Any reason I shouldn't jump on this and make it my daily rider around campus? http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/mcy/1985873735.html

Well yea, but all it needs is headlight, tail light, and mirrors yes? Plus registration and mounting a license plate on it I suppose.

Sooooo Im thinking about getting a new bike. My dad told me all about his old Honda 90 and now Ive got vintage bikes on my mind. Saw this on CL: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/mcy/1975487942.html quote:
Soooo tempted. But on that, maybe people here can suggest other old skool, small, similar looking bikes that I should be looking for. Maybe kickstarters aren't such a good idea for a lil girl like me. But still.... they look so pretty. I'd kill for an Enfield

Congrats! Don't be intimidated by kickstarters, it is a huge myth that they require a lot of force. They require an even, controlled stroke more than a violent and forceful one. Your weight alone is plenty if you put it up on the kickstand and step down into the stroke. Kickstarting is nonetheless an art that requires you to divine the correct mixture when cold or hot and apply choke or sometimes a tiny bit of throttle accordingly, but that's part of the mystique. Where do you want to ride? 100cc isn't allowed on the highway, 150cc minimum.

If you're going that route, get the 200. In purple. http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/mcy/1988516683.html Sellers never fail to congratulate themselves for low mileage on early sub-250cc street bikes. In reality, these were zip around town bikes that typically never strayed into the next county. Disregard 3k on the clock as a selling point. I'd take 13k + a fanatical original owner over 3K + Johnny Clueless. Hmmmm, smallish, retro, cute, maybe a kicker...I'm picturing a late 70s CB400T Hawk:

^^^ Oh man that is a sweet bike. *drool* I'm not planning to take the new bike on the highway. I hated taking my ninja on the highway. This would be more a "scoot around town" kind of bike. Any other kinds of bikes I should be looking for? Man I gotta stop trawling craigslist or I'm going to end up with a new bike. so pretty... want them all

This is a serious man and a serious bike. You're talking about a company that charges (and gets) $35 for a road atlas. Of course the guy's delusional. It's possible in theory, but to get there I think you'd need a motor kit from Zipper's (4K) and maybe the labor to put it in. I don't see anything going on here but bolt on bling blang.

At least when I was younger (like ten years ago) you could legalize that with some turn signals, light and a speedo. That said, if you go to the U please please please don't ride that poo poo around campus like a fuckin' moped driver. I swear once a week I almost get mowed down by some sweatpants wearing tool on a goddamn 49cc chinese shitmobile covered in retarded racing stickers cruising down a fuckin sidewalk in the middle of campus. Somehow those people never get tickets, and yet on the flip side my buddy's chain broke on campus at 3am on his yamaha and he parked it in an out of the way corner of the sidewalk behind a building, only to come back to a nice fat parking ticket the next morning. wilfredmerriweathr fucked around with this message at 14:43 on Oct 6, 2010 |

I'd be tempted to try kicking over anyone cutting across campus sidewalks on a moped if I ever saw it happen, but my campus is too small for that with lots of stairs. A sumo rider going up or down the stairs I'd give a huge thumbs-up, though.

Yeah I figure it will be an occasional toy. Nothing too special, just something different to ride. And I don't mind the work at all. I know parts availability can be an issue, but I'm not worried about it really. Besides, it isn't that much money anyway.
