Disable starfield blur if you enabled it, the default glide wrapper can not handle it. Also these tweaks should increase the resolution.

Betrayal at Krondor pack just went up. Krondor was the first CD game I remember getting and it was also one of the wordiest RPGs with cheesy cut scenes that use real actors in wigs in poo poo. The best feature are these scattered chests that are locked with cunning riddles and figuring them out wasted many weekends.

They're both classic RPGs but have all the basic amenities you expect from modern RPGs like auto-maps. I like how there's no traditional levels and you gradually become stronger by killing poo poo and pestering people in bars. Don't ignore your social skills because money gets tight and you can make quite a bit of cash by playing in taverns. You should also explore every village you pass by because a lot of NPCs exist that will train you in exchange for something (usually money).

Well, Betrayal of Krondor was already there before, they just upgraded it and renamed it "Betrayal at Krondor Pack" as it now includes the game "Betrayal in Antara" for free, so a nice surprise for anyone that owns it.

Here ya go.

I couldn't make throttle analogue, but you really don't need it to be - in combat, there are very few times you don't want to use full thrust, and you can just tap the thrusters for smaller gains if you need them. If you want to match speed with something, autopilot does that job better anyway. For fixed-speed cruising, just turn off flight assist and float along unpowered once you've reached your desired velocity.

I missed out on Krondor, then. Antara is a good game. Much better than the 3D sequel.

Where do you find the entrance to these secret areas? In your backyard. :tipshat:

I-War is pretty awesome but I'm having minor joystick problems. The throttle on my X45 controls the forward/reverse thrust override instead of setting exact speed. I've pissed around in PPJoy but can't seem to find an axis for speed setting, just the manual thruster controls. What the hell should I do to get decent throttle controls?

You'll have a much better time if you just turn off the sound and crank up some good music. David Bowie for Mater of Orion maybe?

How does Betrayal in Antara run from GOG?

The game is basically impossible to get playable from the CD due to the combination of DOSBOX/Windows 3.11/Sheer luck that's needed to get it working without major issues.

No point going after junk, so get close enough to subtarget and scan the individual pods on a freighter to find something valuable. L-Points are a good place for this, but watch out for police stations and patrol ships.

Don't take on large ships with loads of escorts at first. The smaller ships are more likely to drop cargo if you shoot them.

You can use the Custom Jafs mod (which I wrote) to give Jafs a bigger ship if you want to increase the amount of cargo you can plunder in a single sitting.

Another good way to get cargo is to mop-up after collisions. The big megafreighters sometimes crash into other ships when jumping out of L-Points, which creates some welcome salvage opportunities.

With I-War 2, is there risk in turning mods on and off? Save file corruption, anything like that?

Or is there a way to combine mods? Say, Custom Jafs and Free Roaming?

Never saw anything like this before, I really cant understand what the gently caress happened.

Runs fine from what I tested, but it crashes if you try to run it windowed (via -w or -windowed on the shortcut). Anyone got another way to window it?

Actually ignore the guy above you, there are a lot of trades for mundane stuff so basically grab everything. Install Custom Jaffs so you don't have that horrible limit of 12 crates at a time and hang out at an L-point. Kill everything that comes through that looks like you can take it. When you have a nice number of crates floating around, press 'J' and jaffs will show up and automatically tag the most valuable loot. Go through the L-point to despawn that area and speed things along and repeat at your new location.

Piracy sucks balls with the tug, my advice would be to do the bear minimum to keep you in missiles until you get a new ship (not too long but a few irritating missions between you and there).

Keep stuff until you need it. Nobody ever buys sewage so that can go but if you are picking up lots of that then you're doing it wrong. You can typically find yourself overflowing in common metals etc so just recycle that as and when needed.

Because it's psuedo-random what cargos are you can't really plan anything that deeply. If there's a new trade you want just go out and pirate until you have what you need. Likewise for if you need stuff to turn into nano-juice.

So in Icewind Dale my fighter got diseased by a mummy in the Vale of Shadows and I apparently have no way to cure myself. I also managed to save over the 'pre' save.

I have plenty of healing ... but he simply dies if I try to return to Kuldehar, however you spell it. His stuff is deposited neatly near the edge of the screen.

There's a temple nearby, but most of their services are disabled. I can buy a Raise Dead scroll, but none of my living magic-using characters seem to be able to do anything with it (a specialised mage, a cleric and a bard.) The scroll mentions having to be where the character died, but standing right over his stuff doesn't accomplish anything. The temple sells a Resurrection scroll, but it's an absurd 22500 gold.

Breaking fingers like fractals
I'm trying to play and enjoy IW2, but I repeatedly get killed in the first combat sequence against the pirates at the first stop of the 'guided' tour near the beginning. There's two ships that target you, and it starts me off completely out of alignment with them. I have to scroll through the target list to actually target them so I can see where I'm being shot from, and by that time I've usually been hit 3 or 4 times. I'll finally get one targeted, aim towards them, then I have to be facing them straight on to even hit them with the lasers, and the missiles just fly off, I can't seem to get them to lock on.

Even if I get the first ship destroyed, I'll take too much damage from their homing missiles to even lock on to the second. I've tried it about 10 times so far and I can't find any way to either lock on with the missiles or avoid getting hit. No matter how I fly I'll get nailed, in fact trying to gain some distance means I'll usually get destroyed.

I'm using a controller, and I'm thinking that maybe that's my problem? There's no intuitive way to target hostiles that I've found without going through menus, and since I can't rebind controls I can't fix this.

You can rebind the controls, but unfortunately you have to edit an ini file to do it.

However that part of the game often is hard for beginners, mainly because the most useful maneuvering feature - lateral thrusters and thruster overrides - were omitted from the tutorials.

The combat takes place in a port speed control zone, so by default your throttle speed is limited, and which makes you a sitting duck for the enemies. You can override this by using the W and S keys to boost forward or backwards. You can also dodge sideways using the A and S keys to strafe. Using the WASD keys will make you much more maneuverable and a much more difficult target to hit, which will make the combat easier.

There's no real danger with save game corruption with most mods, and many mods will play nice together.

I wrote the Custom Jafs and Free roam mod, and because they replace the original files with modded ones they'll work well together.

However to run most other scripted mods together you need a special enabler mod called Multimod. Multimod compatible mods will state 'Requires Multimod'

A good mod to get is Location Finder, an A-Z index of locations, which makes finding a particular location and setting a waypoint to it much easier.

R targets the nearest hostile, Q targets the last attacking hostile, E cycles hostiles, T targets the contact in front of you.

edit: hrm, maybe this is not what you asked. Yeah, if you want those functions on your controller you have to edit the config file.

It's weird that while the game is so well designed (supports modern resolutions, 2d visual design is still drat good) there are no menus to change keybindings.
