The study of railways, or a general interest in them as a hobby, is sometimes known as ferroequinology (literally, "study of iron horses"). The term is rarely used by non-railfans.

Calling back to Latin to determine what the "correct" spelling of the word for "Woman who flies an aircraft" is sort of , just saying.

This fetishistic appeal to Latin is literally where we get the prohibition on split infinitives (along with all the baggage that the whole "Victorian England as the New Rome" mindset carries with it). It's not a great pedigree, but keep on keeping on I guess? v:shobon:v

this is prolly the worst written article

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Draper

quote:

While Draper was driving around his Volkswagen Microbus to test a pirate radio transmitter, he broadcast a telephone number to listeners as feedback to gauge his station's reception. A callback from a "Denny" (identified in the Discovery Channel documentary about Hacking as Denny Teresi[1]) resulted in a meeting with the blind kids and caused him to blunder into the world of the phone phreaks. They wanted him to build a multifrequency tone generator (the blue box) to gain easier entry into the AT&T system which was controlled by tones. Then they wouldn't have to use the organ and cassette recorder to get free calls.

nothing in this part is linked except volkswagen, discovery channel and whistle and leaves no clue what the poo poo about the organ and 'blind kids.'

seriously the notion of taking something like that and linking to the actual page of the group being referred to as 'blind kids' must be verboten on wiki

For good reasons, Wikipedia doesn't like mystery meat links to random web sites; if they're useful references they get put in as either citations or in the external links section.

Wikipedia also doesn't like "creative" links to other articles. You shouldn't have to read the status bar to guess what page you're gonna end up at.

that's dumb as hell when you're linking something that should by rights explain what the linked phrase means

oh, a page explaining what a human child is, or the concept of blindness. awesome, thanks wikipedia, that's really answered the question posed by that sentence.
