Keeping it alpha with Brucie is never annoying, bro.

If you really don't want to do them, wait for the friend to call, accept the request, then call them back and cancel. If you ignore them, or accept and don't show up, they get really pissy. It is kind of nice to get the friendship bonuses, so if you think you're interested, look up a FAQ or something for the bonuses and decide which friends are worth it to you, max out the friendship as quickly as possible, then use the accept-cancel method to keep the friendship at the highest level.

I don't want a repeat of my first Fallout 3 playthrough when I only discovered right at the end of the game that I should have been picking up all those pre-war books and really really shouldn't have been drinking all the Nuka Cola quantums I found.

If you need money, just keep buying/growing Hazelnut Trees. The seeds are 85 coins and a full grown tree will sell for 330-390 coins (I think it depends on how spaced out they are from each other).

Buy the watering can upgrades as soon as possible, as they decrease the rate that plants need watering.

When you get the shovel upgrade that lets you dig holes for seeds, always do that when you plant since it helps their growth rate.

There is less of this in new vegas. The only things I can think of right now are medical supplies and scrap metal. The closest thing to the NukaQuantum quest is the Star Bottle Caps you find around and you can't sell those. You do have a random chance of getting one when you drink a Sunset Sasparilla so you might want to drink/hoard those.

Hi guys, I'm looking for any useful/random tips on Mass Effect 2. I don't really want to be spoilered so I am staying out of the megathread for now.
Hmm, let's see: I played ME1 and completed it a looong time ago, so I ended up importing a character (Vanguard as she used to be, started level 2 with some cash). So far I have played up to the point where I have gotten Archangel and that salarian whose name starts with M to join the party but that's about it.

I guess specifically I am wondering if there is a certain preferred order I should be doing things (I remember ME1 has one quest that people typically told you to leave until later) or what else I should watch out for. Thanks!

Nope, but if you have the DLC install it ASAP as its any time, any playthrough content.

Most pressingly near the end of the game their will be a forced mission in a derelict space-ship which will end with you receiving a new party-member. If you want to avoid any negative consequences you have only time for 1 mission before you must start the end-game.

On the other hand once you beat the game you can do any sidequests or missions you left so once your done you can do whatever remains.

It is 2 but keep in mind leaving your ship counts as a mission so I tell people they have time for one "mission". Keep em focused on what they should focus on during that time frame rather than thinking "oh no what do I do with these precious missions". Plus some people have had issues with going over the limit on accident while investigating areas.

I played this game to death.

You'll constantly get pestered by red pinata, beat them to death with the shovel as soon as you see them and smash any red sweets they drop, since they'll make other pinatas sick. You can get rid of a species of red pinata by creating the right conditions to make it move into your garden, once it's moved in, it'll change to a friendly and you'll never see the nasty aspect of it again. Also, the converted pinatas tend to have useful special abilities, like healing sick pinatas and eating weeds and stuff.

The annoying vandal guys will keep coming back, but you can buy place a special statue that keeps them away. It's called the Commander's Statue, or the Commander's Sword or something. If that's not available yet, then all you can do is beat them with the shovel 'til they run off. In the sequel, some of the bigger pinatas (like the dragon) would chase them away too, but I don't know if that works in the first one.

If you get one pinata to move in, you can ask the hunter to bring you another one whenever you like (even if the original is no longer there, or you're in a different garden). This can save a lot of hassle, especially with some of the more picky pinatas.

Fertilizing plants makes them grow bigger, so they'll sell for more money and produce more/bigger fruit. Different plants need different colored fertilizer, you can tell when you got it right because it will make a sort of ping noise. With small things, like flowers or vegetables, you can apply 3 doses all at once and forget about it. With bigger things, like trees, you can usually apply 3 (sometimes only 2) but only at special times. You can almost always apply one dose once it's first planted, the other times you'll need to find by trial and error (or use the wiki).

