Yeah, WB = region free, but more importantly it's a pretty good indication that we'll see a US release not long after.

The Digital Bits says Midnight Cowbow and Platoon will get a US release May 2 and 16, respectively. They also indicate thst Tron is definitely coming to Blu-Ray, but there's a possibility that it will only be available in a 2-pack bundle with Tron Legacy.

That doesn't surprise me, honestly. When the Fantasia/2000 set came out, it occurred to me that that's probably what would happen with Tron.

Either way, it'll be great to see a high definition version of the original Tron - I wonder if they'll leave it exactly as it was, or be tempted to George Lucas it up to look more like Tron Legacy? Given what the film was and what it did, I really hope they don't fiddle with it. I wouldn't personally mind too much if they stabalised some of the dancing superimposed characters or reduced the gaps around them, which can be pretty huge, but then again I'd prefer they left it alone. I've hit a spot of bother that you might be able to help with. We're watching through the extras on Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and it looks like a lot of the disc's content might be unavailable due to our choice of player! If this is strictly a Haus of Tech Support problem then I'll go and ask there, but I wondered if it was a famous problem among Blu-Ray fans that everyone has to work around, or something. The main thing on the film's 2nd disc is a great big documentary with a branching feature. Now and then, a pop-up will appear, asking you if you want to queue up a mini-documentary. If you press enter, it changes the pop-up to a countdown, and presumably the short pieces play between chapters of the main documentary. Our Blu Ray player is a drive in the PC rather than an under-the-TV player - our computer happens to be positioned for easy HDMI linkage to the TV - and it came with CyberLink PowerDVD 8. I haven't had any bother with it before, but it won't play these. It will register the press, and even change to the countdown graphic, but then it just keeps playing the main feature. Even more frustrating, the DVD contains a menu where you can select the branching chapters, but even this just drops us back into the main documentary. So it looks like I have software that isn't compatible with this particular branching system. Has the standard changed in the last couple of years since it was released? Normally I'd get the latest update, but PowerDVD is all about selling you big new releases and it looks like there's no such thing as a free upgrade on this one. Will I really have to shell out for new player software (the free players like VLC still don't do Blu, right?), or is there a way of sneaking round the disc's menus to force side chapters to play? Is there goon favourite Blu-Ray player software? Will AnyDVDHD help, I don't have that yet. Pretty frustrating. If you've watched the disc, you'll know these mini documentaries are ~10m each and there are a lot of them, so this is a lot of missing content! The reason he's saying that is because it's not a slipcover, it's a "slip-piece-of-cardboard-with-no-bottom-that-folds-open." Click here for the full 640x480 image. And yes, as someone who likes slipcovers, and especially likes the cover that is on the cardboard (even though I LOVE the Criterion-esque packaging), it is very annoying that they couldn't just make it a slipcover.

I have to say that personally I love that case, but as someone who works in a rental store...gently caress that case. I had to tape the "slipcover" to the cases so that people would know what movie it is. Also, people are dumb and like to take slipcovers off and reverse them etc, so I know this is going to be a bother for a while.

I was pleasantly surprised when that came off. I mean, I get what they're going for with the on-the-shelf cover, but what's underneath is so sexy. Just like the reversible There Will Be Blood cover. Which more companies need to do. Have the giant floating heads over an explosion with critic blurbs on the outside, and sexy, delicious, reversible poster art inside.

Kino announced their next silent... Buster Keaton's Our Hospitality - 3/22 - Orchestral Score by Carl Davis (5.1 and stereo) - Musical Score by Donald Hunsberger - The Iron Mule (short comedy directed by Roscoe Arbuckle) - Making-of Documentary - Alternate Workprint Cut (with Lee Erwin's organ score plus introduction) - Photo/snapshot galleries (Info from ClassicFlix... the "alternate cut" is a workprint found recently) At this rate, we could have all of Kino's Keaton films out by 2012. Kino has six more features (all are probably going paired into three double features), plus the 19 two-reel comedies made from 1920-1923. I'm just curious what's with people's complaints about the Tron/Tron Legacy being bundled together. Some people are making it sound like Legacy was terrible, and only the original Tron is good, and others make it sound like they expect the dual release to contain only a regular edition of either film.

Yeah, what the hell? Tron: Legacy is loving awesome. Tron is, at best, a special feature to be included with the new movie. Kinda like how Frankenweenie is a feature on Edward Scissorhands, or that other thing came with that big movie.

Ineffiable posted:I'm just curious what's with people's complaints about the Tron/Tron Legacy being bundled together. 1) The original Tron 2) the 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy package of Legacy. If I can get both of those in a single package, I'm ecstatic. If they were to sell both separately, that'd be fine too. If I have to buy a standard two-pack just for Tron, and then pay more money to buy a separate duplicate copy of Legacy in order to get the 4 disc edition, I'm going to be irritated. Granted, without concrete details it's a bit too early to get worked up, but there's always time to speculate about potential studio ineptitude. As for those who only want the original and not Legacy, yeah I don't get that either. In other news, The Digital Bits is reporting that there WILL be a 3D release of Jackass 3D, but it will probably be Best Buy exclusive for the first couple months of release. Here's hoping the Tron blu-ray release will have all the extras of the 20th Anniversary DVD. That's got to be one of my all-time favourite set of extras. The making of documentary is longer than the movie, and full of really interesting stories, like how the film cells they used for compositing weren't consistent, so you got these brief sections of brighter film. So they added little animated 'zingers' in those frames coupled with a sound effect. So a glitch in production actually added to the feel of the film.

Do I have a bad Blu-Ray copy? I bought a copy of Beauty and the Beast from Amazon and it seems to have quite a few playback issues in the same spots with all editions of the movie. The picture freezes and the sound stops. After about 10 seconds it resumes playing. Firmware is up to date. Do I have a bad Blu-Ray or should I be doing something else?

The Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy is tentatively planned for release this year as per The Digital Bits.quote:What's more, our sources are NOW telling us that WHV (and their now in-house New Line label) is ALSO planning to release Peter Jackson's long-awaited The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Extended Editions on Blu-ray sometime this year. No kidding. We suspect that, now that The Hobbit films are finally about to begin filming, the studio is eager to get more product on store shelves to keep the franchise fresh in the minds of fans. The Extended Rings films on BD are the obvious choice for this year. Farther down the line, of course, there will be the obvious Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D versions of The Hobbit films, and sooner or later an "ultimate" box set of all the films with all new extras custom created by Jackson. Anyway, our sources tell us to expect some kind of official news on all this (re: Rings: Extended and Kubrick) from the studio in the next several weeks.

Heads up for anyone who has a PS3 and has a copy of Sunshine. For anyone wondering what I am talking about....Sony released a firmware update(the 3d update) for the PS3 that totally hosed the ability of Sunshine to play without the PiP features turned on. It makes the movie unwatchable. Now that I have said that...to the good stuff. Blu Ray.com forum link, check first post on this page. I bombarded contacts at both Sony and Fox, and received this e-mail: Dear Bryan, Fox has made available replacement Blu-ray discs for any consumer has has had an issue playing their copy of SUNSHINE. We value you as a consumer and a fan of Danny Boyle's film. Consumers should contact Fox customer service at 888-223-4369. thank you. Regards, James Call the number, and the rep will take down your name and address for a replacement disc. They say it should be sent out in the next week or two. From reading the rest of the thread it sounds like it is pretty painless.
