Also: Adam scott: movie buff, u2 expert, tv show killer. He owns.

If you're looking for a good, recent Uhh Yeah Dude to listen to, this weeks, 245, was pretty good. Seth threatening to shoot Jonathan so he could try out a new greeting was great.

I many not go down in history but I'll go down on you sister.
I was so excited to see the Pod F. Tompkast Extrasode, but it's only 2 and a half minutes long.

Has anyone else tried to get 300 people on Facebook to agree to see a Paul F. Tompkins if he does a show in your city? I'd love to have him come to Reno. Even with all the casinos, we get the shittiest comics. Chappelle has come once, Chris Rock has been here twice in 6 years, and that's about it. Gaffigan and Attell come pretty regularly, but I'd love to have more of the alternative guys coming here. I'm sick of driving all the way to Sacremento to see a decent show.

I've listened to every UYD episode and I'm a huge proponent of starting from Episode 1. Actually they posted the pilot (episode 0?) a few months ago which was interesting, so you could even start with that.

I actually started at around 130, then cut over to YLNT and listened to all of that. Once I had gotten used to podcasting in general I went back to UYD, started at the beginning and settled in. It's a beautiful ride (to quote Dewey Cox), though it's disappointing to realize that UYD and YLNT are the top of the heap and I've wolfed them all down already.

There's an early golden age, from around eps 30-90. That's when they have This Week In Florida, Jahnathan's Poetry and such. There's also a truly mind bending segment where Jah calls his dad and they talk about an incident from the past. I like the looser, less polished feel of the early episodes. Not that super polished now, mind you.

Note to foreign listeners: Americans do not talk like UYD. They're game is not that on point; mostly they're a bunch of peeds who like to bone down, on the reg, yo. But Jahnathan minus the ultra specific slang does sound like a perfect Californian.

I worked my rear end off to get him to come to Vancouver, and he just did a show this past weekend. He's looking for nice theatres to play, and I can't think of any in Reno that aren't in the Casinos which I doubt he'd be willing to perform in. Granted, I haven't been to Reno in a few years but I can't recall any off the top of my head.

In any case, Sacramento already has a group that's going strong.

I just started listening to the Lavender Hour with Natasha Leggero and Duncan Trussell, mainly because I enjoyed Natasha on eps of CDR and she was really hot on Last Comic Standing, but this show is really . . .meh. I think it's because I can't believe she dates Duncan Trussel and his annoying voice.

Also, the most recent WTF with Paul Scheer is a classic example of how big of a dickweed Maron can be to people he doesn't really know. I mean I love Maron and think WTF is right up there with CDR and NNF at the top of the heap, but he's obviously and self admittedly a huge dick. Throughout the interview Maron constantly throws these minor digs at Scheer (when Scheer mentions famous comedians coming in to work on Human Giant, Maron asks, "Why did they come in? Because they liked you or. . .") and Scheer just takes it all in stride. Which contrasts with recent Jessi Klein interview where he's nice to her pretty much the whole time.

Yeah, I like Maron and WTF/CDR/NNF/PFT are my holy quad of podcasting but he seemed really dismissive of Human Giant in a way that seemed uncalled for by Paul's pretty open and friendly demeanour. He revisited it with a semi-apology for his comment about how that "wasn't his bag" (paraphrasing), but it was definitely a moment that stuck out.

The thing about Maron though is he will be the first person to admit that he is a flawed person that dislikes people for his own selfish non reasons. I am sure there will be a thing next show where Maron will apologize for the way he treated Scheer.

Are we really going to start this kinda fanboyism and "making GBS threads on" now? I wasn't going to respond initially, but it's happened twice on the same page.

No, I'm not a fan of anything, that'd be ridiculous. WTF just seems to be a really popular podcast that a lot of people are into so I figured I might be "missing" something if that makes sense. Is what I described generally that guy's shtick?

The first few minutes aren't the best part - you need to listen to some of the interviews he gives to see if this is your thing at all. Try Carlos Mencia (and the one immediately after it), Dane Cook, Ira Glass, and Judd Apatow. I'm sure more suggestions will follow.

Once I _got_ Marc via the interviews, the whole thing falls into place around those interviews.

edit: VVV Louis CK owned too, put those ahead of Apatow.

I completely understand how you'd get that impression. The first time I listened to him was because he had Judd Apatow on and I couldn't get a hold on whether he annoyed me or not. Then I listened to the fantastic Louis CK interview and I got a better feeling for him. Now I'm going back and listening to the archives.

I think you need to listen to a few to really decided whether you like his style or not. His interviews are the meat of the podcast and you learn to like him because of them. But I wouldn't be surprised if after you listen to a few you still don't like them. I can see where his personality would get on the nerves of some people.

I agree. Didn't see any anger towards Scheer, other than Maron's usual attitude. They seemed to get along pretty well. I was expecting lots of awkwardness from what you guys were saying, but it was a fun episode.

EDIT: And yeah, it took a while for me to get into WTF. I wasn't a regular listener, just when guests I liked showed up. Marc annoyed me and I didn't like the talking before the interviews. Then one day, probably during the Mencia stuff, it just clicked. I started to see that it wasn't just an interview show, but really about Marc as well. Now, I'm a fervent subscriber. But, his style definitely takes a few episodes to get.

To reference the Ira Glass interview again he quotes Maron in saying something like the podcast is Maron dealing with his poo poo through interviews and how he gets something out of each person. I don't know I really like the idea of that. Once I started listening to it in that mindset I grew to like it a lot more.

While Maron's interviews are by far the meal ticket of WTF, he does have a few preambles that are quite fun.

I can't remember the numbers, so if someone could help me out that'd be great, but his Depressed Yoga Instructor bit is hilarious, his Psychiatric Check-List was very fun, and when he reads fan E-Mails before Live WTFs, they're usually really entertaining.
