In that regard I love Richard Herring's shows too due to it being a different kind of humour, aside from the usual observational standup. My go-to recommendation is (perhaps predictably) Simon Munnery. He's collaborated with Stewart Lee on stuff in the past and is an absolute joy to behold most of the time. His stye is a long way from Lee's monotonous repetition but I love them both. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga-LLG0HS0w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_fFx-Nq1GM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h676I2T0F-8

I don't watch Hollyoaks, but sometimes it gets left on while I'm doing stuff, and the episode that's just finishing now is actually not completely poo poo. Except for the cheesy, unnecessary flashback-voiceover just now.

Adam Bloom was on TV a lot in the mid 90s on Stand Up shows, like Live At Jongleurs. I really liked him, but having seen him a lot he's basically still doing the same material. He was on Mock the Week and he told jokes that I'd already heard - and I hadn't seen him for about a decade.

Except for the cheesy, unnecessary flashback-voiceover just now. I turn it on occasionally to see how far the writers can go when changing a character. For example, the nice Geordie teacher suddenly turned into a violent racist who wanted to stop an interracial marriage, in a transition that was literally overnight. Loretta turned from a nice former stripper who wants to leave her past behind and fall in love, to being a possessive psychopath, all in the course of a week. A nice example of original writing is the man who arrived in Hollyoaks, claimed he was an alien, and got Elliot a job at NASA. But it is impressive how many different styles they use for the opening scenes. It's a shame the show turns into a clusterfuck after 40 seconds.

I've actually seen Munnery twice this year, and met him. The first was above a pub where he did a sub 15 minute set. They were the same jokes I saw him roll out at the Stewart Lee gig, but they just did not work outside the context of a full live performance, and it don't go over too well with the small crowd. I'd written him off until his set at Vegetable Stew. Idioteque Dance, if you haven't seen Lee on the Vegetable Stew tour (I believe it's now on in Leicester Square for 2 months) you should really go, especially as Munnery should still be the support. As mentioned numerous times, Daniel Kitson is another clever comedian not pandering to the Michael McIntyre crowd. Be quick, as he sells out straight away. Doug Stanhope is the complete opposite of Lee in terms of delivery, choosing to ramble in whatever direction he feels, rather than meticulously stick to the arrangement of each word, but has a similar mindset. You can get one of his dvds for a few quid on amazon. I don't think I like anyone as much as Stewart Lee though. "it's been 97 years since a horse trampled a woman to death in the name of democracy" Tim Key is funny in videos, but the short stand up I saw of his felt unprepared. He's a nice guy though. Doug Stanhope is playing some dates in the UK next year. I saw him several years ago at what I think was his first UK gig, in Leicester. I sat in the front row, and he starred intensely at me as he ranted his "gently caress someone uglier than you" bit. Some random girl opened the door to the room halfway through, and shouted an anti-war slogan (it was the day of the massiev anti-Iraq war march in london) and he riffed on that in a really funny way.

Hollyoaks is incredible. Warren died in a fire, but actually he didn't, it was someone else's horribly charred body and Warren escaped. And Theresa saw the whole thing. This happened months ago and she just hasn't mentioned it til now. Some blackmail nonsense. Speaking of Theresa, she slept with her cousin Carmel's fiance, and got pregnant. Said fiance also had an affair with Mercedes, Carmel's sister. Then Theresa shot him dead. Carmel is now looking after Theresa's baby. Mercedes's husband died recently, but no one really seems to care all that much. A 12-year-old is pregnant by another 12-year-old. A boy found out that his best mate is actually his half brother because his dad has been living a double life with two families. There's a girl who wants to be a boy. She's going around kissing other boys while dressed as a boy. Dom set fire to his restaurant because Bart told him he'd found kiddy porn on his laptop. Steph, who had terminal cancer, died in the fire (she rescued some kids then refused to come out of the house even though her husband was at the window pleading with her to get out), and Malachy (Mercedes's husband mentioned above) got blown up, or something. Now Dom's in jail. Brendan, the moustache-twirling villain of the piece, has been fooling around with Ste. Now Ste used to date Amy and had a kid with her, but then he smacked her around a bit so that ended. Since then he's been sleeping with lots of girls (including Amy again for a bit). Now he's gay. Not bisexual, as you might think considering his womanising past, he's gay. With Brendan. Who's denying it. Of course. Half the cast got written out a little while back, and they brought in a whole bunch of new people who really can't act. Along with them came these amazing storylines. It's loving batshit. Goddamn highlight of my day.

Always had a bit of a soft spot for the completely mental Lucy/Rob storyline: wikipedia posted:After being involved in the accident that caused the death of Dermot, Lucy soon wised up to Rob, and even shopped him to the police. It was Lucy and Kurt’s role in seeking revenge that caused Rob to be thrown off a car park roof by his drug dealers. Unbeknown to Lucy and Kurt, this marked the beginning of his vendetta against the Bensons – an obsession that would continue throughout his life. With Rob well and truly out of her life, though, Lucy returned to normal. She started a band with Carol Groves and Bazz FM and was happy that things seemed to be going her way. That rather dry summary fails to capture how completely batshit the entire plot was, with Rob being portrayed as essentially a psychotic killer, turning the entire thing into a kind of silence of the lambs thriller for episodes at a time. The Lewis/Ruth saga which culmintaed with him beating her half to death while on a massive alcohol fueled bender then trying to kill himself with paracetamol, failing, changing his mind then dying anyway of slow painful liver failure from the pills was also a HOOT.

Yeah, Dom was set up so became stressed and upset, so much so that he decided to help Tony out by burning the restaurant down, but he didn't know Tony had gas cylinders in the kitchen. Tony was arrested on suspicion of starting the fire, but Dom came forward and admitted he did it, Tony was freed, now Tony is mad at Bart for setting Dom up. Everyone is pressuring Bart to turn himself in, but he ran away. Warren Fox is back on the prowl, being evil for literally no reason.

The most insane I remember Hollyoaks being was when Jacks step daughter started having an affair with her twin brother before realising who it was. It was a whole wek of more and more ridiculous reveals of people not being biologically related or being related but not knowing. It's almost definitely got more ridiculous since but that was the pinacle for me. The funniest thing was the helpline voice over guy at the end saying 'if you have been affected by incest and family breakdown and finding out your brother is actually your cousin please call our help line for free confidential advice'. I bet it was just a shortcut to the Jeremy Kyle show line

"If you have been affected by any of the issues raised in tonight's Eastenders, please call 0800 123 456 for free confidential advice". Sure it's usually after an episode about something legitimately nasty and widespread like suicide or mental illness or domestic abuse or whatever, but sometimes you wonder if there's someone at home going "poo poo, I DID get raped, kill my rapist then have my husband fall off a roof to his death while running from the police, better call that number!"

One of my favourite plots was when Beth cheated on Gilly with Rhys, who was actually her brother. Then she died in a car crash. I also liked when Lydia sabotaged a parachute, meaning to kill Zoe, but instead causing Sarah to fall to her horrible death. That was Hollyoaks Later, though.

Unable to accept her death, he lived with her body and continued to act as if she were still alive, doing her dry cleaning and cooking her meals. David's only form of comfort during this time was a recurring hallucination of Gordon Cunningham, who would offer advice and try to convince Bombhead to accept what had happened and ask his friends for help David's mother's body was eventually discovered by his friend Lee. Lee had gone round to the house thinking it would be empty so he could have sex with his friend Stacey Foxx. Stacey sat down on Mrs Burke's body and screamed.
