which the explosive sequence ran. After getting his answers he then single-handedly pilots the loving thing out of the shipyard, simultaneously saving his own skin and, oh yeah, earning a lot of gratitude from Kuat's successor, since without the destroyer in the chain, the destruction of the shipyards was only partially completed. You missed a few Kuat's there. In the BB thread, I believe he had him as Kuat of Kuat, the Kuat of Kuat from Kuat, Ruler of Kuat and leader of all the Kuat of Kuat. The word Kuat is apparently like Aloha, only instead of meaning both hello and goodbye, it means everything. Hmmm, only one of those "Kuat"s is kitting FF's spellcheck and incorrect.

They can send them to any flashpoint or difficult to pacify world, like tattooine which is most controlled by a gangster and his cronies. The movies only show us flashpoints, not true backwater worlds where no one cares about the Empire, or any significant pitched battles for planets with strategic significance. Bottom line is in the movies they thought stormtroopers looked cool so hell yeah only show them! However for the purposes of novels, a difference was required, hell I think its even mentioned in the original novelizations stormtroopers are elite.

There's a mixture of the two on Endor reflecting there are two levels of troopers, and the Stormtroopers are the more proficient of the two.

They wipe out the Tantive IV security complement in about eight seconds and have broken through the defenses inside the Hoth Base before the good guys can evacuate.

Spergin' Time. I said it in the other Star Wars thread that there were like a poo poo ton of Sith running about in the GCW Era. Palps and Vader, The lost tribe of the sith and Darth Krayt's sith thing right? Or have I mixed things up? Either way too many sith.

The EU was better when it was simply defined that Palpatine was the last Sith. Legacy of the Force completely threw all of that away.

There should have been no jedi and no sith. Luke Skywalker, last jedi. Oh wait, his sister too. That's it. Finito. Vader killed everyone but those two as well as Yoda and Obi-wan. And if he didn't kill someone, whats-his-face in The Force Unleashed did before being eventually killed by Vader or whoever. By the time of A New Hope, every single jedi should have been dead. Because he's Darth Vader, his midichlorians are OFF THE CHARTS, he'd use his awesome powers of evil to detect the location of any surviving jedi/sith, and he's got a spaceship several kilometres long and if he wants to he can just burn the atmosphere off any planet he suspects has a jedi/sith on it. Maybe even if they don't have a jedi but they give him attitude. No other secret apprentices, no jedi who escaped, no lurking sith, no illegitimate lovechildren of the Emperor or Vader or Obi-Wan or whoever. Every other force-powered freak was pushing up daisies. Vader found them and killed them because that's what he does. It's all he does. The only exceptions allowed are anyone you fight in Dark Forces 2.

I'm surprised that for all the EU hate, no one has posted images from the comic story that is, 100% not exaggeration, a fanboy photoshopping images of himself into movie scenes. I don't remember the name, but it's as embarrassing as it sounds. The fanboy was some typical goateed late 20s nerd. I assume bribery got that passed by the editor's desk. Or pure ignorance of what photoshop was. I think it was an early 2000s comic.