The game has a huge number of weird special things hidden in it, you may find them yourself, but you may want to raid the wiki to find them since you'll never see them otherwise. For example, if you breed a snake, and you smash the egg it lays at a particular time (something to do with when it bounces, I can't remember) with your shovel, it'll hatch into a two headed snake. The same trick works with the 2 headed snake egg to get a 4 headed one. Another is one of the insects will mutate into something else if you set it on fire with a lawn ornament, then put it out with your watering can. Plus, my personal favourite, you can get the pig and the swan to mate and create some weird mutant winged pig monster thing.

You'll go nuts constantly trying to change your garden to get all the different creatures (like the swan, who wants huge amounts of water), it's generally much easier to just start a new garden every once in a while rather than constantly keeping the same one. All your upgrades/cash carries through, and you can put pinata in boxes to transfer them between between gardens.

There's no quests like those in New Vegas (well, there is one guy who'll reward you for bringing him tin cans, scrap metal, etc.), but I'd advise that you hoard Scrap Metal, Duct Tape, Wonderglue, Wrenches, and Scrap Electronics. If you have 50 Repair, you can use them to make Weapon Repair kits which are hella useful.

There are a few weapons you get at a certain part when you're going through a castle that will be taken away from you once you get back out...unless you use them to craft weapons with them. These are the either the first or second best weapons in the game.

No. ME2 gives you hints before each mission as to what you're likely to face, so if you stick with the same people the whole time, you'll miss cool random bits of dialogue.

Some of the major differences between FO3 and New Vegas:

-Money is much more useful. Instead of bobbleheads, stat upgrades come from implants, which cost 4000 caps each. Also, there are some awesome weapons for sale for 3-6K.
-The Barter skill isn't poo poo anymore. In addition to better deals at shops, most of the 'You should give me more caps!' dialog options have been moved from Speech to Barter.
-Melee/unarmed is awesome, even at low levels. Also, energy weapons do not eclipse everything else at high levels.
-Actually, the only poo poo skill is Survival. Turning bloatfly meat into sliders is loving useless, while most of the more powerful recipes require very rare ingredients. The only worthwhile recipe is poison, and you can make a good one at 25 Survival.
-You can get laid _without_ resorting to prostitutes.
-Perks are only gained every other level. Choose carefully.
-Permanent skill books are much rarer. Corollary: you are _not_ gimping yourself by not taking Comprehension.
-It still uses level scaling, but it's less forgiving. If you venture too far away from the roads early on, you will be facefucked by mobs you have no chance of beating.

There's a perk that lets you increase a stat by 1. If you're not set on other perks, you could take this a few times.

The implants certainly aren't essential though. If you're dead set on maxing out stats and being the best you can be, sure Endurance is useful to get loads of implants. If you're high level and have awesome gear, you won't be struggling to finish the game because of your endurance.

In all likelihood, not at all.

See, there are 7 implants for your stats (1 for each SPECIAL) that let you boost each stat by one point. You can only receive one of each, as well. There are two other implants which offer unique bonuses. One boosts your DT by 3 or 4 points, while the other provides you with constant health regeneration.

So realistically speaking those +1s to your attributes aren't going to make or break the game. If you've survived well enough without them, you'll continue to do so. It might mean the difference between getting access to a specific perk and not, or between being able to clean up at the casinos and getting taken for all you're worth, but in the grand scheme of things it won't affect much of anything.

That being said, with 2 points in endurance you're eligible for 2 implants. I would strongly recommend grabbing the DT bonus. The health regen is less useful, especially if you're not playing on hardcore.

There's a mod called, I think, Sheriff's Special Forces or something similar. If you play the game through that you can play the old, expansion and some custom missions in one campaign, all with the new expansion weapons and commands. It also lets you carry a bunch of door jams at once, which is very handy. Other than that the only way to play the old missions in the expansion is as a custom game.

