High School Musical is truly an abomination of a film, but that Riff was wonderful.

Should be interesting. Funny story: Years ago, me and my brother watched the premiere of the original movie out of curiosity to see just how Disney would handle a made-for-TV musical. We were cracking up and riffing on our own the entire time at various things (I remember we loved the over-the-top performance of Troy's Dad), and when it was over, we both agreed that there was no way anyone would like this. And that's why I'm not a stock analyst.

I can't remember - for these live events, do they release a recording or something that other people can watch? I really want to see Paul F. Tompkins on a rifftrax but I can't make it to a live event. Maybe he'll join them on a different one some day...

They've released the first two - Plan 9 and the Christmas shorts special, so I figure they'll release this one eventually.

If its anything like the Weird Al bit it won't actually be that much/long. He'll probably just come out for one short. Although this does bode well for him actually doing a proper riff with Mike.

Can somebody tell me why the guys seem to be giving up on riffing mainstream features? When they started the site it was typically a new one every week or two. I just checked, and they've put out about 10 this entire year.

Yeah, they've been doing a TON of shorts lately and I'm sure the live stuff is a pain in the rear end to set up.
|
# ? Oct 12, 2010 22:24 |
I'm aware of the shorts, but that's all they do now, and frankly I can only think of one or two shorts I enjoyed as much as the average feature. I'm just worried they're going to keep those dwindling until they decide to give it up and just do shorts and occasional live shows.

It's a lot easier to do 10 minutes of stuff for a dollar than 2 hours of stuff for four dollars, so I don't blame them for going this route, but I do hope they ramp up the features once the live shows start dying down. I like to buy the shorts in bulk and watch them like a feature. This is a little more expensive but the crew can stay a lot fresher with a new public menace from the '50s every few minutes.

Honestly, I like the shorts better than the full movies, anyway. - I never have time to watch a movie in one sitting, too busy. 15/20 minute shorts are perfect for breakfast or dinner. - Don't have to deal with sync up, which is a problem when I can't watch the movie in one sitting. - Don't have to wait for the terrible movie to show up from Netflix. Just more convenient.

I can't believe that 100 dollars has been spent on Rifftrax shorts over the past few years. No regrets..they are worth it.

Yes, all too often a movie is reduced to a silly one-liner, a ridiculous catchphrase. This is a sad and unfair practice, demeaning to films with creative integrity and purpose. Fortunately, Clash of the Titans has neither! Upon viewing it, Sean Connery went out of his way to say “You are NOT the man now, dog!” When invited to a screening, Harrison Ford frantically searched for an excuse, finally issuing a panicked “I ALREADY WORK AROUND THE CLOCK!” When a friend asked Admiral Ackbar to come along and see Inception again, Ackbar suspected he was being tricked into watching this movie instead and said...well, you know what he said.

I always thought the Coily short from the tail end of MST3K was the most batshit insane short they've ever done. Then they go and show a short that's the exact same plot only MORE INSANE! That Lynch line was brilliant. Also, did anyone else's theater applaud at the "DID YOU KNOW? Vampires don't sparkle!" screen?

Oh my god, that was one of the funniest that I've been to. I can't wait for this to go on DVD (and Reefer Madness as well). Just a bit disappointed that they didn't announce the next one already, like they did last show. Turnout in CT was about double of the last showing, however. Hopefully that's a trend that's relative around the country.
