Update: according to this post they will pricematch HMV's Metropolis steelbook price down to £17.99 if you ask them to remove the shirt from the order. That's $27.65 if you were wondering.

Awesome, got the email. I couldn't care less about the steelbook, I ordered it because of the shirt, so I'll stick with my $40 purchase :)

The White Ribbon was my favorite film of last year (or in a dead heat with Inglourious Basterds), but it's probably not for everybody. Very slow, austere and mysterious. It's so hard for me to resist buying it in tandem with something else (probably North by Northwest) because it's hard to find it for less than $30, but I don't have the money and I need to save for all the cool poo poo coming out in October/November. (Not to mention The Thin Red Line in a few weeks.)

The General, Potemkin, and Steamboat Bill Jr. are all essentials. Excellent remasters, great movies, and the music scores are not just appropriate, but amazingly well recorded.

How the West Was Won, A Passage to India, Bonnie and Clyde, Easy Rider, and North by Northwest are not only great movies, but the BluRays are flawless. Keep in mind Easy Rider is in Criterion's "New Hollywood" box set, though.

By the looks of it, the briefcase thing contains the stand-alone regular Blu-Ray. I am 99.9999999% positive that the maximum movie mode will be on all regular copies of the Blu-Ray.

If you enjoyed Chungking Express then Fallen Angels is definitely worth checking out. I think I like it just a bit less than Chungking Express but the two pretty much go hand in hand. Happy Together I might have liked even just a bit more than Chungking Express. Really, if you enjoyed that one there's no reason not to pick these two up at that price.

MoC's Metropolis is confirmed Region B. :(

Also, The Digital Bits says Fantasia will still have the edited Pastoral segment, but it'll "more seamless" than the old versions. I'm guessing they're digitally re-touching it. Still, not even an option to watch the original version.

If you play your cards right you can get a region free player for around $100, possibly less. I'm not saying you should do it just to be able to play Metropolis, but there are so many wonderful region-locked imports that make it a very worthwhile investment.

You can workaround the region coding in Cyberlink PowerDVD or ArcSoft Total Media Theater using something like the free Blu-ray Region Tray Tool. You can also perform the same steps this tool does for you by hand if need be.

AnyDVD HD does the job too by manipulating the disc contents on-the-fly, but that's not its main strength and if you just need to be able handle multiple regions it's probably not worth it.
