I like this one:

quote:

I was talking to a friend's little girl, and she said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, 'If you were to be the President, what is the first thing you would do?'

She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.' 'Wow - what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'You don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow, pull weeds, and sweep my sidewalks and driveway, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take $15 of it to local shelter that helps homeless people get off the street and stay off that street, and we can donate to it to them. Then you get to keep part of the money for yourself while helping others.' She thought that over for a few seconds 'cause she's only 6. And while her Mom glared at me, the little girl looked me straight in the eye and replied, "That sounds like a great idea"

And I said, "Welcome to the Democratic Party, sweetheart."
Mostly because I can imagine a kid actually acting like that.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!

A friend sent this along to me. I can't think of a reason to disagree.

I am sending this to virtually everybody on my e-mail list and that includes conservatives, liberals, and everybody in between. Even though we disagree on a number of issues, I count all of you as friends. My friend and neighbor wants to promote a "Congressional Reform Act of 2010." It would contain eight provisions, all of which would probably be strongly endorsed by those who drafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I know many of you will say "this is impossible." Let me remind you, Congress has the lowest approval rating of any entity in Government. Now is the time when Americans will join together to reform Congress - the entity that represents us.

We need to get a Senator to introduce this bill in the US Senate and a Representative to introduce a similar bill in the US House. These people will become American heroes

**********************************
Congressional Reform Act of 2010

1. Term Limits.

12 years only, one of the possible options below..

A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

If you agree with the above, pass it on. If not, just delete
Aside from the obvious irony of the bullet point about health care, I think my favorite part is the explicit "if you don't agree, just delete". I don't want to hear your rebuttals or criticisms, just nod along with my train of thought or leave me alone!

quote:

So a bear who had just eaten an atheist in the woods went into a bar. As soon as he walked through the door the bartender warns him that the bar is a drug free establishment, and that although bears aren't unwelcome, many get removed for violating this rule. The bear agrees and goes to sit at a table. After a while a formerly Christian woman who had been sitting at the bar and who was depressed and alcoholic because she was raped in a back alley on her way home one night came over and started flirting with the bear and tried to get it to buy her drinks. The Bear brushed her off at first but she wouldn't stop because she now had to get very drunk to forget the pain and eventually the bear got very fed up and ate her.

Upon observing this the bartender yelled, "That's it bear, you're out of here! I told you no drugs and you agreed, and you broke the rule so I'm kicking you out."

The bear, confused replied, "I didn't do any drugs, I swear?"

The bartender responded, "Oh yeah?", putting on a pair of black sunglasses, "what about that bar bitch you ate?"

"YEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!"

edit: sorry another

quote:

An atheist was taking a walk through the woods, admiring all that evolution had created.

"What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!", he said to himself. As he was walking along the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. When he turned to see what the cause was, he saw a 7-foot grizzly charging right towards him. He ran as fast as he could. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the bear was closing, He ran even faster, crying in fear. He looked over his shoulder again, and the bear was even closer. His heart was pounding and he tried to run even faster. He tripped and fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up, but saw the bear right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw and raising his right paw to strike him.

At that moment, the Atheist cried out "Oh my God!...." Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent. Even the river stopped moving.

As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky, "You deny my existence for all of these years; teach others I don''''t exist; and even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?"

The atheist looked directly into the light "It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask You to treat me as Christian now, but perhaps could you make the bear a Christian?" "Very well," said the voice.

Suddenly, the bear shed its fur, gained 300 pounds, and donned an ill-fitting sweatsuit. It could no longer walk properly because of the extra weight, so God provided it with a Rascal.

The bear revved the tiny engine and approached the horrified atheist. "THIS IS ARE COUNTRY," it screeched as the Rascal slowly moved over the atheist and crushed him.

I've been Facebook friends with my uncle from Peru for a while now. I'm a science major so I post lots of stuff about science and space (and sometimes politics) on my wall. My uncle has always made weird comments on my links, starting with something as simple as "Hey, nice to see you're into science. Check out these links: " and then he promptly links me to a conspiracy website about UFOs. I figured he's probably just being funny.

The comments keep coming in, with varying levels of crazy. This week they've hit the threshold.

I have tons of family on my FB who post constantly about praising Jesus and thanking God, but always in a very positive way. "Thank God for this lovely weather", that sort of thing. They don't bring up religion or God or Jesus in casual conversation, they're just regular people who believe in God, are pro-choice and want equal rights for gays, so I figured my uncle would be just like the rest of them.

