SUBFRIES posted:It's a dubstep track, runs around 140 BPM. Really fun to cut in during slower tempo sets. First time I heard it, it was during a Plastician set and just got people crazy. There's a drumstep version which is a refix of the 140 version aswell I think mate.

Hey there. Drum n bass albums I already have are: Pendulum - All three albums (Okay I know some of them aren't exactly drum n bass) Noisia - Split the Atom Shapeshifter - The System is a Vampire What should I be looking at now? I'm thinking Logistics, Friction, DJ Fresh and Cyantific. I like the hard and fast sort of stuff by Pendulum like Immunize, Slam and Through The Loop so is this the 'dirty' style recommended in the OP or not?

Cyantific's Ghetto Blaster is a good album. The Upbeats' Big Skeleton is another good, recent, album.

So Metrik released The Departure EP today on Viper Recordings. It's not out til Dec. 6 everywhere else though. Pandadnb's got a promo mix of his up now though that I am loving so far. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjYaRosxiUs&feature=recentu Got a remix of "Niton (The Reason)" by Eric Prydz to start it out. I was a big fan of Sigma's version, and Metrik's is just as awesome. I think this might be a song to watch in the EDM scene soon, just as Pjanoo and Call on Me were. The vocalist on that track, Jan Burton, also does vocals for a couple tracks on The Departure EP. Everything is sounding awesome so far.

If any of you like:
Check out the new Siren album 'Broken Silence': https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/detail/295647/Broken%20Silence Siren is one of the guys from V.C. (can't remember which), and Ruckspin from U.P. Originally they were going to do a V.C. & U.P. album and call it Universal Circle or something like that, but then changed the name to Siren, which I wasn't aware of and the Siren track on the Nightlife 5 mix was one of my favorites, so it was a nice surprise when I found out about this.

zeldadude posted:Hey guys more dnb from your pal, Navi! I like this a lot more than your last one (Like a Kite). Much more inventive. The one thing I will say - and this goes for your production as a whole actually, not just this track - is work on your drums. It's hard to describe but they really stand out as quite amateurish sounding sitting next to your really rather good production in the other areas. The snares are harsh and synthetic, and the programming is not very interesting. Personally being a massive d&b nerd, it's important for me for the drums to actually have a vibe of their own, not just carry the beat. It's a hard skill but it can really make the difference between decent and great. For example, these tracks have drums that, while totally different and mostly would not fit in your track at all, have been tailored to really suit the vibe of the track. It's incredibly hard to put your finger on it and it's even harder to put down in words but hopefully you understand what I mean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4nQvhCgRRE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLZWw239vBw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2SQKJQDlRo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pl3UIvvOCi4

It's incredibly hard to put your finger on it and it's even harder to put down in words but hopefully you understand what I mean. To add to this, the word tailoring fits really nicely because that's exactly what you need to do. Listen to your track without the drums and do what it takes to really get a feel for the shape of it. Your drums right now are a frame for the music and while drums aren't really considered an instrument in the same regards as synths are, they still contribute or take away from the track depending on what you did with them. Feel the spots where the track builds or talks or releases and adjust the drums accordingly. Most people won't notice if drums aren't perfect but if they are, it really adds something that makes people want to come back to the track. Cut the drums in certain places or break the beat. Imagine the drums as your background color for your painting. Do you really want it to be one solid color? Subtle changes make all the difference in the world. By using different "hues" or "shades" you can draw attention to certain parts. Keep the intensity. I think the biggest piece of advice I can offer is that your personality and ideas shape the song. The drums don't really seem like they've seen that same love. Give them some attention, inject yourself into it and you'll have something unique that people will want to listen to.

Expect his name to pop up on a few big labels in 2011. I can't mention names just yet, but we chatted last week and he filled me in on stuff. Always a trip to go "so what's your next goal, a release on [insert big name label]?" and getting "welllllll, funny you asked that." If I can get a night at a local club on December 26th, might do a spur of the moment thing with him headlining, while he's home for the holidays.

Glad that Camo & Crooked got some much deserved recognition. I still am not too keen on Noisia getting Best Producer but I haven't got around to Split the Atom yet I guess. Also, Gold Dust beat Iron Heart for best video. How does anybody even like that song, much less the video.

My fave Syncopix track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8i_oiCV5bM Reminds me very similar to a recent Culture Shock track too i bet they would mix in well together, Smoothie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQrFNGWRhd4 Just that same kind of rolling beat feels similar or is it just me? I think they are both awesome either way. Not to play all the way through certainly as they certainly don't have amazing drops or anything but still nice tracks.
