FuriousGeorge posted:I always enjoy the awkwardness that ensues when Adam Carolla goes off about Mexicans or whatever, especially when he's on someone else's show. Since he's usually in the presence of other comedians (who are generally pretty liberal) the sense of "hmm, this guy's not trying to be edgy or ironically racist, he's just actually racist" is palpable. There are a couple of topics where Carolla gets amped up and goes past the Sam Kinison screaming and it's just pure anger and rage, and there's nothing funny or entertaining about it. It's typically the point where any guests or co-hosts shut up and everyone--listeners included--desperately wants for there to be a new subject of discussion. Personally I find it very uncomfortable, and tend to skip ahead 15 minutes or so. It's not that I'm offended, it's more that it's not funny and it comes off as just a bitter and misdirected screed for whatever the hell is bothering him. Lisa Lampanelli can say far worse stuff but it's played off with a laugh. Tons of comics make jokes about Latinos and some are funny, some are appropriate, some are neither, but typically the flow moves with the audience or the co-hosts. With Adam it just becomes one angry dude screaming into a microphone. Hearing him go on a race/gender-tinged rampage about airport ticket agents makes you yearn for the days of "What's the deal with airline peanuts?"

He went off on the progressive tax scale when David Cross was a guest one time. David said he didn't mention paying extra taxes since he was doing so well. You could just hear David nodding until Adam was done ranting.

It'll be killer (ugh why am I using a late 90's frat-boy word?) when they have some kick-rear end guests on, that's for sure.

And that's ok because that's what Marc was going for. As for "I'm so loving cool listen to all my cool stories", he really does have some cool loving stories. 7-11. I didn't expect to enjoy, but found it thoroughly enjoyable. I don't know why, but maybe the fact that Drew Doerge just has an amazing ability to imitate a female Hollywood dragon. I couldn't catch all the references he made to other actress or even who he was imitating, but the sheer volume of them was particularly impressive. I'm attracted to that kind of talent, I guess. Just listened to Mike DeStefano's interview with Marc Maron. Pretty powerful stuff, and I remember hearing some of his stories on the Moth. Definitely worth checking out.

Somehow got through that last Lou Reads the Internet - thank gently caress it's not a video podcast. No skipping backwards for me on that one, which was another positive. I loved the forum names in that one, like 'boycunt' and 'submissive human being'. On Adam Carolla: I used to really try to catch his episodes every single day, but ever since they started with the stupid sound effects and I started getting tired of his repeated rants, I only listen to the shows with certain guests. Kieth and the Girl is kind of the same every day but it's not always about Keith at least. I've started listening to a couple of the other Smodcast group shows instead of the original Smodcast because that's gotten very same-y as well, which was why I stopped listening to it a long long time ago.

Jesus poo poo, the Podcast Eating Contest, not only is your belching horrible and stupid, but then you preface an episode by saying you WON'T be doing it, and then keep doing it? Now I just look stupid, Podcast Eating Contest, because I believed you. You are funny, but because I cannot listen to your show without almost barfing, your feed is being removed. Sorry.

I'm still giving them a little while before removing the feed, but I'm pretty close. A PRIZED MULE, I know you and the dudes are cool with the belching, but they just lost a subscriber. I bet there's a ton of others who feel the same way. I've definitely stopped recommending it especially after the last episode. There's one thing about free podcasts that I have a bit of a problem with and it's mostly not listening to feedback or doing the opposite of what the negative feedback is telling you. The Pod F.Tompkast is guilty of this too. I'm willing to bet top dollar that PFT had tons of feedback saying the Jen Kirkman calls are cool, but can we get someone else? Nope, just her! I INTENDED FOR THIS SO DEAL IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT! It's a weird conundrum; I love most of the material that this particular person or people are giving me for free, but there's a portion of the program that is turning me off because, even after tolerating it for x amount of episodes, it keeps popping up. At least with the Tompkast, get "extrasodes" now in between, but it really doesn't make up much for basically listening to the same episode every month. Similarly with the belching. It was funny when it started a little, but with all the negative feedback, one would assume they would restrain from doing it, not the opposite. /rant

I've definitely stopped recommending it especially after the last episode. Agreed. Burping is like garlic; it's brilliant when used sparingly. I was enduring my usual hangover when I gave Podcast Eating Contest another try and was nauseated by the foamy beer burps and I had to shut it off. That's literally my only problem with the show. Since I've heard that they don't care about the feedback asking them to stop belching into the mic like 13 year olds I'm not listening to it again until they've cut that poo poo out. That said, the Filmdrunk Frotcast, DLM, CDR and UYD had good episodes this week. Bob Ducca on CDR was a real highlight. I'd like to mention something that's been bothering me about a couple other podcasts that I'm getting ready to cut off my weekly listening schedule. Chris Hardwick of The Nerdist Podcast is loving insufferable. When he isn't affecting a lame pseudo-ironic "announcer" accent (He's been doing it since loving Singled Out on MTV.), he's fellating his guests at every opportunity. He'll wonder aloud why his career never took off and I'm going to take a wild shot in the dark and say it's because he isn't loving funny. That said, it's a decent show otherwise-he gets interesting guests and the runtime is good. Maybe he'd do better as a producer than someone in front of the mic. To the Kevin Pollack chat show-Laura Prepon was the most grating, entitled, high-on-her-own-farts Hollywood idiot I've heard speak in a long while. Please stick with notable actors of stage and screen with enough experience under their belt for me to give a fraction of a poo poo. Tell Sam Levine to put a sock in it and also your girlfriend comes off as stupid. And last, to the Adam Corrolla podcast-it's poo poo. He was a smug dick on Loveline. He was a stilted charisma-devoid rear end in a top hat on The Man Show(and that's saying something). He's an ignorant cockbag on his podcast. gently caress Adam Corrolla. brainsforbrains fucked around with this message at 21:09 on Dec 11, 2010 |

I wish they'd switch the show over to a weekly format though and just focus on the guests and other strong points of the show, as some of the episodes are a stretch to fill the time, but he seems committed to the 4-5 days a week for some reason.
