Yeah, honestly I am not sure I'm alone in thinking that the New Vegas redesigned stuff has just about as big a variation in quality as the models in the base game. There are plenty of quality character designs in vanilla New Vegas and while we're being honest the vanilla FO3 character designs weren't that bad either. This kind of poo poo was a must-have in Oblivion but Gamebryo's facial character designs haven't bothered me too much since. Mods like New Vegas redesigned really do have a large number of conflicts, too, which is why I generally don't bother unless it's really broken. Anything that hand-changes a bunch of NPCs is going to be bad news when it comes to conflicts. SheepNameKiller fucked around with this message at 22:10 on Jan 10, 2011 |

I'm curious about what combinations people are running with, especially ones that change gameplay. Well, I may not be the one this is directed at, but I have been running an ungodly large number of mods for my game - World of Pain, Classic Fallout Weapons, Tales of the Burning Sands I, New Vegas Bounties I, the community bugfix patch...actually, it'd probably be easier to just pull up my load order and post that. I'm actually thinking that World of Pain could use a fair bit more work, especially with regard to lighting and atmosphere - some of the areas have rather odd lighting and fog choices (a rather pervasive blue fog crops up in one or two of the sewers I've seen, very distracting). The Underground Weapons Research Facility has some rather bright lighting choices (though it's probably exacerbated by my choosing the Friend of the Night Perk...), among other things. What I find seems to be lacking most in a lot of World of Pain is a sense of, well, life - I see all these broken terminals and all, but I can't help but imagine what sorts of stories might be told in places like these. The smaller locations don't really need it so much, of course, but the larger crawls and locations really need to have some sense of backstory to them. Actually, seeing stuff like this makes me rather tempted to give quest-making a try myself, but I don't know if I'd have the stamina or the patience for it. Best I could really see myself doing would be to help someone else with it - adding bits and pieces of story, checking environments, etc. Would still be a LOT of work, of course.

This is actually one of my favorite things about the mods developed by PuceMoose, every location has a very well thought out backstory and notes/terminals that tell the story and afford deeper progression into the mod's subplot. I can't wait until we see a followup mod from him since Tales of the Burning Sands I, while great in its own right, isn't as involved as some of his other mods. You know if you're really interested maybe you can ping the guy who develops World of Pain and offer to write backstories for some of his locations. I'm sure he'd actually really appreciate the help and you might learn a bit of modding in the process. My understanding of A World of Pain was that it's still a WIP.

I've had victor attack me before, no idea how. Out in powder ganger territory and he has actually killed me before with his grenades and he kept chasing me on my way to Primm. I lost him there and hours later when I went to novac he was there again attacking the citizens there and then they killed him. It was crazy and makes me think that having victor randomly pop up in the game to attack you would make for an interesting mod.

Well then, sounds like it might be a good idea to get a copy of the New Vegas GECK and give it a whirl. I think my main concern would be figuring out the best way to approach the World of Pain dev about this sort of thing. Maybe I can check his Nexus page, see if he has a good way of contacting him for collaboration. I should probably also make a point of studying the existing mods that add new locations with backstory work and things like that - Tales of the Burning Sands I springs to mind for a start. May also want to study the method of construction that the Obsidian devs used for their locations, try and figure out what makes them seem more solid. Edit: Yeesh, the GECK's pretty hard to make heads or tails of. It's pretty imposing at first sight...suppose I'll need to do something about that, muscle through it. Navigating through the world doesn't seem to be that hard to do at least, but I dare not try to add, remove or make a change for fear of causing something to freak out. Might want to see about using it to fix this odd rotated wall bug I've been having for ages...for some reason in one particular tileset, one wall type gets flipped to the opposite of where it should be, leaving holes in the environment and a wall to collide against where there shouldn't be. Disregarding that, I'm working on the new version of AAS, and making a "no added ammotypes" version (doesn't modify ammo lists so it'd be more compatible with ammo mods, but still modifies ammo types due to necessity) and a "my crazy projectile experiments" version along with the current one. I'm also changing DT scaling/negating again though the principle of it being actor resilience isn't changed.

I have to disagree, I think in general the quality is much higher than in stock, even on the low end. About the only character that I don't like more is Veronica, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it is worse quality, it's definitely higher quality I just don't like her looks. Maybe a strong statement but I think he did an excellent job, especially for unpaid labor, and it is noticeably higher realism especially with throwaway characters. By the way, how do you recover from a bad loading screen? I cannot seem to do anything but hard power down the system, with black screen I can put the computer in standby and come back and alt-tab to task manager but loading screens are doom. I am realizing how blessedly bug-free my first character was, probably because I skipped most of the quests. Most of the bugs though can be traced to autosave, McCarran especially is a crash zone, maybe because I've been doing a lot of quests there.

How would I go about giving certain ammo types and/or weapons tracers? I love my Vintorez, but using it at extreme range is a pain in the rear end because it has some crazy bullet drop and it's tough landing successive shots on targets when I can't see where the bullets are dropping to. The range finder on the scope texture is actually pretty useful (albeit not very realistic), but tracers would be much, MUCH better.
