The Third Man posted:I mean, it seems that way, but the Z driver seems to believe he was at fault, as well as the race announcer and the TG writer. I think I'm missing something here, unless you're not supposed to force another driver out of his line in a corner maybe? The Z looked like it would never make that corner, I was confused until watching the last in-car clip. But the black car did hit him and make it worse, and take himself out of the race, they are both at fault.

Not only did the Corsa cause that, but at like the 2:55 mark the Corsa driver moves right abruptly to block. Terrible driver.

It's a mixed bag really, the 370 went in too hot, trying to regain/hold position. He wouldn't have made the corner well, if at all. The Corsa should have relenquished the position and if he did he would have been able to skirt behind the Z and continue on. It's Racing, poo poo happens, but if the Z hadn't gone in so hot none of this would have happened, initial fault does lie with the Z.

Well saying he was too hot and would have wrecked is a hypothetical situation, maybe he wouldn't have wrecked, and maybe he would have completed the pass. What happened though was a racing deal, but one that the Corsa driver could have avoided easier than the Z guy.

Revolvyerom posted:And only one car bothers to pause their track-driving long enough to make sure everyone's okay. Everyone who tracks there car would know that stopping on track and getting out is a bad idea and its something that is gone over in nearly every drivers meeting. I know the ring is a bit of a different animal, but let the safety crews do their job. Its way too likely that a car will come around the corner and collect not only the crashed car sitting in the middle of the track, but you standing next to the crashed car. To be honest the lotus didn't look too torn up at first glance anyway. It hit hard, but it looks pretty intact. If it was on fire then i could see you saying what awful people the other drivers are for just driving passed, but as it sits I wouldn't have even considered stopping if i came upon it.

another angle It's hard to judge response time because it seems all the vids of it are edited during the fire. On top of that, it's apparently a full course caution and there's no safety car apart from the one that pulls in front of the original spun car. Also, what the gently caress kind of wall was that? The Ferrari driver was clearly the one at fault here but I'd like to think that in 2010 a flaming race car should muster more than two guys in the original safety car responding to a different accident, while they wait for more help to arrive.

VikingSkull posted:another angle I've done race control - and been the guy who's balls are on the line as the actual organiser of the day and I cant fault the response - there was someone trying to put the fire out in under a minute or as good as 30 seconds, which at lower than national level is doing well - additional resources cost a shitload and there is also the fact you need to have all marshalls enter the track safely - there needs to be no repeat of that F1 accident when a marshall got killed by entering a track where competitors were going full speed. The likelihood of requiring a quicker response is very low - there's simply a point where it's unrealistic to resource and in any respect the response was good and with a full fire truck too. The wall would be usually fine as you really wouldnt expect such an incident there - again you cant build for every possible situation, the cost would close most tracks if they dont have a big national or international meet to offset the cost. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIB5zUSGIHo&feature=sub Bumper Cam of Hirvonen 2010 Germany