Maybe he's being sarcastic? I didn't know, so I just ignored it.

Yeah I know that that's why it got my attention. The Barack Obama family is leaving tomorrow for a ten day trip to India. This is going to be an historical and incredible trip, mostly in the numbers of people going, costs, etc.

1) The entourage will include THREE THOUSAND people

2) FORTY aircraft will be making this trip

3) TWO marine helicopters are being dismantled, flown to India, put back together to fly the Obamas around the country

4) The entire 500 room Taj Mahal Hotel has been reserved for this group

5) Cost is estimated to be $200 million PER DAY for ten days

6) Keep this in mind when you get the next notice of an increase in your taxes!!!

No one should ever wonder why taxpayers are angry about this type of extravagance while most citizens are struggling with day-to-day costs of living, etc.

I think far more important than term limits is campaign finance reform. Career politicians wouldn't be half as bad as they are, if being a career politician didn't mean you're more committed to looking out for industries and PAC's than your constituents. If becoming a career politician didn't mean having to sell your soul anymore we could do some small tweaking and have long term career politicians who used their expertise and knowledge to actually pass legislation to help Americans instead of business.

One of my friends got this one; the person who sent it said her friend wrote it, and it seems to be original.

It's a doozy:

WTF posted:

Objection to the building of the ground zero mosque is not a first amendment issue which states . . ."Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, etc., etc., etc." As a constitutional professor, Obama SHOULD know this and he should have restrained his speech inserting himself "as a citizen and as President of the United States" invoking the Muslims' right to exercise their faith and their right to build this mosque. This statement is not only reckless but incredibly mindless!!!

NO ONE DISPUTES THEIR RIGHT TO BUILD AT THIS SITE. However, if this Imam Rauf is truly a moderate cleric whose life's work is supposedly advancing reconciliation among different faiths, respect for the families who lost loved one on 9/11 should have made him sensitive to the pain they continue to feel from the tragic loss they suffered from the hands of the Muslim terrorists who killed more than 3,000 of our fellowmen. His on-going obstinacy to fight for this mosque, smacks of triumphalism, a fundamental tradition after what they consider is an undeniable win in the jihad against the West. They like to "rub salt on open wound", and, what better way to do this than to build a mosque a few hundred feet away from ground zero.

Remember what Rauf wants to call this mosque, the Cordoba mosque, until he wised up to our knowledge of the significance of this name. When the Muslims conquered Cordoba, Spain in 711 AD, they converted the church of St. Vincent to the Great Mosque of Cordoba, a monument to their triumphant conquest of this famed Christian city. Rauf wants to name the ground zero mosque "The Cordoba mosque". See any parallelism here? They have another mosque a couple of blocks away from the proposed site of the Cordoba mosque, but it does not symbolize their perceived "win" over the west. Why the need for two mosques when the City council denied the re-building of an Orthodox church destroyed by the terrorist in the 9/11 attacks!!!

There are more than 2,000 mosques in our country. Meanwhile, Christians are not even allowed to bring Bibles to Saudi Arabia, let alone build a church or a temple there!!! Tell me again who is intolerant??? In New York City alone, there are more than 20 mosques, why is there a need to build another one right where New Yorkers consider hallowed ground!!!

Frank Gaffney's (a former Reagan undersecretary of Defense) Center for Security Policy reports that 80% of these mosques are breeding grounds for jihadists and terrorists because they traffic in violent literature, Sharia teachings, jihad and the inevitable concomitant - terrorism. Sadly, his research found that only 20% of these mosques promote peaceful worship and do not push Sharia teachings.

I fear our "well meaning" leaders continue to sacrifice our safety in the altar of political correctness. Clearly, this is another example of it. If only they looked at Rauf for what he truly is and not with rose colored trifocals, they will see that Rauf is a proponent of Sharia law. He continues to provide financial institutions with Sharia compliant indexing of countries where Sharia Compliant Funds are offered. He is part of the Muslim Brotherhood that is pushing for worldwide dominance of the Muslim faith and the justifiable killing of infidels (if they refuse conversion to Islam) under worldwide implementation of Sharia law. Is this what we want in our country?

I pray the progressives on the other side of this debate would stop demagoguing the real objection to this project. Sadly, convinced of the weakness of their argument, they continue to paint the opposition as bigots attempting to deny the Muslims of their rights "under the first amendment." This is Obama's fault. Instead of trying to temper the debate with reasoned arguments, he opted to pervert the true spirit of the first amendment to the Constitution.

