Filled the ignition module & king lead with WD40. Now my car starts in the wet! Tomorrow's project: replace the ignition module / attack the current one with Vaseline.

My cousin restored a Ford F-100, 1963 (I think), also white. Where are you? I should show him your pictures, I doubt he's ever taken his through so much as a wet parking lot. \/\/\/ His came from California, a few years ago. He's in southern Ontario, and treats his truck like a princess. I love that you drive yours the way it's meant to be driven. ExecuDork fucked around with this message at 06:27 on Jan 11, 2011 |

Got the car back from the tinting place and put some Eibach springs on. It's a 1.4" drop and it may settle more, so if it goes any lower I'll sell the springs and get the 1" version. After 3 weeks I will be adding a camber kit for the front and rear if needed and getting an alignment.

I went to change my oil! And ended up with: new intake manifold gasket (2mm hole was making a nasty rushing sound, could see right in; the hole shot fire when I Seafoamed it ) Seafoam a tightened alternator belt replaced the whitened trim bits above the back end of the gutter rail (Volvo 740 wagon) with car-colored ones verification that my coolant reserve tank lid is shot a shattered oil dipstick handle Gunk Motor Flush fresh oil and a filter drove it hard in 2nd around town and up some hills to clear the Seafoam fresh tank of gas and cleared a bunch of OBD1 blinky codes about fuel trim caused by the new intake gasket no daylight Ran out of time for a carwash because I had to make this for dinner. It was great.

While hardly a mechanic I've been learning as I go along dealing with the slew of issues my inherited 1994 Ford Taurus LX 3.0 has had since I got it. Since purchase I've helped. 1. Rebuild the Transmission, whatever the name of the plate that holds that bitch in gear was cracked and it would slip out of gear while I was driving it (Terrifying to have happen on the freeway.) 2. Replace a motormount (Which due to not realizing it was shredded lead to the next few issues) 3. The broken motormount /wrecked/ my alternator it was bucking up into the hood everytime I shifted into gear (Hurr what's that thud noise) Today I will be replacing the destroyed alternator...I really want to get an RX-7 to play with because I think rotory engines are cool and want to learn.

On a similar theme as above, Today I performed some routine maintenance (oil, and some filters) having previously spent zero minutes under the hood of a car. I added spice to the simple process of changing the oil on my E46 by spilling about a quart of oil before I could dispose of it. Never paying for a dealership to do routine work on my vehicles again.

Well this is a little belated but last week I came home from vacation to this. Two days later got her cleaned up. I guess this counts considering its a type of ride Gf's dad's plane came back from its annual maintenance (which it needed it was having some nasty carb problems) ...and took her flying Now that the carbs fixed a new problem has arisen the fuel vent leaks a gallon of AvGas if you top off the fuel tanks wtf

Imperador do Brasil posted:Started the baja bug and adjusted the idle. It's been sitting under the tarp for a few weeks since it doesn't have heat, and PA winters aren't warm. The idle was around 500, so I pulled it up to about 750 so it doesn't sound like it's going to stall. Also moved it back a couple of feet from its previous position in the alley, just so it gets to move at least a little this winter. I'd be tempted to take it for a spin in the snow... Changed the thermostat and was going to change the oil cooler coolant hoses, but the dealership sold me hoses for a TT (i have an A4 1.8T). Cleaned up the corrosion from the connections and reinstalled with new clamps and no new leaks, so it looks ok anyway. Changed the oil and filer as well, since it's been cold and I've been doing a bunch of city driving. Car actually gets to 90C now. I'm hoping to see an improvement in city mileage due to being quicker to warm up. Previously it would struggle to get to 80C, the fuel consumption was crap and my oil smelled like fuel...

I really want to own an STI at some point but it's probably the one car I would never buy used. It's too bad the average person who buys them (present company excluded ) seems to have no idea how to, uh, not completely destroy the car. Maybe I can find an old lady who bought one.

It's not a bad buy as a new car given how well they hold their value - go get one! As a used car though it's generally not very difficult to figure out if you're looking an abused/modded car. There are a few telltale signs of both and a leakdown/compression test basically tells you all you need to know. Kylie Sven Opossum posted:Hot drat that's a sexy car! Looking good, man.
