So uh, didn't see this posted, but Scott left Reel Big Fish? I'm interested to see what they can do without him but I'm not exactly confident

Reel Big Fish has unfortunately been a sinking ship for the last two years, I don't exactly blame him for getting out now, especially with a kid on the way. Hopefully this means a LMB return

Nothing. Goddammit. At least I got to see him do the girl vocals for She Has A Girlfriend Now this fall.

I'm glad. Scott had real talent and fish were washed up. Like being in a relationship you know died a long time ago because it was comfortable.

Goddammit. I was all excited about getting the Hello Rockview reissue with my LTJ ticket, particularly since it was supposed to ship by next Monday. Then I find out the release date isn't till March. Ffffffffff

So he'll be replaced by someone else who doesn't talk and just stands in the backroom during concerts I assume.

dnz invites an interesting question. Put aside for a minute what Reel Big Fish is capable of without Scott. What is Scott capable of without RBF? If he's staying in music I'm pretty interested in what he does next. Has he made any announcements?

Well, the Littlest Man Band's music was pretty fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xd7j_F4l9I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNb9zujmof8 He might pop up with some solo shows around New York, if anything. His Twitter account would probably be the best source for "announcements" of what he'll be up to: http://twitter.com/thelittlestman EDIT: RBF was a stepping stone for me to other bands from the Orange County ska scene and more traditional ska, rocksteady, and reggae bands. One of my happier cd finds was a copy of The (OC) Scholars - Last Great Record of the 20th Century in a Tower Records. They apparently had a one-off reunion last year, too. It's weird seeing Aaron Barrett playing the trombone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHNV_SYCxR0 interpunct fucked around with this message at 20:39 on Jan 12, 2011 |

Didn't see this posted yet, the Aquabats have a new album coming out January 18th, Hi-Five Soup. This is the first song off the album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNQkEz2YpT8 They are continuing to shed their ska sound, but defiantly keeping their zaniness. Even though it sucks they've axed the horn section completely, I'm still looking forward to the new album.

On a different note. Ever since they announced Slapstick for the Asian Man fest, I've been having fever dreams of them somehow, someway, getting The Impossibles to play. They're not an AMR band, sure, but they've had songs out on some of their comps. It's worth a shot, damnit!

Reel Big Fish will own till the day Aaron leaves. People always come up to me and ask "Hey lead singer of Reel Big Fish, how come you aren't as cool as the Aquabats!" I love them.

Most of the new songs are not that good with a few exceptions, and when they try and play the old stuff it sounds really bad. All the old stuff rocks your face off though so if you dont like you have problems.

I love the Aquabats, but even I'll admit that most of their cds have only a handful of really good songs, and a bunch of really weird and forgettable ones that likely have never been played live ever and everyone's forgotten about. Remember The Man with Glooey Hands? Worms Make Dirt? Canis Lupus? Really Return of the Aquabats and The Fury of the Aquabats are the only two albums with nothing but gold. Whenever I hear a new Aquabats thing, I always kind of expect most of it to be catchy but nothing special, then a few really drat good songs that they'll never stop playing live. As for the RBF thing, I've always found their live shows really fun and am sad to see Scotty leave. I know I've heard reports from you guys of really lovely RBF shows but every one I've been to has been really drat fun and entertaining so whatever.

I hate 99% of third wave ska but i'll still listen to the Aquabats just because its dorkiness is self-aware and they have some fun songs. I actually think their gimmick gets more genuine and earnest the older and heavier they get. And I did like Charge, I don't mind them continuing to go in that direction.
