What's a reasonable price to install 4 springs and a set of rear bumpstops (in Maryland, if it matters) I don't trust being under a car unless it's a lift and...I don't have access to a lift so I need a shop to install them. Was quoted at one place for $280, which seemed high.

Keep in mind that to replace springs you have to pull your strut assembly, disassembly the strut assembly, replace the springs and then replace the assembly. I could easily see how it could take a shop ~3 hours to do that. I'm sure Jamal could tell you how many hours they bill for at his shop though.

So somehow my wife managed to put my car (Saabaru) into Valet mode when she went out and started it. I tried following the directions here on NASIOC however I cannot get my car out of valet mode. Any suggestions? The chirp disable/enable works, and I can still unlock/lock my car remotely, but I cannot for the life of me get the valet mode off.quote:My exterior lights no longer flash when I lock/unlock with the remote: Edit: Pretty sure it's valet as security light on dash is blink, blink, pause and exterior lights don't flash. I'd recommend posting on a regional forum to see if anyone can lend a hand if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself. It's really not that hard of a job.

gently caress Subaru, I'm tired of fighting the Dealership to get them to fix a loving ground fault in my 2011 Sedan somewhere. It presents itself by playing a noise that sounds like a combination of my turbo junking itself and every electronic device spewing interference simultaneously. It scares the poo poo outta me, it happens at max volume if the stereo is on or off, they just tell me that it's not dangerous and can't fix it unless I come in while the symptoms are active. This is the third time I've had to bring the car in. The bluetooth doesn't work for poo poo, the original dealer I got the car from installed the short shifter package incorrectly, the door panels pop off at the slightest provocation of rain. It's just been problem after problem and SoA/My local Subaru dealers are just shining me on, I'd like to see them on a mountain road when it happens, it's loving scary as poo poo.

Try calling Subaru of Santa Cruz. They were the only ones who knew how to fix my dad's '03 WRX. It would stall out randomly. Turns out it was a bad main relay, but Diablo Subaru had the car for a few days and couldn't recreate, and handed it back like that, and it's pretty drat scary and dangerous to have a car that shuts off on the freeway! It was a pretty hairy drive down the Highway 17 to Santa Cruz though, as there are tons of blind corners and no shoulder. Fortunately luck was on my side and I made it there! They also repaired the transmission, which the other dealer stated "operates as normal." It would grind putting it into first gear at a stoplight at a complete stop. It had some mis-machined syncrhos or something. Most will recall on those tons of people online would write how they broke their gearbox, but it turned out they were racing it or something. Well, this was my dad daily driving the car to work! I think SoA pushed dealers not to fix the gearboxes because of all the amateur "racers". Moral of the story is, if I have a true problem I can't diagnose, I recommend Subaru of Santa Cruz! They may be far away, in fact an 80 mile drive from where I was living, but they solved a very frustrating problem and made my life so much easier.

I had a hell of a night tonight. Scheduled my car for drop off tonight for state inspection. I called in the afternoon expecting a week or so before I could get it in. They had a spot open tomorrow though so I took it. Got home from work, got in my car (GF and I took the Civic today), grabbed my access port and went to uninstall and flash back to stock. Sitting there in the freezing cold connecting those test connectors and such. Anyway, as soon as it was uninstalled I pulled the AP and OBDII and took them inside. Came back out to the car and tried to start it up. Cranked with power but wouldn't start. Got the typical clicking and slow cranking you get when the battery is dead. Lights and everything were okay. Nothing seemed left on. (Don't even think it's possible in this car.) Is it possible for a bad ECU flash to stop the car from starting? It sure seemed that way. So I freaked, and pulled up my iphone and checked some AP manuals on Cobb's site. Well while I was looking, my lights slowly started dimming. Sure enough it was the battery. I tried to jump it with the Civic, but no luck. So I ran out to a near by Autozone and grabbed the cheapest ($89) Duralast. Switched it in, and it fired right up. Drove it around a bit, then took it to the dealer for the inspection. None of this would have been that bad, but I was in ankle deep snow in the dark using a loving iphone 4 led as a flashlight with a 30mph 16 degree wind chill. Anyway a few things: 1) Battery looked like the original. I am 99% certain I was told it was changed when I bought it. Should I bitch or let it go? (Dealer I got it from is 2 hours away.) 2) Panasonic makes batteries? What the gently caress? 3) I am one of the many with the chirp problem. Going to ask the dealer to fix it tomorrow when I follow up call in the morning, but if they want to charge then gently caress them. How is Subaru not liable for this? So many people in that thread over 6 years. 4) I ordered a Pioneer AVH-P3300BT on sale for $350. Thanks for the feedback Warwick5s. Will post about it when I install. Sorry for the book about my whiny e/n battery change.

