I get the feeling that Reynardine is sort of the middle ground between Coyote's calculated chaos, and Yserngrim's excessively proud duty.

The first time he sees Annie he comments on the toy, he knows Eglamore is watching and can/will block him, and he loudly yells about how he's been foiled and how he's going to die as he quietly backs into a toy that no one knows he can possess. He basically acts like a super villain because that's what's expected of him, then quietly inserts himself somewhere where he can watch over and protect her. The whole "being her slave" bit was something he didn't predict.

Not only this, but Renard acts shocked whenever Annie mentions the attempt to kill her, and Coyote himself doesn't believe that was what was going on there. Renard probably put himself in there to watch over Annie out of respect for Surma, feeling he owed her that much since he couldn't save her.

I dunno, maybe she is a reincarnation/pheonix rebirth deal going on or what have you, but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Didn't Surma pass away when Anny was 11 or 12 or something? Like right before she came Gunnerkrigg. So my theory after reading the last strip, is that it was Antimony that was dying, and not her mother. Her mom was gradually growing weaker and weaker because she was transfering her own life to Anny to keep her going/cure her. Meanwhile, Anthony is working his rear end off to save Antimony. They told her Surma was dying and Anthony was trying to find the cure that would save her life so she wouldn't feel needlessly guilty, or worry for her life (and it would be true in a way.) If any of that's true it could also explain where Anny's dad has been. He never really had much faith in that etheric stuff, so he's continuing to find a cure for the mystery illness just in case. Or, worst case scenario, Surma gave her life as a stalling tactic to give Anthony more time to find the cure, cause she's still suffering from whatever. All of that is based on what little we know and is therefore all wrong.

Add this to the fact that Anthony was always kind of distant with Annie and that Annie's only memory of her father is as a faceless figure, it seems a lot like Anthony just couldn't get over Annie's involvement in Surma's death and ran away. I'd expect this is certainly Rey's assessment, and it explains a lot of how Rey has been acting - it's mostly his attempt to prove he is better than Anthony.

Yeah, Renard's whole "Even I would have been better than that man" seems to imply he thinks Anthony dropped Annie because she indirectly killed Surma, and he wouldn't have done the same thing. Whether this is actually why Anthony left Annie to her own devices is obviously unanswered, but Renard clearly thinks it is and I wouldn't doubt that Annie is going to jump to the same conclusion now that she knows the truth.

Anthony left because it's his own lover in his daughter's body. That would lead to alot of many confusing feelings and arkward situations. Imagine if you will, one night, after too many drinks, he stumbled in his daughter's room... Yeah, that's not going anywhere good at all. It make loads of sense why he's staying far away as possible in this point.

We dont know exactly what happened but I can guarantee you it's not so literal as some people are making it out to be.

Even though it was heartbreaking, I was a little glad to see Annie react the way she did and say all those cruel things to Reynardine. One thing I've been wanting to see is some flaws in Annie, since she seems like an almost infallible character most of the time. I think it added a lot of depth to her character, but it was still painful.

I'm hoping she gets her screaming at Anja done with, has her breakdown, and Anja tells it like it was. Surma totally never seemed bummed out about what was happening. The chapter should have happy end, but I also wouldn't be surprised if she did run to Coyote. Dunno how accepting of Anja's words Annie will be, after all.

I'm looking at Annie's blinker symbol now, and it does seem rather bird-like... Wings with an alchemical symbol in the center. The circle with a dot inside refers to the Sun and/or gold.
