Speaking of soundboards, why do you catch Fred saying things like I can't pull up those two sounds, they are on different pages. Can't they come up with a better way to play fart sounds and cougars roaring at the same time?

Its on Gary preview page 1 in red. They use the Prophet system thats a few generation old and apparently it has some limitations.

That app totally needs a dual touch screen interface. The second screen would be purely a 'scratch pad' where you could add current sounds that you want to play with. Done!

Earlier today JD posted his email address on twitter in an effort to reach Alan Sepinwall. I changed my name in my email client to read as Alan Sepinwall. He responded saying wants the sound files from some Oprah Press Conference. I think I am going to just send him an MP3 of something, maybe him stammering.

That's what Howard/Sal/Gary's stuff looks like. Fred, while using the same system, I bet has his tweaked to just what he wants so he can fly to and from with ease. I doubt Fred's stuff is anywhere near that much of a clusterfuck.

That's not a touch screen, it's a 17" Samsung SyncMaster 710n. See the mouse cursor there? Even if it wasn't a mousing navigational nightmare, are you honestly saying this is the best UI possible to have a listing of twenty 1 minute sound clips?

Trust me I wrote one of the first touch screen supermarket software apps and we tried it with faffing about small bits. But like I said if they are mostly mousing with that then whatever. I really doubt Howard and Fred are mousing much, not being perfect im happy to be proved wrong

I've seen enough TV of the show to think both are mousing. You never see Howard reaching for clips, not even a motion of his arms moving. His console is huge and there's no monitor that's an easy reach away. Plus he's always looking up when searching for clips, never down as if they built one into the console. I really don't think they're doing touch.

Well, the monitor in the picture isn't a touch screen monitor, so unless it's mirroring another monitor somewhere else that IS touch screen, I'd say they're using the mouse. It's a functional thing but not exactly pretty. It does make stuff easy to find. "Gary Preview page 1 in red" or "JD page 4 in green" or whatever would be easy to find with the combination of drop-downs and large, easily-read buttons. My guess is that they're so big because everyone on the show is over 50 and has problems reading up close.

Maybe, but then the text would fill more of the boxes and be in a larger font. Even if Howard can figure it out, it's still not put together well. It looks pretty awful since there's these giant colorful boxes with tiny font. And it's going off the side of the boxes. It's a loving nightmare.

Speaking of Artie, was it ever fully explained how he got the part in Elf? Judging by the friendship Howard seems to have with Favreau, it seems like that is how he may have secured the part. Does anybody know details on that subject? Or is it just a boring 'hey he auditioned for it idiot' kind of thing?