I think it was Confucius who said . . . "give a man an inch and he will take a foot". On my last trip to Europe in 2005 (I can no longer travel because, the pain from multiple injuries have become so severe with age!) we witnessed the effect of the Islamization of France, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Spain and other countries. Young Muslims were destroying businesses, burning cars and buildings and rioting in the streets in protest against austere belt-tightening measures taken by the government because they are running out of money. Greece recently went through the same experience. Last week, the Financial Times (of London) reported rioting in 12 countries because of cuts in government subsidies. I fear the same is in our future also. In UC Irvine, Muslims are shouting "death to America", meanwhile, in the Central Coast, in UC Santa Barbara, Latinos inspired by Marxist/Lenninist ideologies from Central America are screaming redistribution of wealth, social justice and more government programs!

The Obama administration and the Democratic congress have spent us into oblivion!!! and they refuse to stop. I was furious to find out that this morning, Obama justified another $50Billion in infrastructure spending (estimated to balloon to $200Billion). Where is the outrage!!! This is nothing more than payback to the SEIU construction workers whose membership dues helped put Obama and the progressive legislators in power. This infrastructure spending is what they called "shovel ready projects" in the $800Billion stimulus bill in 2009!!! If this is not double dipping I don't know what is!!! Besides, there is still in excess of $200Billion in unspent stimulus money they are holding as "slush fund or petty cash fund!!!" The Republicans better not vote for this and I pray the tea partiers are not caught napping at the switch.

My injuries frustrate me to no end because I am restricted to driving 5 miles only. This is why I can not join your Rosary rallies for life and for our country. I am limited to joining you in spirit and praying the Rosary at home. Gone are the days when as a pro-life activist, I joined others in picketing abortion clinics and joining pro-life masses, rosaries and rallies in the wee hours of the morning before going to work. This is the kind of organizing and peaceful activism we need to support the tea partiers and the 912 groups that are trying to reclaim our country.

I pray many more will join in the peaceful organizing and prayerful activism spawned by these groups inspired by a brave soul like Glenn Beck. Let us pray for him and for many more able bodied Americans to join in peacefully opposing the fiscally suicidal policies of our leaders in Washington.

And, I pray you will continue the work that you do for our country.

God bless you, [sender]. I pray for you everyday and I ask that God will inspire you and others to continue soldiering on!!!

For the time being, you have this thread.

The actual meaning of "Cordoba House":

quote:

Professor Newt's Distorted History Lesson
http://gotmedieval.blogspot.com/2010/08/professor-newts-distorted-history.html
So what should modern Christians think when they hear a Muslim use the word "Cordoba"? Well, I know that Newt hasn't been a Catholic for very long now, but maybe his priest ought to direct him to read a little thing called "The Catholic Encyclopedia". Allow me to quote from the 1917 edition (which has the virtue of being in the public domain and easily searchable) and its entry on Cordoba:

"In 786 the Arab caliph, Abd-er Rahman I, began the construction of the great mosque of Cordova, now the cathedral, and compelled many Christians to take part in the preparation of the site and foundations. Though they suffered many vexations, the Christians continued to enjoy freedom of worship, and this tolerant attitude of the ameers seduced not a few Christians from their original allegiance. Both Christians and Arabs co-operated at this time to make Cordova a flourishing city, the elegant refinement of which was unequalled in Europe."

The article then discusses the persecution of the Christians under Abd-ar-Ramman II, which included the martyrdom of St. Eulogius. Then it continues with the rule of those rulers who expanded the Mosque:

"In 962 Abd-er Rahman III was succeeded by his son Al-Hakim. Owing to the peace which the Christians of Cordova then enjoyed [...] the citizens of Cordova, Arabs, Christians, and Jews, enjoyed so high a degree of literary culture that the city was known as the New Athens. From all quarters came students eager to drink at its founts of knowledge. Among the men afterwards famous who studied at Cordova were the scholarly monk Gerbert, destined to sit on the Chair of Peter as Sylvester II (999-1003), the Jewish rabbis Moses and Maimonides†, and the famous Spanish-Arabian commentator on Aristotle, Averroes."

So it's easy to see why a group of Muslims creating a community center in the heart of a majority Christian country in a city known for its large Jewish population might name it "The Cordoba House" They're not, as Gingrich hopes we would believe, discreetly laughing at us because "Cordoba" is some double-secret Islamist code for "conquest"; rather, they're hoping to associate themselves with a particular time in medieval history when the largest library in Western Europe was to be found in Cordoba, a city in which scholars of all three major Abrahamic religions were free to study side-by-side.