The chirp isn't a safety issue so no, they aren't going to do anything about it unless it's under warranty. Funny enough about your story, I have a similar one. I had a check engine light on my '02, took it to autozone to have the code pulled. I got the code and then went to leave. Car wouldn't turn over. They had to bring a battery jump pack out to get me going. Over the next few days, the battery died hardcore and I had to replace it. I always thought that was an odd coincidence. In other news, I'm gearing up to do the timing belt change on my '02. I've basically parked it since I got my '11, taking it out once a week to exercise it, but I need to get this belt done so I'm not afraid to drive it anymore. I've had the parts forever, I just got to find a good time to tear it apart. I've been waiting for a quiet week weatherwise so I can park my '11 outside and not worry about having to clear snow off of it. I'm going to do a bunch of other misc things to it while it's up on jackstands for the belt change (also changing the waterpump and thermostat while I'm in there.) 1) Gear oil change. I haven't changed it since I got my new transmission installed so it's time. I'm ordering some Subaru Extra-S tonight for it and the rear diff. 2) Fix my fog light mount. The last time I went to change the bulbs, the bolts snapped off on their place. I'm ordering new backing plates and bolts so I can bolt the fog up properly when I have the undercover off to do the belt change. I will be slathering those bolts with anti-seize this time. 3) Install two new exhaust hangers. I got rear ended awhile ago and while the bumper damage was fixed, the exhaust is hanging a bit lower than normal. I think the rubber mounts were stretched downwards. I'm hoping installing new fresh ones will fix it. 4) Stuck bleeder. Driver's side rear bleeder is stuck. The rest have speed bleeders on them. I left it alone when I went to bleed the brakes because at the tiem I didn't have another car and didn't want to risk snapping it off. Now I can tackle it a bit more agressively without worry. I still don't want to snap it off obviously, but hopefully I'll be able to get it out, put the speedbleeder in, and make sure the brake system is good and flushed. 5) If I get around to it right now, finally install my D-Specs. Yes, I've had them for months and haven't installed them yet. Every place wants like $500 to do it and the one place that said they would do it for $200 (local tuner shop) flaked and didn't show up for our appointment. So, I'm going to do it myself, I just have to find the time and motivation. After all that is done, my '02 will be nice and freshened up and I won't be scared of driving it anymore. At that point, I'll swap the wheels between the '02 and '11 (they are both stock '02 wheels right now) so that the snows will be on the '02 and the all-seasons will be on the '11 since I'm expecting the winter to start to wind down soon. bull3964 fucked around with this message at 07:03 on Feb 3, 2011 |

I've been having an issue with my '05 WRX wagon (90k miles) for a while now, maybe someone here can help me. When I release the clutch slowly without giving any/much gas, it starts to catch and the car starts to make this sound from underneath. It's hard to describe the sound, it's not a metallic scraping noise or a squeak, it's a low pitched almost grinding sound. Sort of sounds like something is loose and slamming around underneath the car. Someone told me once it could be clutch shudder, but I had a new clutch and flywheel put in at 70k by Precision Tuning in NJ and it made the noise before that too. I haven't smoked the clutch. The only way to remedy the problem is taking off quicker. Obviously I can't do this in bumper to bumper traffic. If I get stuck in traffic, the noise gets louder and more violent the more I start and stop until the point where it just sounds like the transmission is slamming into something. I've looked into getting the TiC klunk killer and a new transmission mount, but I want to see if I'm way off base before I do that. The car has a tune, uppipe, downpipe, catback and a stage 1 Exedy clutch.