In addition to accepting then canceling the buddy missions, you can turn them off entirely in the phone options menu. I think it's called "Sleep Mode" or something. There, no more phone calls. It seems so many people did not know this and failed to enjoy a perfectly good game because they thought they had to play pool every five minutes or be punished.

I don't think you get plot calls in this mode either, but if you run out of missions, just turn it back on for a minute, your first call will probably be plot related.

The implants aren't essential, but they are useful. The biggest way that you're going to be gimping yourself is that you're going to have much less health than normal, since they lowered the amount of HP you get per level in New Vegas. If this isn't a problem though, don't get the endurance implant as it counts towards the number of implants you can have but doesn't increase the total number to 3.

Social Links with your party members can lead to in-battle bonuses from follow up attacks to them saving your butt from lethal attacks. So make those Social Links your first priority.

Your second priority, however, is getting a decent Social Link level for Hermit. A certain NPC will heal your SP for a price depending on the level.

Thirdly, make sure you max out Understanding, so you can get the Tower arcana at a job that also pays 10k per session. It'll be easier to level those insane end game Personas that are aligned with Tower.

And finally, if you want to max out Nanako and Dojima's S-Link, do it before November 3. You'll see why.

It's slightly less impossible to max them all. If you get lucky/know how anime girls think, and get most of the best responses during the social link events, it's possible with just minimal planning. On my second playthrough, I read a response guide to get the most out of every event, but I didn't have a preplanned schedule or anything, and still maxed everything. I just kind of winged it by figuring out everyone's availability and being smart about the rainy days (most social links aren't available if it's raining), and ended with days to spare. You're given a lot more leeway than P3, but regardless, if you don't know the 'correct' dialog options then it's still very unlikely you'll pull it off.

Moderately gimped. You can only get two implants, have low hitpoints, and you can't take the Toughness perk, which requires 5 END.

Which reminds me, I forgot to mention one of the biggest changes from Fallout 3 to New Vegas; armor no longer reduces a percentage of damage, but instead increases your Damage Threshold, which directly reduces the damage from each shot. Against someone with little or no DT, any weapon with good DPS will work, but against foes with high DT, you need a weapon that does a lot of damage per shot, or negates DT.

If you want to break the game, get two levels of the Toughness perk (+6 DT) and the subdermal implant (+4 DT). With this and good armor, you're almost invincible.

Fairly straightforward game really, you get new party members from the inn at stornway, you learn new skills as you level up/place skill points, most of the stuff in this game is the same as previous dragon quest games, so just enjoy it and experiment with classes, you won't be locked into one specific one.

It is worth keeping a mage in the party at all times, as well as a class who can heal (priest, paladin, hunter etc)

Not all classes are available from the start, the unlockable ones come from rather irritating grind quests, but are useful to have

The items that permanently increases a character's stats only do so for their current job. Don't give one to a character if you know you're not going to use that job much.

You earn skill points by leveling. Switching to a new job resets a character's level to 1 (switching back restores it to what it was), retaining all skills and passive stat boosts. Skill points carry over between jobs, so you can spend a character's skill points in ANY job you have access to, even jobs they will never level as.

Investing 100 skill points in a weapon type will let you use that weapon type regardless of job, which is really, really nice. Later weapon skills also tend to be really good, but tend to cost a lot of MP, which can be a problem for low-MP jobs. Even so, the passive attack boosts may be worth it.

Spells are tied to a character's current job and level. You cannot transfer a Priest's healing spells to another class -- you must have a high-level Priest in your party to cast high-level Priest spells.

Base stats are also tied a character's current job and level, so there's no "level as job X because they get the best stat boosts, but not for more than 38 levels because you'll end up capping stat Y" to worry about.

There's no in-game way to know what a skill does before buying it, and even then you have to enter combat to see the description.

The Thief's Half-Inch skill is the only way to steal items in the game. The Wand's Caduceus skill is the only healing skill.