The rest is just bigoted bullshit and twisting the first amendment to let it mean what you actually want it to mean, something we're all pretty much familiar with. Freedom of religion? Sure, you're free to be a good white Christian just like the rest of us :smug:.

There is no proof of mosques being a breeding ground for terrorism, and for the ones that do, the figure is nowhere near 80%. It's not even 1%, and muslims are not "destroying businesses" here in Europe any more than the rest of the population is doing. Protests are for the most part done by middle-class white people rather than muslims and/or immigrants. The whole shariah thing is bullshit as well, there is no real demand for it, and nobody's actively pursuing it.

There is no "shariah" against the West except the one declared by the Taliban, which is a group of muslim extremists of around 100 people. The Taliban declared the holy war on muslims that reside in the west as well, because they consider them traitors. Hundreds of American muslims died in the WTC attacks.
Bibles are not banned in Saudi-Arabia. The Bible is considered a holy book by the muslims as well, except they see Jesus as just another prophet of God just like Muhammed.

Not that any of this is going to change any minds :sigh:

Also, another quote from the goldmined LF thread, because I thought it was one of the best entries there:

Some Internet Guy posted:

A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan . One of the courses had a professor who was a vowed atheist and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, “God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I’ll give you exactly 15 minutes.” The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop.

Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, “Here I am God. I’m still waiting.” It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and lifted up his arm to strike him.

At that moment the professor was transformed into a 7-foot grizzly, wreathed in a halo of holy fire. The bear spoke: "Blasphemer thou art, thou thinkst to take the place of God? Those who deny me face eternal fire, but you who knows my work and yet commits the sin of Satan I curse a hundred times over!" The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently picking at his boils. Then Richard Dawkins burst into the room, wielding a copy of The Selfish Gene and crying "Leave that boy alone, you pathetic atavism!" As the holy bear whirled around, terrible light flashing in its eyes, Dawkins shed his mortal form, raised each of his seven horned heads, and hissed. "It'ssss me you want!". And then the Lord and the Antichrist joined in the final battle.

The other students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence.

I think the best thing about Facebook is that it allows you to get into fights with your relatives' friends. She deleted all of her comments, so I can't post them verbatim, but this one woman said something along the lines of "Make that a one way ticket for that idiot and his horse teeth monkey wife!" Someone called her a bigot, and she threw a shitfit about how if you don't know her you can't judge her, and she has several mixed race nieces and nephews so she can't be racist!

Of course you can judge people if you don't know them. Hell, it's the definition of judging. If you say something racist I'm going to think you're a racist. If you don't want to be thought of as a racist, quit saying stupid racist bullshit.

And having <insert minority> friends (or relatives) isn't a "get out of jail free" card to saying whatever the hell you want about <insert minority> people.

It's funny that anybody would actually believe the 2 billion dollar story. It is ridiculously absurd.

Also, it's funny how nobody sending those emails ever says a peep about the 100+ million we spend per day in Afghanistan.

Spending 200 million a day on state visits is government run amok. Spending 200 million a day fighting a war is patriotism.

Also the Islamic community centre one is just :psyduck: It's the equivalent of trying to build a YMCA in Jerusalem and the Islamic world rising up and burning Bibles. gently caress, I'm sure Muslims are aware that there are 20 mosques in NYC. How many of them have swimming pools, basketball courts and other poo poo freely available for the community to use? I also think anyone who opposed it being built because it was too close to ground zero should be legally obligated to expend an equal amount of effort protesting and objecting to any development within a similar distance that isn't a memorial for the fallen. Also they should be mandated to violently riot if the development contains any way of making money from those visiting ground zero.

The funny part is the 3,000 people/500 rooms part was in the DEBUNKING part. In order for the $200 million a day figure to be accurate, it would require 3,000 people and 500 rooms. This is pointed out to show how stupid it is to believe $200 million a day. But instead, she just takes away "IT'S EVEN MOOOOORE CRAZY!!"

Sort of tangentially related but I can't think of any other place to post it.

I happened upon a verse of the day today.

quote:

This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.

The entire chapter is kind of damning, when you consider all those forwards and conservative politicians who scream about armed uprisings against the government because OBAMA! SOCIALISM! and deify the founding fathers and American revolution.

quote:

1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

I love how no one can even rationally imagine what 3,000 people Obama would bring. I mean sure he needs a bit of an entourage. His family, secret service, a few white house staff. I'm sure I'm forgetting others but theres no way it'd reach 3k. But they want to believe Obama would waste their tax dollars so they buy into the number.

