Unfortunately, the spectrals look right on the V2 I have (i.e. not obviously a transcode), but I'm hoping for the best when I pick up the retail disc Tuesday. I didn't notice the clipping as much on the G.O.O.D. Friday releases, but again it's really not limiting my enjoyment of the record at all.

I have to say that while I enjoy the album for what it is, I'm disappointed Kanye has morphed into a generic rap icon. To me, Kanye used to be a symbol for alternative hip hop and that you can get away with talking to things that people can actually relate to such as excess and a need to spend, or people you respect, or appreciating life, or the monotony that is a 9-5 job. Here, he has officially gravitated towards being a generic rap icon who merely flexes his muscle more so than his brain. The production is fantastic, but what's left is an awfully vapid and lifeless album that really doesn't reach out and tell me about well, anything, besides Kanye and his ego. And I can get that from any other rapper. For the record, I'm in the huge minority that believes that 808s is Kanye's best album on par with College Dropout. Aside from Robocop, which sucks, I really think that the bulk of the album is an interesting and introspective look at the man and his heart and what he values. I know it's not a rap album, but that's partially why I like it so much. These days I'm in a "rap sucks balls" form of mind. The production is so good and well put together though, that I'm almost willing to ignore the lovely lyrics. It's a well put together album, but it's missing heart. The "lyrics" on MBDTF reach introspective levels equaling or surpassing those on any of his records, including 808's. There's just also a lot more jokes and bravado thrown in there again because he's back on top of his own poo poo. It's not quite as straightforward soul-searching like his approach to 808's allowed for, but pay attention a little bit longer to Fantasy and you'll start to get it. Kid Cudi wrote half the songs on 808s? The more you know. I apologize Cudi! My only exposure to Cudi is Man on the Moon and his guest appearances in various tracks. So it's easy for me to dismiss him as another no talent overrated hack rapper. I find that happens with me and rap, a lot.

I really think this album is a lot more introspective than people give it credit for. Hell, even the lead single Power is more than it seems if you listen to it. Ego doesn't discount introspectiveness. Like how can you deny the introspectiveness of Power, loving thundering out of the gates with lines like "Screams from the haters got a nice ring to it/I guess every superhero needs his theme music", to the who are you trying to convince "At the end of the day goddamnit I'm killing this poo poo/I know drat well ya'll feeling this poo poo/I don't need your pussy bitch I'm on my own dick" To like two lines later having the line "I got the power make your life so exciting" and have "So exciting" gradually morph into something more resembling the word "suicide" then have a bridge "This would be a beautiful death/jumping out the window" You say that ego can't be introspective, he knows he has loving issues with that. If he played his cards wrong last year it would have been a huge blow to his career. He's given interviews saying he thought about suicide. Of course he's going to rap about getting hosed up, having a huge ego, etc. The difference between kanye and generic rap is other rappers will be like YEAH hosed THIS BITCH NOW SHE'S GONE gently caress YOU BITCH THANK YOU BASED GOD or something, whereas Kanye will do a song more like Blame Game or Hell of a Life, where you just wonder where the gently caress he is coming from and how hosed up his relationships were.

Yeah the album is incredible and the critical accalaim is unanimous, but you don't see Sufjan Stevens going gold in the first week. I'm thinking 400k at best.

The lyrics on this album are absolute bunk, I've decided. The best line on the whole album is, "what is a black Beatle, a roach?" And that line, despite being racially charged, isn't controversial or interesting. I listened to this album, and there's not a single song I enjoyed. It's all forgettable poo poo, in my opinion. I think I've flip-flopped for the last time. Do kids listen to him anymore? I don't think even they would like it. I feel bad for hip hop, I really do. Good job Roc Nation. If Jay Electronica and J. Cole turn out to be busts and Nas doesn't go hard with Lost Tapes 2 it will be a sad day for hip hop. Kanye West can't rap. The best verse was Raekwon's, and that's probably not saying much.

I bought the CD/DVD version earlier today, and while the packaging is really nice, I'm pretty upset that the artwork on the cover cards and CD label is censored. Even though the phoenix painting isn't on the cover, it's still censored anyways? It's kind if funny that you can show someone's head impaled on a sword but not a crude painting of a breast.

I think if Rick Ross did something more like his opening verse from Aston Martin Music, it would have fit better into DIAND. As it is, Kanye raps about one thing and then Ross does the "I'm a drug dealer with a fast car" verse. Originally I thought it fit well, but the more I listen to it the more I find myself skipping Ross' verse. This is a fantastic album, I'm actually going to join the club and go buy the CD tomorrow.
