oh, I didn't watch it

My cat has no problems figuring out when I'm pointing at something, or even just looking at it, but she doesn't react unless it's something she wants.

Point at a book: she looks at it, looks back at me, flicks her ear, goes back to catting

Point at bird in window: she looks at it, crouches low, and starts chittering

I've had cats that play fetch.

I've walked two cats on the beach in the rain.

I've pointed at things and had several cats pay attention to what I'm pointing at.

I've had a cat that unplugged the microwave everyday.

I've toilet trained several cats.

Cats are far more well behaved than dogs of similar size.

the difference is that all dogs innately know how to do this, to the point where they can just read your eyes even as a puppy, and it's not a learned behavior like it was in those cats

i think this is proof of the greater intelligence of cats. why the gently caress should they bother helping blind people when we feed and pet them just the same if they don't?

dogs have no critical thinking skills and just do whatever you tell them because they're kissasses

phd in zooology

I have a PhD in zoology, and academics like me would be pretty useless taking care of big cats.

People who work in zoos taking care of the animals usually have vocational training, one or two years post high school. They also know hell of a lot more about animals than most academic zoologists.

you're all retarded

dogs follow direction and are sociable because in the wild they live in cooperative packs with a strict hierarchy and their communication skills need to be top notch

cats are mostly solitary hunters and dont really care that much about social structure and therefore dont have an innate need to follow the directions of their superiors (if they even see you as superior)

idk poo poo about animals compared to my zoo friends

there's a pretty huge range in biologists from people who want to know everything about animals (or one group of animals) to those who are strictly interested in the processes that make life or diversity happen and will just choose whatever animal makes that easiest. i'm pretty far to the latter extreme, but i honestly envy some of my more animal-centered friends their focus and depth of knowledge. s'okay though because process-based work gets much more widely known and there are a lot more jobs out there (though still not enough :argh:)
