I'm currently looking for mix reccomendations for a holiday, I'm going with 5 friends to bali for http://www.paradisefestival.com.au/ and we are staying in a villa with an ipod dock, so we will pretty much just have mix's on shuffle. I need something thats really dancefloor dnb and a few good liquid mixes and a could of techy. I already have the Danny Byrd and Netsky essential mix, as well as DJ Marky at Pitch from a few weeks ago and Nightlife 5. Can anyone reccomend some stuff in that vein as well as some stuff like Bukem, Calibre, Total Science, etc.

In that vein, you can't really go wrong with any of the Logical Progression mixes on Good Looking. The 3rd one in that series is my personal favorite.

Hey, bro, fade into the shade! You're bad news - obituary column style!
I've been getting back into D&B in a big way recently and am on the lookout for some recomendations from you guys!

I'm a fan of the darker stuff, scary movie quotes & dirty reese basslines make me happy.

My playlist largely compromises of stuff by Unknown Error, Limewax, Evol Intent, Resonant Evil, Technical Itch and Dieselboy. I'm also a huge fan on the Moving Shadow label.

Any artists you could suggest would be greatly appreciated.

Unknown Error is now Apex, Evol Intent is too busy with side projects, Limewax supposedly has a new album coming soon, Renegade Hardware had a good release recently (chrix can tell you about it). Check out the Barcode Filthcast podcasts if you haven't already. Seems like you'd enjoy all the old Therapy Sessions mix cd's and artists also.

Edit: Yeah, sorry wrong label. Fixed.

Well, Moving Shadow hasn't put out any tunes since 2005/2006. I'm guessing you mean Renegade Hardware, who recently put out an full compilation album (after about 4 years of nothing) called Last of a Dying Breed. Lots of great dark, old school vibes on that one.

IIRC, UE started out as 2 guys. I think the other guy may still do stuff as UE every once in a while. I can't remember though, and I haven't seen the UE name on any releases in a while so he might also be doing stuff under a different alias.

Yeah apex is a ridiculously talented producer. I love how his liquid tunes always have a dark edge to them and his darker tunes usually have some sort of liquid element. heres some of his newer unreleased stuff:

YES YES YES!! Nice dark oldschool bizness gwan!

Rockwell did a Shogun Audio thing on Rinse.FM last night (it's up in their podcasts). It was....interesting, to say the least. He started out with a Mount Kimbie track and a "funky house" tune he made (not sure if it's under a different alias or even going to see the light of day). Then after a few UK Funky tracks and then it got odd. He played 3 back to back Ghostface Killa songs, it was very odd. After that a couple of grime tunes a chill tune and then dnb finally. A heads up, if you only want to hear the dnb tunes on the podcast skip ahead an hour. It was alright overall I suppose, but not what I was expecting. I could have gone without the Ghostface and Grime tunes, but only because Teddy was next.

Years ago, I played a show with Hive headlining. I ended my set with "This Is L.A.". The DJ after me decided that he'd queue up his first record, then attempt to lift the needle off of mine mid-song. Imagine his surprise when he came away from the experience with a wounded ego and a sore hand; I slapped it as if he was reaching for a self-destruct button.

Great mix; really encapsulates the different sounds of that time. Also, props for including Emotif, No-U-Turn, and Droppin' Science; those labels had some great gems.

Yea, I started out the mix with This Is LA because I moved from Philly to LA (with Sac, San Fran, and San Diego as temporary stops in between - granted all 3 of those happened within 1 year, but still) so I thought it was only appropriate to open with that. Originally I was going to start the mix with the Urban Takeover rmx of "Jungle Brother" by the Jungle Brothers, but decided against it last minute. I also ended with Ultrasonic Sound because it was the first drum and bass song I ever heard, and actually got me into the genre to begin with.

I have a ton of other mixes up as well:
http://www.1217design.com/blog
and I've been uploading more and more of my older mixes here:
http://www.mixcloud.com/djHelix/

I've got over 50-60 mixes that I've done that I'm going to be uploading to the mixcloud site - most of which were all done back between 2003 and 2008, and the large majority of which were all vinyl.

Check em out when you guys get a chance and let me know what you think.

Old Town Road to EGOT

I was watching some dubstep video on YouTube the other day and there was a Black Sun Empire song in the related section that I hadn't heard of, so I checked it out and it was a dubstep track. At first I thought they were remixing somebody, but then I found out that they changed their style.

It sounds good, though. I hadn't listened to them in a while and it was cool to see that they were doing something fresh.

They have been throwing a lot of Drumstep out lately too. I'm not familiar at all with Crissy Criss & Youngman, but they released a minimix of their new album that has some pretty cool drumstep tracks in it. One called Kick Snare even that I had to laugh at.
