Very nice, makes you appreciate working equipment.

I once drove a KDX-80 home through about 40 miles of single-track with a vice grip for a shift lever.

Yeah, like the bird.
Going to see the Thunder in the Glens rideout today, should get some decent pictures there. It is a mainly (nearly exclusively) Harley Davidson event but there are usually some wacky custom bikes present.

I'm riding again! I broke my wrist and was off the bike for ~3 months.

I'm still learning this bike. Transitioning from street to dirt is such an crazy feeling, it takes a while to make the mental switch to dirt mode. The turning radius and weight aren't as good as MX bikes, but it's amazing on anything that isn't tight.

The ability to blast through the backwoods and enjoy trail riding on the same bike justifies all the sacrifices it makes.

Man, that Versys sure is a looker.

Cheap to buy, cheap to run (but don't know anything about long term issues), great midrange punch from the parallel 650, dual sporting ambitions but mostly comfy tourer and great city bike.

Negatives: Sex factor near nil. 650 makes my penis look small. V-twin makes nice sound and sexy vibes, parallel twin makes Briggs & Stratton sound and annoying vibes.

Yeah, on paper it's exactly the kind of bike I should want, I even sat on one and it was really comfortable. But despite everything it has going for it, it exudes an aura of do-not-want so strongly, I could never get one.

I noticed the other day that there sure are some weird bikes in Germany. Being Australian I'm not used to seeing road registerable quads, nor silly little things like this on the road.

Ola

Dumb Way Around never disappoints. Remember that death road in Bolivia Top Gear was on? All trembling and nervous with dramatic camera work and so on?

Yeah.

quote:

The plan is to do the Yungas Road, the next day. The so called death road goes down to Coroico, and involves a 3500 meter climb up to 4700 meters on the way back, not feasible without the first gear.

The frustration goes over to irritation. It seems to be no justice in the world, driving half way around the world and have to skip the Yungas does not make sense. If the gearbox had broken two days later it would have been ok.

Frustration goes over to idiocy. I decide to do the Yungas anyway. I will always get down, and to worry about the ascend is to take problems in advance.

Luck is on my side as always, next day my old friends Carlos and Elenize appear in town with their Honda Africa Twin. Carlos sends off Elenize on a bicycle down the death road, while he joins me. At least I´m not alone when the trouble sooner than later will show up.

The way down goes well, despite not being able to brake on first with the engine. The Nimbus brakes were designed in the thirties when the road was built so it matches well. The road proves fairly boring and not deadly at all so it´s quite a disappointment, though scenic.
