Looks pretty awesome, but I always wondered whether there is a problem with dirt damaging the fork seals on upside-down forks in off-road conditions. That said, I'd like to get a one-sided exhaust like the one on that Dakar this year. Problem is, it's one of those "want-to-have"-things I just cannot justify spending 500 Euros on. Yeah, KTM front forks with an oversized EBC rotor. Check out the build thread here: http://www.sacramentocrotchrockets.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3791 I don't think there'd be any problems with dirt tearing up the seals, basically every dirtbike out there runs inverted forks these days...

Decided to retire my old 80cc Yamaha scooter to "grocery getter" status. I do a lot of long commuting (by Taiwan standards) so I decided to upgrade to motorcycle. Anyways figured you guys might get a kick out of seeing the new bike in all its Chinese/Taiwanese glory: Its a 04' Kymco KTR 4V 150cc, 5 sp, front disc & rear drum brakes Its my first motorcycle so its still taking some getting used too, but its definitely a kick in the pants to ride around on. Gearing is a little weird as the transmission starts topping out around 90kph even though its clear it could go much faster. Which is ok though, as 99% of the time you don't want to go over 80kph around here anyway (anything under 500cc isn't allowed on the freeway). Also its completely unforgiving going over potholes. Which really sucks as the roads in Taiwan are covered in sudden dips/potholes. Aside from those things its pretty much "yay, motorcycle!"

Cool! How is it unforgiving? Suspension too soft or too hard? I'm sure it's tunable in some way.
# ? Feb 11, 2011 16:37 |
Suspension is too hard. Though I found last night if I sit farther back its not so bad... so I guess maybe I was sitting too far forward on it.
# ? Feb 12, 2011 03:11 |
If you're not uncomfortable sitting like that you're fine. If you are, at least we know where to begin. Granted your country has some infrastructural problems but your bike is generic enough that the CA hive mind should be able to find the proper replacements for your - rear dual suspension included.
# ? Feb 12, 2011 03:22 |
Its not too uncomfortable actually. I guess I'm just used too sitting in a more forward position from all the scooter riding. Bad times though as I have to take it back to the shop today. They replaced the battery yesterday after some electrical issues, but as I figured its probably a alternator/regulator issue as the battery is dead already
