I really do wish that GoG would be able to get its hands on more S.S.I games. Such as Pacific General, Panzer General (original) and the Gold Box games specifically the first two Eye of the Beholder games.

For people asking about Arcanum: go with a magic character. Invest every point you get into learning disintegrate. You can now get through the entire game with no real risk or danger ever, so you're free to gently caress around with whatever catches your eye.

Yes, but the questions I was seeing specifically referenced not actually wanting to have to learn a new game. If you are interested in learning a game you don't really need a guide.

The graphics wouldn't even need to be 3D objects, I'd totally go for lovingly-drawn sprites. No need for new features. To quote Homer Simpson haranguing BTO: "No! No talking, no new crap, just play Takin' Care of Business!" I'd take this over Civ V in a heartbeat. I'm sure they'll get right on that after developing the exact same thing, but for the original XCOM. What I'm asking for is a developer with the same mindset as GOG: old games is best games, so let's remake good old games and make them just slightly awesomer. Is that asking too much? (Yes, yes it is.)

I really want them to get Temple of Elemental Evil.

Bought Planescape a couple hours ago (for the longest time I've been calling it Planetscape Torment) and I'm totally enjoying it. However, I'm going to start it over to really get into the what I'm doing, all I've done is install the mods and move around the game a bit to get a feel for it. Is there some standard starter build that would help for the beginning or what? I don't know if it really matters but I want to start off the best way possible stats wise.

Okay, in MoO1, did you notice that creating swarms of tiny ships equipped with mass drivers (halves shields) lets you bassically curbstomp every mofo you meet? Even the Guardian of Orion. Screw diplomatic victories, i just committed genocide on a galactic scale.

GoldenNugget posted:mages are apparently pretty fun but you get that later in the game. If by "later" you mean "pretty much right at the start", yes. But that has nothing to do with why Wis and Int are the best stats: - Wis gives a bonus to experience earned, and unlocks lots of dialogue options - Int is vital for spellcasting (and playing a caster rules), and unlocks lots of dialogue options - Cha unlocks lots of dialogue options. And Planescape is all about the dialogue. The combat stats are your dump stats; none of the combat is that hard and you'll have two other party members to take up the slack before you even reach the first real combat area. The text is where the game shines, and having high Wis/Int/Cha gets you more of it. So, you want as much Wis and Int as you can, then Cha, then the other three. The game is liberal enough with stat boosts and experience that it's not hard to have all three at 25 by the end. Also, there's a few really cool ways you can talk the final boss to death.

There are a lot of strong contenders, though: - Master of Magic - Castles I & II - Jagged Alliance II - Complete Heroes of M&M III Age of Wonders II Shadow Magic is coming out, Fallout, etc... There's too wide a variety of good games on GOG to weigh them satisfactorily.

I bought Planescape Torment, but I'm quickly being reminded why I don't usually play CRPGs from the late 90s (the interface is poo poo). : OK, I need to get a key to get out of the morgue. : Splort. : Time to see where I need to go next. : I need a key to open this door. : Well, maybe it's this other door. : I need a key to open this door. : Apparently I need to use the key manually. Whatever. He's standing next to the door, so let's put it in the "quick item" area and try to use it from there. The manual says I should use this key icon in the right-click menu and then select an item, but I'm just getting a purple border around it. I'm guessing I need to click on the door at some point to actually use it, but my cursor hasn't changed or anything. : I need a key to open this door. : Well, maybe it's the other door. : I need a key to open this door. I still don't know how to use this drat key and the manual is really "helpful" with this: TFM posted:Use Item Yeah, that's obviously working. Great job, guys. I can see why you're still in business.

The only way you could possibly get confused in that first room is that there are two doors. There's the portcullis-looking set that you can see onscreen right when you start the game, and another set over in the left corner. So yeah, kill the zombie, pick up the key with anyone, and click on the door with anyone. That's it. Armor-Piercing fucked around with this message at 04:31 on Sep 29, 2010 |
