DVD Beaver has a review up for A Passage to India: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/dvdreviews36/a_passage_to_india_blu-ray.htm It's been out for a while, but I can't recommend it enough. Great film and the usual stunning HD remaster from Sony. doctor thodt posted:So basically, it's just like Sierra Madre. I'm glad to hear that. Did Lowry restore both films? They do drat good work. I think it was a standard remastering. Treasure's camera negative is in beautiful condition from what I've read. Falcon is spotty and has minor nitrate decomposition in a few reels. If you watch the original DVD and the remaster side-by-side, you can see how they fixed some bad quality dupe inserts (like Spade investigating Thursby's murder near the beginning).

I just signed up, and it's probably a little more annoying that you think. I was just going to go ahead and buy two full-priced titles to satisfy my requirements, but for many titles buying two at once triggers a discount, making one not count towards the quota. Buying them separately incurs two S&H charges. I wanted to get Kill Bill 1 and 2, but they're $25 - too cheap to qualify for the quota. It's going to take a little bit of a looking around and making the right picks. Still worth it, but don't expect getting out to be a breeze.

Wait. Where did you see Kill Bill(s) listed? Furthermore, the Disney store offers Ponyo, but you can't choose that as one of the titles in the promotion. What the hell? I have my choice of Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana BDs, FUCKINGHOORAY. So it seems like to satisfy the club requirements, you'd have to buy some box sets, or new releases - nothing else seems to hit the price plateau they want. The Incredibles would help out there, as would Tron (old or new), when they come out.

I'm not sure if this is the absolute best price or not, but I think it's the best I've seen so far. NewEgg.com has Iron Man 2 on Blu Ray for $21 with free shipping, which makes it about $4 or $5 less than Amazon, plus NewEgg has faster shipping (at least from where I live).

Metropolis T-shirts are going out for those who pre-ordered, got mine today. Not the greatest t-shirts they're printing on but at least they're not Fruit of the Loom or, worse, Gildan. The print is larger than I was expecting too. Can't complain when it cost nothing though.

quote:The Thin Red Line I do have this movie on VHS (obviously the best format) and got it when it first came out around my mid-high school days. I thought it was strictly OK, but I can't say I really got it. Coming off of the heals of Saving Private Ryan, you can understand why I might feel that way. I was a bit annoyed that it pulled, what I call, an "Apocalypse Now" on me. "Sure Harrison Ford stars in it. Says right here and his pictures on the back of the box!" I did see it at least twice, but I wasn't really crazy about it. Was I wrong? Tell me why. Don't just send me to that Criterion essay either.

William Pahllace posted:Thinking about picking up Last of the Mohicans now. Has anybody gotten Thin Red Line yet? It has been getting GLOWING reviews from just about everybody. The movie itself was good but the story was all over the place. I'm a simple minded person, so I found the story and characters hard to follow. I would like to think I can appreciate a good love story though, I certainly didn't mind it in the Pacific at all. However the flash backs and letters to/from the one soldiers wife were interesting but I didn't really care. It didn't seem to have much of an effect on the story, it was just there. A lot of that was just ehhhh big deal. There were some really good scenes though that weren't just action. I really liked the beginning, and the parts in general leading up to the combat. The whole thing reminded me a lot of the Pacific, but not nearly as good. Granted the Pacific had around 10 hours to tell a story, this only had about 2 hours and 40 minutes.

I'm posting this again so apologies in advanced. For the Lip Sync issue I'm seeing on Spartacus Blood and Sand, my player does have the latest firmware so I don't think that's the issue. If anyone plans to watch this soon can you let me know if you see some issues with it as well, One scene that comes to mind is when Doctore is confronting Naevia (sp?) about Barca's freedom. If you watch Doctore's mouth look for his lips not matching on words that have accented B's and such. It's not extremely off but it is noticeable. I'm well within my return period so if it's just my copy I'll take it back and exchange it. Again sorry for reposting this.
