Skimming this thread but gently caress, you goons have a good taste in drum and bass. It's been a few years since I was following it. This thread has inspired me, I need to get one of my decks fixed because it conked out on me. I was seriously expecting a load of student union poo poo in here, bravo. This has motivated me to make a mix for the first time in about 5 years.

chrix posted:Must be a wild hair, but I'm really digging a lot of the minimal dnb that I'm coming across lately. Especially Triad. After this mix was finished, I grabbed some , turned up the massive subwoofer and listened to Triad's basslines for the next 30 minutes. It's just so deep. I've been playing Fiasco out like a madman. Absolutely nothing wrong with digging the minimal stuff! Yeah I agree as well triad makes some pretty tasty tunes. Have you heard his "Essence EP"? Came out a couple of months ago and if you like 'Fiasco' you'll love that. This mix is fat by the way, very nice selection (data - splice! dont think I've heard that in a mix before) and i love the glitchy style its pretty fresh. My only criticism I guess would be it sometimes sounds cluttered when you have two basslines playing at once, like in the mix between splice and blush response, other than that its spot on. Just recorded a new mix myself, heres the tracklisting: 1. Icicle - Cold Fear [Shogun Audio] 2. Jubei & Alix Perez - Distrust [Metalheadz] 3. FD, Hydro & Keza - Canopy [Critical] 4. Jubei ft. D Bridge - Patience [Metalheadz] 5. Alix Perez - Behind Time [Shogun Audio] 6. Phobia & Jubei - Cooper's Dream [Coded Music] 7. Phace - Strange Science [Shogun Audio] 8. Alix Perez & Noisia - Loose Ends [Shogun Audio] 9. Ulterior Motive - Featherweight [Subtitles UK] 10. Rockwell - Full Circle [Shogun Audio] 11. Noisia & Phace - Floating zero [Invisible] 12. Ulterior Motive - 2098 [Subtitles UK] 13. Break - Isis [Symmetry] 14. Spectrasoul - Buried [31 Records] 15. Icicle - Driftwood [Shogun Audio] 16. Spectrasoul - Organiser [Critical] 17. Jubei & Alix Perez - Untitled [Metalheadz] 18. Octane & DLR - Back in The Grind [Dispatch] 19. Alix Perez ft. Foreign Beggars - Dark Days [Shogun Audio] Will have a link up in a sec!

What the gently caress has happened to Fresh? He used to have some heavy as gently caress tunes, such as Signal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDM8shYzXNg This is his latest single. Seriously, what the Christ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-vWg0Oue6w Now, there's an original version without the lyrics which is a vast improvement, but seriously, that's the standard he's dropped to? loving hell. Yeah thats BCUK fresh. It is depressing that he makes tunes like that these days but he's responsible for the monster that is 'Heavyweight' so I know hes still got it in him to make huge tunes...

Stop hating on Fresh. I respect that guy so much, he's the most versatile producer I know (speaking as someone who is nerdy as gently caress about d&b). No two of his tunes ever sound the same. Listen to Acid Rain, off the same album as Gold Dust (album's called 'Kryptonite'). loving huge tearout beast. I'm genuinely really happy he doesn't just make the heavy stuff (Signal, Heavyweight, Acid Rain etc) that appeals to the heads, he branches out and genuinely keeps things fresh (har har) with every tune he releases.

On one of the nights there I saw DLR, Ant TC1, Commix, Spectrasoul, Alix Perez, Break and Icicle from 2200-0600, then the next day I got up and went on a Shogun Audio boat party during the day and saw ALL of that lot do one massive b2b session for 4 hours, on a huge boat in some loving carribean-looking paradise land... I reckon heaven is probably a shogun audio boat party! Yeah apologies for the delay it turned out that the mix I recorded had some horrible nasty buzzing sound over all of it so I had to re-record everything. LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad are coming to Houston next month, are they worth seeing for ~$20? I'm still a DnB noob, more into the dubstep side of things, and while his name seems familiar I don't recall where I've heard it.

LTJ is a legend in the dnb scene, up there with Goldie, Grooverider/Fabio, & Roni Size. He runs the Good Looking record label which has many amazing tunes on it. His production is very cerebral and has been classified as "Intelligent Drum & Bass". His Essential Mix is worth checking out, although he probably plays much newer tracks these days. For a better idea of the kind of tunes he'll likely be playing, take a listen to his FabricLive 46 set. That said, if I had the opportunity to go, I would in a heartbeat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVKmCf1Pi-0

LTJ was a much bigger name in the early days of drum-n-bass, so if you liked 90s DNB then you'll probably enjoy yourself. I think the Liquid DNB we hear today sort of evolved from artists like Bukem, based on everything I've heard of his. If you like Liquid, then going to see Bukem would probably be like a neat history lesson. Can't say for sure, though.

Another question - I need a break from juke or else my brain going to dissolve into a jumble of nothing but "pop yo back guuurrrl" and "SHE FREAKIN ME ON THE FLO", and I listened to one of Murderbot's jungle mixes the other day and it was freaking awesome. Does anyone have any other jungle mixes that are fun? I'm a little sad that I was a metal kid back when DnB and jungle were really big, I'm just now learning about all the awesome stuff I missed out on.

Kinda missed all the DJ Fresh put down, but I would have to agree Gold Dust is absolute crap with the vocals at least. I'm a very new DnB listener though so it's not probably my place to comment on it. I will say that I love Hypercaine however though. That and Heavyweight are the outstanding tracks in my opinion. That Danny Byrd & Netsky tune does absolutely nothing for me. I guess I can see why people would like it but those off-beat wob basslines are so base and those autotuned vocals are just cringe... On a less negative note, Ram records have some big things happening over the next couple of months. Andy C is releasing his nightlife 5 mix on the 4th of october along with a couple of Nightlife EPs worth of Ram tracks, the first one was put up on soundcloud yesterday. There's a nice selection on there, from techy stuff to almost jump up: Nightlife EP pt. 1 Ram Trilogy - Gridlock (Break Remix) S.P.Y. - Go With The Flow Spinline - Run Culture Shock - Cathedral Hamilton - Soundboy Callide - Supreme They dropped this out of absolutely nowhere, fair play to ram for keeping their tunes off youtube etc months before they're out, it keeps you excited about releases!
