One scene that I missed was him taking Mad Eye's eye and giving it a respectful burial. Also the way they did it made the ministry a lot more incompetent then they were in the book.

I just wish that they would have (or will in Part 2) taken a breath, done some quick exposition to spell out the Gregorovitch/Grindewald/Dumbledore Elder Wand mythos. Or at least explore Rita Skeeter's book a bit more. Maybe a flashback scene of Dumbledore's childhood. I thought it was really important and the quick cuts to Voldemort's perspective didn't properly inform the audience that this was Harry "becoming" Lord Voldemort on this quest. Other than that it was perfect.

Well I am pretty sure that they have casted a young Dumbledore and Grindewald. Also its already been established that he become Voldermort when he has his visions. I thought that Queenie is going to be back and it was only for a picture?

I think that they will have Aberforth talk to the kids about Dumbledore, and that's where most of the flashback stuff will be if there is any.

I for one want to see Dumbledore try and kick the poo poo out of Grindelwald when he realizes what he's become.

As for Rita Skeeter? I think her very quick cameo on the back cover of her book is about all we'll see. I wonder how much that cost them.

It's odd that you mention that phrase, because it looked just like Galadriel from the Lord of the Rings when she is tempted by the ring and says the exact same thing; "...And I shall not be dark, but beautiful and terrible as the Morning and the Night!"

But on Galadriel it looked slightly ridiculous and thematically uncalled for, whereas in DH it looked really really good.

If they're going to try to fill another (dreadfully plodding) 2.5 hour movie with content I figure they'll explore that plot line a bit further because it's close to being actual content as opposed to sitting around a campsite, dancing for no reason, and wandering through an inexplicable FEMA trailer graveyard.

I agree. I thought it was a pretty haunting image, combined with the reading of Wizards who had gone missing

On a different note, I was thinking how it's sort of a shame that they are trimming down the Dumbledore plot from DH for the films (which isn't surprising. Only a small part of that info pertains to the actual plot of getting Harry where he needs to go, but it was still great stuff to read) because one of the more heartbreaking things J.K. did will be glossed over or not mentioned at all. Grindewald playing on Dumbledore's feelings for him as a friend (and more) without reciprocating any of those feelings whatsoever is such a :smith: thing, and was well done. It also ties into Voldemort, who has no feelings for any of his followers whatsoever, he just understands the need for them. I love how Bellatrix loves him and wants to jump his bone every other scene, and he just ignores it.

Why would death eaters destroy a trailer park in the middle of a field?

I could be totally off here but while I remember Voldemort and company messing around with Muggles during that time, it was never laying waste to entire towns. At least not that I recall.

He had giants attack entire towns. The Ministry had to Obliviate the gently caress out of everyone and tell them a freak hurricane passed through.

Also he had that bridge destroyed which killed dozens. Harry in DH is cut off almost completely from the wizarding world and totally from the Muggle world. Who knows how bad it actually got?

Ok fair enough, I always got the impression that they were out of control loving with muggles but not that blatant about it for fear of blowing their cover. Then again I guess they wanted to Kill All Humans or enslave them or something so maybe not.

The FEMA trailer graveyard is still funny though.

Never heard that. We're also never given a clear reference on how fast spells travel (speed of thought? light? sound? something else?). Everything is ambiguous at best. Everyone has plenty of time to react to and dodge the spells. But if a learned wizard was knowingly going against gun, etc. I'm sure they'd have adequate defense surrounding them.

Casting spells really does seem like boxing, martial arts or fencing. Even if you're throwing the killing curse, you're maneuvering your opponent for the actual kill strike - chess if you will - knowing you're not going to take them out on the first hit.

Endless Trash

It's definitely a finite speed. Maybe a major league baseball pitch? It can't be light or sound or else dueling would be out of the question. And yeah it's definitely like sword fighting, at least that's how I imagined it in the books. In the movies it's gun fighting or dueling depending on the plot requirements.

I don't know. Have we ever seen someone evade a killing curse without at least partially taking a hit? Maybe, I don't remember.

I think that spells just move at the speed of plot in Rowling's world.

Yes. When Crabbe (or Goyle, I don't remember) are attacking Ron and Hermione in the Room of Requirement in Book 7, both of them dodge the Avada Kedavra.

I agree that Rowlings magic does seem to suit the plot (the fidelius charm, portkeys and apparition are the big baloney ones) but it is crabbe and goyle. They're like magical tards. If you got hit by them then you would deserve it.

Hey everyone, I had a quick question for any Wizard People, Dear Reader fans. I'd asked in the HP thread in Cinema Discusso, but that's been dead for a few weeks and I don't want to resurrect it just for this, and I figured someone in here may know.

Does anyone know where the original, 2004 recording of Wizard People can be downloaded? I originally watched the thing on YouTube, in a series of videos that uses the original voice track. I downloaded a complete track earlier today, and it's the later recording, and I just don't like it as well. I've tried Googling for the original, but so far no dice. Wikipedia says it's available for download on Brad Neely's website, but apparently it's been taken down.

If anybody has the audio and wants to put it up on tindeck or something, that would be incredible, or point me in the right direction of a legitimate and safe download.

I just read the whole series for the first time over the last 2 weeks.
It was better than I had expected, and now I have to go watch all the movies again, although I'm already remembering things about them that pissed me off (like how they cut out anything in book 6 that would've been interesting, etc.)
Question though, and I'll re-read to try and find it again too... HOW was Draco the Elder Wand's master, again? It didn't make a lot of sense, granted I was reading at the end of a 16 hour shift.

Gregorovitch had it, Grindelwald stole it from him, Dumbledore defeated him, and Draco disarmed Dumbledore on top of the Astronomy Tower. I've always thought the history of the Deathly Hallows and how Harry finally procures them all is too muddled for children to fully grasp.

The Wand doesn't have to pass by murder, it just happens to a lot because people drawn to its power tend to be power-hungry assholes. It passes if its owner is disarmed. Draco disarmed Dumbledore at the top of the tower.

This was in fact a big deal in the books, where Ollivander was surprised that Harry knew about disarming's effects on wands. Even Voldemort was unaware of it. This is part of the underlying reason that Harry wins: Voldemort knows powerful Dark magic, but Harry knows how and why the basics of magic work. He doesn't have to be a great wizard, he just has to be good enough to identify Voldemort's obvious blunders.
