A tie bar is the thing you clip to the blade of your tie horizontally (or angled down, depending on whom you ask) that keeps your tie from flapping around. A collar pin is the thing you pin to your collar to prop up your tie knot. They both own but are definitely within the realm of foppery so use caution.

IBR chat: I'm seriously kicking myself for ever taking out private loans. I recalculated my fed loan payments today and I'll be paying $309/mo on my $100k of federal debt on my current salary (a standard repayment would be $1350, a smopping 40% of my salary). I'm also paying $336 a month on my $50,000 of private access group loans. If I'd just checked the "grad PLUS" box instead of the "access group" box when I was filling out my applications I'd only be paying $309/mo on my $150k of debt. I literally might as well be flushing $336 down the toilet every month, there's zero, zero need for me to be paying this extra debt. But I was dumb and didn't think things through so here I am. Fortunately access group was kind enough to stop lending me money entirely during my second semester or I'd owe them about $75k I will say that I do feel mildly guilty about taxpayer money subsidizing my worthless law degree that I'm not using. I hope the tea party never finds out about IBR edit: on top of the reasonable loan payments, I should also point out that I was paying $0 a month during my 17 months of unemployment without so much as a phone call from the DoE. The federal government can be pretty awesome when it wants to be fake second edit: is there somewhere on the dl.ed.gov website where you can tell them you've started making money to start repayment? I looked all over and all I could find were calculators. Am I going to have to actually call them or something? Ainsley McTree fucked around with this message at 01:56 on Jan 21, 2011 |

Ainsley McTree posted:IBR chat: Although I share your fear of what will happen when the tea party finds out about IBR, I don't for one loving second feel guilty about it. We're pretty much the only 1st world country that has to pay as much as we do for higher education. There was literally a riot in Britain a few months ago when some kids found out they might have to pay the equivalent of about $5,000 USD for their college education. Don't be a victim of our culture of corporate-induced guilt over debt. Make an effort to pay it back, sure. But never let it rule your life and never feel bad about taking any break you can get. As for where to notify DOE that you've actually got a paying job and can begin paying back I have no clue. I've tried to find the same information due to receiving a huge promotion at work a few months ago and I cannot find any information. Two different phone calls have led to promises of being sent paperwork that never arrives. I honestly don't think they've implemented a plan for this yet. I also agree with Mr. Ficitious, the OP should have an admonishment to ONLY BORROW GRAD PLUS AND FEDERAL SUB/UNSUB LOANS or suffer a violent beating at the hands of everyone in the thread who borrowed privately.

Wow, I really wish I had seen this thread before I attended law school. During the three years of law school, I went from someone who worked out fives times a week, to someone who would have the time, energy and desire to go once or twice. Meanwhile, over the course of those three years, I developed an ever increasing love of alcohol. The thought of creating a graph to depict quality of life and happiness over the duration of those three years is tempting, but considering the tone of this thread it would be unnecessary. Overall I ended up with a 3.4 GPA when I finished, putting me in the top ~35%. The summer of my 1L year I worked at a Public Defenders Office and clerked with a judge. The second summer there was a family emergency and I was not available to work. This left me in a rather lovely position for getting a job when I graduated. It took around 6 months to find a decent job, which seemed like an eternity. In short, do not go to law school in a school ranked in the 50's or 60's.

I hereby vow that when I pass the bar exam, I will not answer anyone's e-mails nor return their phone calls. I will also go to various law schools and solicit resumes, applying rule 1, but that's just me being a dick.

Law school/life didn't make me do anything today so I spent 9 hours straight playing call of duty and drinking two bottles of whiskey (jim beam that we put graham crackers in as an experiment and jack daniels). It was the best time ever. Law school people: this is the best case scenario that you will look forward to. Playing video games in your underwear while too drunk to sit in a chair is going to be your high point. Also I broke stuff