This woman is a bizarre caricature of conservatism. If conservative nutjob theories were numbers on a lottery ticket you'd take home the grand prize with her:

quote:

Barack Obama

Philips argues that Barack Obama believes in "revolutionary Marxism" She also believes he has "adopt[ed] the agenda of the Islamists", being "firmly in the Islamists' camp," and of appointing "fifth columnists" for Iran to his administration. She suggests Obama may be secretly a Muslim, writing: "We are entitled to ask precisely when he stopped being a Muslim, and why. Did Obama embrace Christianity as a tactical manoeuvre to get himself elected?". She has suggested the Obama administration seeks "a final solution" for Israel, a comparison which has been seen as comparing Obama to Adolf Hitler. She says the "new distortions supplied by Obama" now "pose the greatest single danger to Israel’s security and existence," a position she regards as "treacherous."

On Britain and Islam

Philips states that Britain is "sleepwalking towards cultural suicide" and "has capitulated to Islamic terror." She added: "Britain at this moment isn’t really sane. It is gripped by a kind of collective derangement... This is no longer England, however. It is Lemmingland." This is part of a deeper "moral sickness of the West", causing it to destroy itself and permit the rise of Islamism. She has written in support of Geert Wilders, who she says is being criminalised in Britain "for telling the truth".

Homosexuality

She opposes civil partnerships for gay people, calling them "toxic," and arguing that "the traditional family [...] has been relentlessly attacked by an alliance of feminists, gay rights activists, divorce lawyers and cultural Marxists who grasped that this was the surest way to destroy Western society." She argued that giving IVF fertility treatment to lesbians would "help destroy our understanding of human identity," and said the opposition to it represents "a fightback to save our civilisation."

Palestinians

Phillips has called the Palestinians "a terrorist population", and argued that while "individual Palestinians may deserve compassion, their cause amounts to Holocaust denial as a national project". She has also claimed that footage apparently showing people injured by Israeli attacks on Palestinian areas has been "fabricated/faked". She says: "To repeat for the nth time: Israel was never the Palestinians' 'homeland'. It was never taken from them 'by force'. On the contrary, they tried to take the Jews' homeland from them by force – and are still trying. It was the Jews alone for whom historically 'Palestine' was ever their national homeland." She later argued: "In fact the Jews and the Jews alone are the rightful heirs to the land, in historical, legal and moral terms."

Evolution

Phillips argues that Darwinism is "merely a theory" and that although many species (including man) have clearly evolved from lower life forms over time, random mutations cannot account for the evolution of the species from the amoeba, and does not explain the origins of life in the first instance. She writes that it "does not explain the irreducible complexity of certain cells for example, which cannot have been formed by simple organisms coming together". She states "Evolution is not a fact. It is a theory with holes in it. [...] Scientists such as the physicist Stephen Hawking still haven’t managed to produce their grand theory of everything that can explain the mysteries of creation. And evolution certainly does not have all the answers. It does not explain human self-consciousness; it does not explain altruism; it does not explain how existence began.

Phillips has also supported the teaching of Intelligent Design, alongside the teaching of evolution, in schools. She believes there is no conflict between Intelligent Design and science and states that "the fact is that Intelligent Design not only does not come out of Creationism but stands against it. This is because Creationism comes out of religion while Intelligent Design comes out of science". "Creationism and Intelligent Design are two completely different ways of looking at the world".

From her Wikipedia page

Emphasis mine, but I literally could've bolded everything. She's just so :psyduck:
Short summary: She thinks Obama is a muslim, evolution is a lie, global warming is a scam and vaccines cause autism. She hates feminists, environmentalists, leftists ("Marxists"), brown people, and especially muslims. Also, everyone is like Hitler: Obama is like Hitler, McCain is like Hitler, environmentalists are like Hitler, Palestinians are like nazi's, the list goes on.

This isn't really a forwarded email, but I think it counts. I was trying to explain the benefits of a socialized health care platform (I won't get into why, but he was claiming it was wealth distribution) and here is my argument (let me know if I'm incorrect in any of my statements, of course):

CornHolio posted:

It is incredibly unfortunate that people think the health care bill is 'wealth redistribution.' I do not agree with the proposed health care plan because I don't think it goes far enough at all. I strongly think we need nothing short of a full-on government-supplied health care system.

Did you know that government-supplied healthcare both works and is affordable in Canada, England, Germany and most other first world countries? And that most if not every first world country has a longer average lifespan and lower infant mortality rates? Now you do!

Did you know that if every American was under the same health plan, that the risk pool would be enormous and that the cost per individual would be incredibly small, a mere fraction of what people are paying for health care? Now you do!

Did you know that under a socialized health care system, every American would have the same access to health care, no matter what income level (in any), what age group, and no matter what pre-existing conditions they have? Now you do!

Did you know that America is currently technically a socialist country because we enjoy such government-provided good as social security, medicare, medicaid, public libraries, public schools, public roads, etc? Now you do!

Did you know that government-supplied health care makes more sense than public libraries or public roads because a government's job is to take care of it's people first and foremost, not necessarily give them roads to drive on or books to read? Now you do!

Did you know that if the government provides health care, it does not have to worry about a profit margin, shareholder opinions, or pocket-lining; And that by eliminating these, not only does one trim the fat off of the system and make it cheaper, but it is no longer in anybody's best interest to find a reason to deny health care to anybody? Now you do!

It is not 'wealth distribution.' It is a country providing for it's people. It has been proven over and over again that 'trickle-down' economics does not work (source: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/12/business/12scene.html) and so the 'big businesses' that currently provide health care have no obligation and will never have any obligation to pass that savings on to the consumer. The free market will not fix itself in this case; rather, it will only become more and more broken and unlike other areas where the free market operates, this involves directly the health of every citizen in this nation.

Imagine for a moment that we had to pay for the air we breathe. Now imagine that privately-held companies provided said air and could charge people whatever they wanted for said air. Well, people can't go without air, so they have to pay up, no matter what. You can regulate it all you want, but the fact of the matter is that as long as the companies are privately held and want a profit, they will find some way to either increase the prices or drop people. Health insurance is something that people cannot live without.

People complained that the system was broken; something had to be done. Now that something has been done, even if it's just a little bit, everybody is crying and want it back to the old way.

And the cost of the health reform has been exaggerated over and over again. Some think costs will actually decrease, while others think it will increase by a very slight amount, almost unnoticeable. I would gladly pay an additional 3% (source: http://www.cfo.com/article.cfm/14500415) if it means that every one of my fellow citizens can also have access to health care rather than going without.

To which he retorts:

angry man posted:

Jake, did you know that govt-supplied healthcare in Canada, England, Germany and most other first world countries sucks? And all of those countries are moving away from govt control because they are saddled with.... deficit! Now you do!

Jake, did you know that if everyone had free and equal access to healthcare, people would live worse than they do right now and would go to doctors for frivolous issues. Doctors would provide inferior care to keep up with the increased demand and decreased pay. Now you do!

Jake, did you know that the USA is technically a capitalist republic of 50 democracies? We share a common infrastructure and security at all levels of community as defined by the respective level of govt. Now you do!

Jake, did you know our govt's job is to secure life, liberty and an individual's pursuit of happiness; and nothing else? The govt should step in to secure equal access to healthcare, not pay for it. And that was the case prior to Obamacare. Now you do!

Jake, did you know all govt is corrupt and extremely inefficient? Politicians say what will get them elected, not what is realistic. Show me one govt program that is sustainable, met initial expectations and doesn't need constant govt intervention to stay afloat. Wait - you can't!

Obamacare is wealth distribution in that is forces people to join regardless of need, applicability or intent. Those who make money have to pay extra for those who don't. Any person is free to not work, become obese, sit at home all day, contribute little to society and yet get more care than others. I say more care because that lifestyle will certainly cause more aliments than many others.

It is a worthless analogy to compare air and highly skilled healthcare workers. Here's one for you - human rights should not compel effort from others. Nor does does irresponsible spending save money or boost economies. Even Europe knows this.

One last thing: Obamacare was never intended to fix the 'system'. Obamacare was intended to expand the brokenness of the system by providing increased access for those who can't or won't pay for healthcare. I suspect every one of your cited articles are bias and worthless. Makes sense - it goes with everything you say. Even China is moving towards capitalism and free markets. Maybe you should try to figure out why?

I don't even know where to begin with this. Can somebody explain it to me so I know how to even retort?

Every single point he makes is wrong. Every single one.

Ask him how those other countries have higher life expectancies and better rankings by the WHO.

Ask him how government is intrinsically corrupt and inefficient, despite Medicare having an overhead cost of 3% and private insurance having an overheard cost of ~20%. Ask him how we can trust our health to be placed above profit.

ahhh this is really annoying trying to deal with each one. I can't keep going without getting a headache.
